Ryuu Katsu I agree with your sentiments about the "one-sided board game" arguement on this issue. However, A DevBlog released not too long ago discussed this matter and stated CCP is most-likely looking into a solution to this problem.
At 41:42 in Live Dev Blog 11, one of the GM's (Zulupark) begins discussing it naming one possible solution as giving probing ships (specific in their role using probes) the ability to scan out ships that aren't meant to fit cloaks (I'm assuming this means everything except CovOps and stealth bombers.) This way it would "still be viable for a non-cloaking specific ship to use one without being able to 'perm-cloak' in hostile systems without risk."
Another solution he proposes is adding a fuel cost to non-CovOps cloaking devices, making it impossible to stay cloaked indefinitely in anything but a CovOps. Shortly after this though he mentions the Devs noticing more and more disadvantages to this option, so they're unsure as to what the specific solution might be at this point.
Needless to say, they're aware of the problem and it's on their "to-do" list (although what its priority is I'm unsure of.) eve-online.com |

You do know that two recon alts<any of curses/pilgrims/arazus> can literally kick the **** out of a mining gang / ratter raven in a matter of seconds right?
I don't think the problem can be solved by ship types - rather they must be solved in terms of length of cloaking time. If this change goes through as mentioned, that will only remove the macro ravens - not the original problem. |

I wouldn't know if you're right or not Ambini, but I don't think the GM thought the problem was how quickly ships could utilize cloaking to gank ships (as that's what they should do) but being able to perma-cloak without worries in the middle of a hostile system (which shouldn't be a viable option in a game like Eve.) CCP, at least from my point of view, wants to emphasize that at no point in the game (unless docked) should it be a wise option to afk without a threat (especially in lowsec/0.0/hostile space.) |
