I actually don't mind the EM/Explosion reduction to shield/armor but why did they mess up the paladin graphics out of the clear blue?????
I remember buying a paladin for how cool it looked with premium graphics turned on. after ownership i later realized why everyone called it pink cuase on on my my pc's here with non premium turned on the classic graphics make it look pink/salmon colored. However, on premium it looked cool dark blood red (like in my sigs)
Anyway, as to my surprise today I log in after this patch to see my paladin now had the graphics changed (for premium graphics) the gold and red were switched inverted. The ship still looks all pink in classic mode. I have to assume they made this change to make the color match up better with the overall color of other amarr ships (gold colored mainly)
All I know is the gold color they used looks more like brownish/yellow then gold. It looks like old rusted/faded brass and barely shiny (non reflective). If the goal was to make paladin ugly for both premium and classic clients.. ccp has succeeded.
If you want to keep this new gold theme please have your texture artist spend more then 3 minutes in photoshop playing with the color layer. At least make the gold look like gold and not a junkyard scrap metal.
Any other Paladin owners out there (with premium graphics turned on) happy with this change?

I respect them wanting to keep color themes for the races.. but there needs to be more variation or things will be overly boring. I think that red with gold accents on paladin looked very "regal". It was a nice change from most of the ships I been flyin for "x" amount of years in EVE .... a game where even colors like "all black" even got me excited cause they were unique! lol
I know its just t2 version of apoc... but they made it look uglier the apoc now (which just is unbelievable to me).

yeah, its in the patch notes. They did it for consistency for that manufacturers ships (carthum, iirc?)
if it looks better now or prior, is subjective. You would think they would have bigger fish to fry than color changes.

Ya not sure why they were stressing out over color.. and if it is something thats a priority to them. I just wish they took more time making it look better.
As far as "subjective" you be the judge....I just took a screenshot.
Take a look at this image http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9923/paladinrepaintqd0.jpg
Thats the new repaint.. the previous version is in my signature. Ugly right? It doesn't even look gold ...looks like 2000 year old brass right? If they flipped the reflection map off those red colors on top and made the gold on sides reflective and brighter.. maybe it would be cooler. Even if they just added more red then a few blocks on top. To me.. they killed the looks completely.

The original color scheme looked good. Now the crimson patches on the ship look out of place. Like they took a page out of the Minmatar play book and started using scrap metal to patch up the ship. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

The Asoution looks better now then it did before it was released - all that looked like a carpet. The Paladin looks better now too imo, the red is there to highlight the ship, not define it - but - I realise this is an aesthetic preference . . .
I prefer it changed. ---- Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

This color switch probably wouldn't be so bad if they just stuck with the gold theme on Amarr ships instead of this brass / brown look that they have now in the premium client. Amarr ships have always looked stately and regal imo and this brown does them no justice unfortunately (from an aesthetic point of view)...Look at the T1 ships for instance, premium makes them look like they are from operation desert storm =P

Well that leaves me without a reason to get one, I *was* buying one due to the looks, but the regular apoc is sexier than that crap. ------ [Quha]El-Diablito - Quality newbie bashing anno 1998 - Be afraid, for I have no real life what so ever |

yea, I share your pain, OP Before patch, Paladin was shining beacon of awesomeness. Now its just like regular Apoc from classic with few red stripes. I can understand that Carthum guys want consistency in their design but even they should know that brown does not equal to gold. I still ride it, and still think its a great ship and I guess I will finally get used to the new colour... but right now I'ma sad panda. So CCP design guys? It was not a good decision.

Before the patch, the Paladin looked distinctive. The most powerful non-capital ship in the fleet with the looks to make it stand out from the crowd. The blood red hull was a statement, it made the Paladin special and for a lot of us it was definitely one of the reasons to own and fly one.
And let's be reasonable, wouldn't it be good business practice for Carthum Conglomerate to make their "flagship luxury model" look different and most of all more extravagant than their mid-range and entry-level ships???
Carthum, give us back the 2007 paint scheme! We paid good money for it!
(Imagine you buying a beautiful pearl red Lexus, only to find it completely sprayed pink the next morning with a note stuck to the windshield wiper saying: "We thought you would like it better in this colour, and since you spent so much money on the car already, we decided to do it for free as a service! Surprise! Yours sincerely, Friendly Neighbourhood Lexus Dealer")

My beautiful ship..
Wouldn't be so bad if they'd made the gold nice and reflective. The brown looks terrible.

I am very glad to see I am not alone in my opinion. Please CCP address this texture issue on the paladin. I am honestly in favor whatever design choices you have in mind I just request you take more then a few minutes of thought when considering how it "should" look.
I am a artist myself and went to art school for a degree. I am sure you texture/3d artists are in the same boat as me.. and we all know as part of our trade if you rush a design (even something as simple as a repaint of an existing 3d texture) the end result will look poor. I realize there are a lot of deadlines and perhaps this was a quick thought they got rushed.
Please just don't turn your back and sweep it under the rug. Its a 1 billion dollar t2 battleship.. have some pride in your artistry and respect for those who have grown to have pride in owning the paladin. Like many said here.. the reason to own it (aside from its ability) was how great it looked.

The new paladin skin has put it in line with other Carthum Conglomerate's ships: Crusader, Retribution, Pilgrim, Absolution. All of these are golden with red patches.
p.s. i like the new paladin skin

The old Paladin and Absolution looked a hell of a lot better...
Give us back the ships we fell in love with!
Or something similar. The current Paladin just looks like a dusty old apoc. It's completely meh. I have no idea why Carthum would push to make their ships look as boring as possible.
