Is there a limit to the number of items or volume limit and if so where can I find it while docked?

There does seem to be a limit to the number of stacks of items you can have in a hangar - recently I hit this and got a message along the lines of "you cannot move the item there are there are just too many items in that location already". However, this was from dumping cargohold after cargohold of mission loot+salvage in the hangar without stacking it, for somewhere in the region of 30 level 4 missions. Restacking it, predictably, solved the problem.
As for what number this was - I didn't feel masochistic enough to count. If I had to guess... possibly somewhere in the region of 1000-2000 item stacks? In any event, it's not likely to actually be a limiting factor in anything, especially since you can use station containers to avoid this limit (and this would be a good idea with a large number of items anyway).
I haven't seen any references to such a limit in the past so I'm not sure where to look if you actually needed a definitive answer.

I believe there is limit of 1000 items in any single "container".
You can avoid this in your hangar by using containers. For example you can have 1000 items in the main level including 5 containers with 1000 items each.
This limit shouldn't really be issue if you use the right click -> stack all.
There is no volume limit in hangar. Tho containers are limited volume. (Station containers are rather huge, but you can't move them nor repackage them for long periods)

You may have at maximum 1000 item stacks in any given container.
There is no Volume limit on your NPC hangar. The 'cans' have volume limits, ranging from pretty small (Small Standard Can, 120m3) to big (General Freight Container, 120,000 m3) downright huge (100,000,000m3, Station Vault).
For personal hangars, I recommend the General Freight Container. You lose the security features of the Station Cans, but who's going to steal it? It's your personal hangar. Just make sure not to accidentally trash them (Station Cans won't let you do that for 3 weeks after last access, GFCs have no such compunctions). -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft.
