I've searched the forums and looked in the game's options but couldn't really find an answer to my question.
Is it possible to bind a keyboard shortcut to actions such as "Orbit around target" or "Keep distance from target" or even "Set distance to keep from target"?

No, it's not possible. The only things you can bind to keyboard are the commands listed in the Shortcuts tab of the control panel (hit ESC to get it). Those commands that are already bound appear on the left, and those that aren't bound appear on the right. And you can only use combinations of keys that have Ctrl, Shift, or Alt in them, too.
Old, somewhat crappy interface. It's against the EULA to modify it, so no plugins or mods like in WoW either.

There are many keyboard options as u will see if u hit escape and then go into keyboard shortcuts I think it's called (can't check as my game computer is off getting upgraded)..There are many that already exist and many u can simply make (but u can't use key sequences that ccp already has in use for something)... I created a hot key sequence for "Engage Target" which is Alt A to use with my drones...
So u don't have to use Point/Click...So when u go to get out of the game using escape key find the Shortcuts button and hit it and u will see what's possible.

Totally crappy interface. Especially so when you're someone who prefers the speed of a keystroke to issue commands and avoids the slow, mind-numbing mouse (move and) click.
The Devs should know better!

Been telling them for 4 years.
Truth be told, there are some things you couldn't do with just the keyboard, even if you wanted to. Picking a direction to fly towards, for example. But yeah, those particular commands you were looking for in the original post are NOT available for shortcuts, though some other, useful ones, are.
Maybe they'll change the interface one day. "Soon", I believe is the saying.

I have not seen a shortcut for "make bookmark" either. Maybe I missed it, but I find it horribly cumbersome to have to open people&places, click make bookmark and confirm. T o o m a n y c l i c k s. Specially when I warp into a mission spot and get instant aggro from a group of rats and want to make a bookmark of the location. -- .signature not found. Core dumped. |

We need hotkeys for drone groups, just like our subfleet hot keys from Homeworld. Would make life so much easier.

I have a theory that CCP has not overhauled the input system due to the fact that it would make things easier for the macro-farmers to do their thing, which would take an already bad situation and make it even worse.
I personally support the suggestions to add more keyboard shortcuts, as I prefer to use the keyboard as it is faster. But alas, the biggest thing I have seen hit the interface since I started playing has been when they changed the overview so you could move and resize the various sections seperately. -=^=-

That are really needed. The gang/fleet/broadcast changes made the whole overview stack HUGE before they could be split apart.
Pretty soon we won't be able to see our ships through the interface ---- EVE-Central.com - Your EVE economic and corporate site, featuring the inter-region market browser |

Just go get a G-15 keyboard and mouse. Problem solved.
