Referring to this news post
Damnit. It might be, if they wouldn't outsource nearly every seriously fighting matar-loyal pod-pilot around. Even after graduating from RMS with top marks, you have to mercenary your way around. I wouldn't loose more ships if they were issued.

Not at all. The number of defectors from that inefficient organisation rises every day. How can you put your trust in an organisation of that size that cannot even quell adolescent unrest, nor secure a simple station?

Rather have trouble with adolescent unrest that an army of enslaved and drafted pilots. When all comes to all, who would you rather have fighting for you, a man or woman that was forced to, or one that wants to ?

Trust the Fleet? To protect a station? You're joking.
Of course I do.
Magnitudes less than a default station battalion keep you occupied in the Bleaks. |

I might suggest that there are organizations like the 17th Tactical Wing that are offering career opportunities for pilots wishing to fly in support of the Republic Fleet.
The new CNO will undoubtedly be addressing precisely the issue you raise more directly, however.

If I didn't know better, I would have naturally assumed you were referring to the 7th Fleet...

Well, I know better: He's referring to the Amarr Empire as a whole. |

The obvious problem is one of cost. A pod pilot's requirement are far greater in most cases than the equivalent crew requirements.
Not to mention ego problems. Most podders fresh out the academy have more ego than captains with 30 years under their belts.

Know that I wholeheartedly sympathise with your task, for it it mine, too. The methods, though, taught to me by my beloved teacher, differ: He taught me to conquer the minds, not the bodies, of my enemies: For in the long run that is the only way to live in physical peace with other, practically immortal, capsuleers.
"Methods" might well be the wrong word, though: It seems more to be "priorities". Death does not matter to us who are privileged by, and thus indebted to, society; Attachment to fleeting material "values" cast aside.

I hope so, or I will remind him that he owes me 200m isk. He's a really bad poker player, especially when drunk. That's to be conceived as a virtue, though: he is more than sober while on duty, and knows when it's safe to loose. OTOH, I'm basically completely based in Molden Heath. |

The Republic Fleet is just as capable as any other in carrying out its assigned tasks. I reference the Amarrian 7th Fleet in the Bleak Lands, the problems with supercapital security in the Federal Navy, and the unrest in the State.
The primary problem, I think, is the funneling of resources to the pod pilot program. There are twelve schools that participate, graduating ever larger numbers of pilots. This must be paid for out of local resources. There are the cloning facilities and PEND premiums. Obviously, we have all figured out that PEND must be subsidized by someone-- probably, I would guess, CONCORD, whose budget comes from member entities. Development of pod ship equivalents of standard vessels as well as pod-only members must have horrific overhead, and we all know that we pilots buy the ships we insure and blow up from other pilots. With shuttle production ceasing, the only ships not built by us for us are the rookie ships, courtesy the subsidized PEND.
This dedication of public resources to an increasing number of pilots has to be having some sort of impact on governmental budgets, and the readiness of the various military forces has suffered from it. |

The Republic Fleet is by far the weakest of the major empires.
After decades of war the Republic Fleet with the support of the Gallente Federation was unable to gain any ground against the Mandate Fleet without the aid of the Amarr Empire. All the tribes have less military might than the Nefanter Tribe alone.
The Republic Fleet has less than a quarter of the ships that the Amarr Empire has. This does not include the Kingdom or the Mandate. As if that wasnĘt bad enough, the Republic Fleet is a frigate heavy fleet.
In shortą the fleet needs the help and will be grateful to receive the help of an experienced pod pilot.

I could deny this. It's just not worth the effort: It's denied by reality. |

Id say. Ive run into a few stolen ones while taking out Pirates from the Angel groups, and they pack a punch. Ultimately, fights come down to a few factors; fleet size, tactical location, and the skill of the pilots. Taking all that into account, I think the Empire nations are all evenly matched, one way or the other. I just hope we dont ever have reason to find out the hard way, for everyones sakes...
