A corp-mate just posted a corp mail pointing out the existence of the Drone Settings configuration window, and suggested that one could set the drones to use "focus fire".
I've done that.
But one can also select either "passive" or "agressive" drones, with "passive" as the default.
What does that choice mean?
My drones have always been set on passive, but in spite of this they do attack the enemy, when I fly missions, without me needing to direct them.

Edited by: Folken Darkstar on 21/02/2008 13:04:53 Passive means you have to give a drone an attack order to make it take action. Otherwise after they blow up their target they just kind of wait around or slowly move back towards your ship until you give them an order. Aggressive means they actively look for targets when their current one is killed. Focus fire and agressive means they will all attack together and continue to kill until there are no more targets.

Incorrect! My drones have been set to "passive" for months, and in spite of this they do attack hostile NPCs on their own.
That's why I'm asking. -- Salpad |

Edited by: Darkonian on 21/02/2008 15:04:36 I think that when you launch them in passive mode, they just stay around you until you active an offensive module on a target or you give them an attack order. After that, they will shoot at anything currently shooting at you. In agressive mode, as soon as you launch them, they shoot any hostile around you , whether they are shooting at you or not.

That sounds a lot more plausible.

The feature is bugged, but it works exactly like he said. Also, you can have them set to aggressive and not realize it because the circle always appears around the "Passive" button even though "Aggressive" is selected.
To make sure they are passive during any particular session you need to open up the options and click the passive button, everytime. Leaving it on whatever setting it was on last time you logged on or whatever isn't reliable.
Also, firing on a target while any drone is "Idle" (even during the 1-2 seconds between targets) will cause them to attack your target in aggressive (or neutral) mode instead of choosing their own so it can make the focus fire option seem broken.

Set my drones to passive/Focus fire the first time I found this feature. Haven't had any problems since, no sudden aggressiveness, or anything. My settings apparently held
Anyway, yes, you actually need to click passive for them to be passive. And I prefer it that way, ever since a drone got in it's mind to go after Kruul while I was still dealing with 3/4th's of the initial spawn...

This setting is selected by clicking the triangle next to "Drones (x out of x in space)".

I believe that drones will auto agress targets that lock you as well when you have them on aggressive setting. Therefore during empire wars etc when you launch drones, sometimes neutrals will attempt to draw aggression by targeting you. If you have your drones set to aggressive they will auto agress and you will get concorded. While I dont have a link or techy data to back up this statement I do have a lossmail Peace WithinSo if the theory of relativity is true, shouldn't i arrive at my destination before i warped in the first place? Neon GhostYou do, but this is compensated for by lag |
