You're simply no good if you don't understand: when you make your character a stand out, you don't put it above or even apart from the more so-called "mundane" characters. You have your role to play amongst them; as the "token exception to the rule".
Standing in a gaggle of such exceptions with your noses all in the air, acting like you've found the holy grail of RP and rendered all other characters illegitimate doesn't make you a cool kid; it makes you an RP failure who wouldn't know a detailed, nuanced character if one sidled up, pulled down your pantaloons and bit off your you-know-what.
... That's all
Would you believe I had this very conversation with two friends yesterday... that any the appropriate use of polydimensional 'idea space' with which to define acceptable deviance from the normal point beyond which point one is entirely different from the intended definition...
At which point does an Amarr deviate to the point that he or she is no longer Amarr?

I'm awake again! By the gods, I'm lazy. *yaaawn*
A quick response to Arderich, just for now.
Of course I expect a great deal of IC resistance, but the problem I outlined in my original post is getting entertained as a legitimate roleplay partner at all. It started to feel to me like people simply didn't want to hear it if you were playing scorch and brimstone; like mentioning fealty to the old ways at all was Amarr RP scene suicide.
Having said that, I've had a few convos in game off the back of this discussion that have really made things look better, as well as a lot of encouragement from practically everyone who's posted here.
Thanks again everyone.

I have no doubt that PIE will make a 180¦ turn from Pax Amarria supporters to those who will organize burning this heretical book should a new Emperor say so.
One thing will always be highest priority for PIE: loyality towards the (current) Emperor is paramount, even if you personally disagree with his policies. From this point of view PIE's roleplay is consistent and most excellent if you know their guidelines, their priorities.
I was just trying to point out why hardline amarr roleplay is difficult like a walk on thin ice. I assume PIE has chosen their policy for the reason to avoid such problems, "because no good Amarrian would go against the will of the Emperor". If you currently take a clear position in the right wing without caring that the current official Amarr policies are pretty liberal (although this is slowly changing to the 'better') then you will have a hard time. Today you will still have a hard time if you demand burning the Pax. |

The First rule of Roleplaying: the standard outline of any character/race/profession/whatever given in the game books will always be the rarest type of character to find, because every single roleplayer thinks they're special and original by playing a character that's different... just like the other 23,574 identical "different" characters beside them.
The Second Rule of Roleplaying: no matter how many great gamers you encounter, some A***holes will always manage to wreck it for you.
The Third Rule of Roleplaying: No matter what genre, cliques will exist. You will want to stab them in the face with a pickaxe. The clique will contain at least one sample from Rule 2.
