... as long as I do not log off...
Well, I ran a little mission in low sec in a neighbouring system to my agents location. After finishing I jumped back and arriving at the other side of the gate the system wasn't so quiet and empty anymore as it was when I started.
I scrolled down the list of 44 red flashing ships in my overview, marked the station icon and clicked on "dock".
Next steps within around 3 seconds: 1) I was scrambled 2) Lag exploded 3) I tried to mark one of the red line in the overview and to click on "lock" (without success) 4) My mail icon was blinking 5) Shield, Armor, Hull bars were changing from 0% red to 100% red instantaneously
The funny firework continued, nothing happened with me... so I had time to read the mail:
"2008.03.08 15:37 We from the friendly insurance company Pend Insurance regret the recent loss of your spacecraft. According to the agreement between Pend Insurance and SCC, we hereby grant you a brand new Reaper, fully fitted. Also included is a gratuity gift of Tritanium."
Obviously some misguided mail from a bad-organized insurance company. I clicked a little bit on my armor repairer, my afterburner, locked the gate, activated weapons, disabled an armor hardener, wrote in local, lalala...
15:39, 2 minutes later
tralala...
15:44, 7 minutes later
holala...
15:54, 17 minutes later
OK, it was getting boring because the 44 campers seemed to have no chance against my invincibility! So I logged off and...
15:57, ...logged on again
Now I have to talk some serious words with the insurance company ... and with CONCORD because I'm still waiting for a loss mail.
BTW: Can I sell kill rights? Suddenly I have 20 of them expiring in one month at 15:36...

Yes, I know, something like that... So this is a whining thread about lag and the possibility of gate camps the server can't handle obviously. Gate camps with a large number of campers should be classified as exploit because they make use of technical issues for their own benefit.

We had this happen last night also, threw remote armor+shield reps on a raptor, had 4 interceptors wailing away on it for about 5 minutes before checking corp chat. The raptor pilot was complaining how he was killed like instantly, yet we were all fighting over the raptor he had been flying.

Getting desynched after death is fairly common. Happened to me when MC DD'd half our fleet. I saw all these nice red bars replace my white ones, and that was that. Then I relogged, got in a new ship, and moved on with my eve life. 's no big. ---

You know what my question is? Why the **** are there 44 gate campers. Unless they were expecting some kind of massive fleet coming in, 44 gate campers doing it for fun is almost as stupid as 40 people on a Friday night running MC on WoW. Wait, it's even more stupid because at least you move around in MC.

I think, it was a bored group moving slowly around from gate to gate because there wasn't a big red spot growing on the map, all greedy for targets to place a shot somewhere in the tiny gaps between the huge lag they were causing.

If you refer to an ALT-scout than no. Honestly, I rather die to a gatecamp instead of using lame meta gaming stuff like that.
You can be my scout anytime tho.

Actually, I noticed this glitch long ago. I call it "The smartbomb effect."
If your ship gets destroyed AND you get podded by the smartbomb at the same instant, this is what happens.
The only way out is to reboot the client, landing in a station as expected.
Could you check your kill mail for the final blow (or to see if there's a smartbomb involved in general) to confirm this?

I didn't receive any kill/loss mail. So I don't know who killed me with which ship and which weapon in the end. I only know there were at least 20 people involved because I can wallpaper my pod with the kill rights I got for all of them.

Oh, had that happen to me a couple of times also, no killmail, I guess it can't be confirmed whether or not it's the same bug then..
My advice, to avoid camps, warp to 100km from gates when traveling through lowsec to check for camps, if all is clear, move 50km away from the gate and you can warp to 0 again if you've got a fast ship, if not, warp away and warp back to 0.
That bug is very annoying though, If you get killed many times per hour (sometimes per minute), you'll know what I'm talking about

The camp was on the other side of the gate. The system was quiet and almost empty when I left it to run the mission in the neighbouring system. 10 Minutes later I warped back and didn't expect that a camp appeared within this time. Unlucky situation. I had better tried to negotiate and offer a ransom than to hope for an escape from a group of 44 killers with a slowly aligning battlecruiser.

THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! I AM LISTED AS A VICTIM ON A SO CALLED KILLBOARD!!! The value of my ship and the destroyed and lost items is estimated AND MY DEATH IS EVALUATED BY KILL-POINTS!!!!
Also there is a ranking of the murderers counting the kill-points of each of them! Now I understand why 44 weekend-pirates were shooting like insane at the same time against me: They were not only working against me, they are also all competing against each other for more kill-points and a better place in that ranking.
I need to say this killboard is a bad, immoral and ridiculous instrument and must be removed because it favours the quantity of killing over the quality which would mean having a hard time fighting against me before I am dead.
Also the kill mail could be looked in at the killboard! Why the hell do they receive a kill mail while I don't get anything from CONCORD???

A killboard doesn't influence the quantity of killing. These are people having 'fun' together by killing unsuspecting passersby. They would have killed you en masse with or without a killboard.
Did you check the combat log by the way? You don't receive an eve mail anymore.

I'd reckon that each person on that killmail received very, very few points for killing you. Quality > quantity when it comes to kb points.

Check your combat log. Concord has nothing to do with it anymore.

Killmail harvesting, no threat to any of them yet they all get to appear on the much coveted killmail, tried and tested Triumvirate. practise.

I get this all the time when I die... I can even continue chatting. Just keep seeing my ship flying around fully red as if nothing happened. Because I can't warp my pod I lose my implants because of this, and CCP doesn't reimburse, I tried.

Sorry, you are right in the sense that it encourages 'kill harvesting'. It doesn't influence the size of gatecamps though.

OK, now I get it. Found the thing, also the relevant log file on my hard disk.
The interesting thing is that my Hurricane was destroyed after 26 seconds (seen in the log file, during the fight I noticed nothing else than a terrible bucking and almost completely frozen screen). But until pod destruction there were a time span of 94 seconds, no clue what happened during this time. Maybe they weren't able to lock my pod in the huge lag they were causing. If I had had the autopilot active...

The autopilot is client side. If your client had desync'ed or lagged out, then your autopilot would not have worked either.
