Originally by: Roxanna Kell Well, i didn't know who to vote to so i just picked the first German on the list. Maybe because i always thought of Germans as hardcore pvpers.
And for some reason I always see germans as hardcore industrialists with claws..

I voted for 2 different candidates, one based on a cool slogan, Hardin "Not an idiot, Knows his ****." and the other was based on the portrait of the hot chick Ankhesentsomething...

Originally by: Digital Solaris Edited by: Digital Solaris on 10/05/2008 02:29:35 I choose to abstain, and I think I am not alone in doing so.
One of my many reasons doing so is that this "council" concept is a poor attempt of a PR coup by CCP, by legislating a so-called democratic election on number of people that candidates for a seat on this council, but it will be a council that is not a deciding body, with no real power on its own.
Personally, I'm not buying the 'CSM is a PR stunt to paper over the c racks from the dev cheating scandal' thing - if that single incident was going to have any significant effect on new people coming to Eve I think we would have seen subscriber numbers dropping by now. In fact I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to suggest that CCP dealt with the issue, learnt from it, brought in systems to reduce the chance of something similar happenning again, and then (not needing any more PR than was used at the time) moved on. If that's the case, it then looks like much of the vocal (and pre-emptive, IMO) resistance to the CSM is just people using it as a convenient excuse to continue to feel hard done by and cheated. The name of the game is 'Look What They're Doing To Us Now' and is much in evidence on web forums everywhere, not just on Eve-O.
As I understood it - by reading the information about it - the CSM was never intended to be a deciding body, and just right too. I'm old fashioned enough to think that the deciding about Eve ought to be done by the people with experience in designing and maintaining online games - you know, the people CCP hire to do a job based on their ability, knowledge and skills. Not to knock the same qualities in the CSM candidates (or any of the rest of us for that matter) but none of us could ever claim to have a complete and rounded view of Eve because we're not there working on it, putting time and effort into developing it every day - we just play it. That gives us, as players, different insights into the game and how it works, or could work - insights that could valuably inform the direction the decision makers choose but shouldn't be allowed to exclusivley direct them.
I choose to see the CSM as more like a union - accountable to its members (the player base) and tasked with representing us. I don't want my union in real life running the country and similarly I don't want the CSM running Eve. What I expect, though, is that the successful candidates put in effort on our behalf to solicit and represent our ideas and wishes in an intelligent way, providing an avenue for our legitimate concerns and useful ideas to be discussed with CCP and freeing the devs up to concentrate on developing the game without having to spend time sorting the wheat from the chaff on the forums and justifying every slightest change to our biased nit-picking.
So I chose who I wanted to vote for the old fashioned way too - by reading what all the candidates had to say and choosing the one who seemed, to me, most likely and able to listen to what they player community is saying, to present that fairly within the council, to discuss it reasonably with CCP, and to feedback again to us what came of it.
I'm sorry for my unashamedly positive outlook on this new venture but, while I choose to be deeply cynical about many things in life, the CSM isn't one of them. I'd rather take a chance and support it to see what good comes of it than nay say before it's even had the opportunity to prove itself. The voting process should be like or any dating site questionnaire:
You're presented a series of questions, rating 1-10 the importance of certain topics. Based on the way you answered these questions, 2-3 of the candidates that most closely resemble your views is offered, with a short blurb written by each. Read through the blurb, and make your final decision. //// ---------=== []= ---------=== \\\\ Rifter(RedBad)

I didn't have an issue voting myself. let's just hope that these people that get elected take their new roles seriously and are not just doing it to go to Iceland.

Hey, she must have done something right, to deserve half of your worldly possessions and a portion of all your future income.
