We've been called a gimmick, pointless, unoriginal and a short lived novelty.
We may be all of those things, but for 400 pilots over the last 4 weeks Red Versus Blue has become something a little different in the Eve universe.
When we started the project, Tron and I hoped it would grow to this level, I certainly expected a positive response from the members, neither of us expected it to grow so quickly though.
I'm proud of what we seem to be acheiving, for those who don't know what this is about, we created our own factional warfare, two sides, permanently war decced to each other that anyone can join or leave at any time and fight. We created a story behind the breakup of Purple Alliance, resulting in the two warring factions, red and blue being formed.
We don't have rules or restrictions, it's normal Eve warfware with the normal Eve mechanics, there is no tournament or Arena PvP.
As we near the end of our first month almost 2000 ships have been killed, from noobships to command ships to faction battleships, there's a little bit of everything. The warfare is open to pilots of all ranges, 800k sp noob accounts happily fly alongside 55 mill vets in their pimped HAC's and toys, we balance the sides to keep them even as best we can, currently in red versus blue fighting both corps hover around 50% efficiency, just what we want.
But this isn't a recruitment post, or a general post about what we do, we already have those.
This is notice that we're about to move RvB up a notch, sometime in the next week or so both Red and Blue will be forming their own alliances (names to be decided), our war is growing and both sides will be recruiting corps to their cause. Like the corps themselves recruitment will be open for people to join/leave as they please, corps can join alliance fleets or operate independantly, that's their choice. Corps will need to have a short chat with us, if there is no big reason for them to be red or blue we'll assign them the side in which they're needed most, again, balance is important to the success of the project. Any donations to this end would be much appreciated.
For those looking to roleplay in their conflicts we welcome it, I have no experience in roleplay but we're happy for people to expand on and alter our story and see how it develops.
Many people have wanted factional warfare for a long time, how CCP are to implement it we don't know, as it is, we've started it anyway, we just made our own factions.
Choose your side.

This has occurred before.
The moment your hisec alliance 'thingy' starts enticing players away from the Headling Grabbing 0.0 wars, you're ******.
They don't win awards from unheard of web magazines for "The most fun highsec war". They win it for giving a community the illusion of having something worth fighting for.
You're going to be victims of your own success. Like Privateers were. And I'll probably end up missing this R'n'B bandwagon like I missed out on the Privateers glory days. -- Anything I said above is subject to the standard provision: Alts subvert it, and make it untrustworthy. |

It will obviously end at some point, we're aware of that, why it ends is irrelevant, we're just going to ride the wave while we can.

The community response to the idea which, as has been pointed out time and time over to us is not a new one, has been overwhelming. The shear number of pilots we now have with us shows how much fun it has been.
Plave and I have plans for the project which will ensure that it won't just disappear, and I don't see how it could be nerfed in the way Privateers were, as all participants have chosen to be there.
Factional warfare is on the horizon from CCP, but join in now and fight today!

You guys are great. I knew the alliance thing would happen when I first heard of the RvB idea. I didn't think it would happen so soon though.
Good luck.

Cool thing you got going guys.
Mind if I ask how many people total are on both sides now? Is one side "evil" and the other "good"? Any plans to include any more sides/alliances? Any rules, or can someone join and go do what they want when they want however they want?
And personally I dont see CCP nerfing you guys. Everyone there is there by choice so theres no real need.
hey, hey CCP, OMG something you didnt think of that made the game better,,,,,, quick go kill it so you can keep EVE an obscure inconsequential piece of $hit title in the gaming world,,,,,,

I may be wrong here, but I think reds are the evil ones, while the blues are the good guys. From another point of perspective, you could see the reds as rebels and blues as traditionalists. As for rules, there aren't any, just try to have fun.

I agree with that. It's a very different situation than Privateers were, since everyone on both sides has joined the war willingly, there are no people being negatively affected by it. (besides the random pilots stealing loot and getting killed for it)

Edited by: Plave Okice on 12/02/2008 00:20:08 Hey Syrup,
We're about 450 people I think now, split evenly.
Red are the revolutionaries, Blue the former rulers, I've not done much with the story since our launch but I'm hoping there are people more versed in such things who can expand it as we progress. Both sides are pretty evil, there isn't really any good.
More sides are an option, the aim really is to concentrate on growth of the two at the moment, who knows if a third colour may splinter at a later date.
Anyone can join and do what they like, obviously ops are better when organised but guys can join and roam solo or in their own small gangs if they like, very occasionally when we have 3rd party decs (we've had decs from 7 or 8 corps and alliances so far) we actually call a purple op and go fight them together.
Not surprisingly we've many ex privateer alts, other way round for me, this is my main and my privateer account was an alt.

Hopefully I'll be back playing in a few months and if so I really want to look you guys up and join. Good luck with all you do and I hope to be surprised when I am back at how awesomely successful is has become!

My only real question is this, if corps are to join these alliances you intend to make, is fighting limited to a certain region or do blues and reds slaughter each other throughout the entire galaxy?

People fly what they can afford to lose, or what they feel comfortable in. Yeah there's a lot of T1 frigates being flown. T1 frigates are very cheap, they're the ship of choice for newly created alts, and an organised swarm of them can take down ships much more expensive than themselves.
Of course the downside to them is that they die fast, so you see a lot of them on killboards :p

So what? 40% of the kills on your board couldn't even shoot back.
Everyone is in it for the fight, if we see enemies flying round in Frigs and we're in a CS, we'll get in a Frig ourselves to make sure we get a fight, the only reason we have a killboatrd is to show activity for recuritment purposes, the stats are irrelevant, we like to fight and blow **** up, that's all we do, lots.
And yes we do need more gang leaders, we have good, experienced FC's but not enough and not in all timezeones, anyone is welcome though, more killers, more targets. Also we have our first two corps lined up as members.

We have a main area we fight in, but thats just to make it easy to get fights, people can go wherever they want.

There's lots of them to be had, we have plenty of pilots out looking, we could always do with more, blue especially need more people experienced in leading small > medium gangs.
