Don't do missions in low sec. It's that simple.

Move to highsec(0.5+) for missions. Missioning in lowsec is like walking through harlem with with a $1000 bill on your forehead. ---

At least don't do them with a drone boat, when you're in deadspace your ship is quite hard to probe out but your drones are still easy to find.

It's perfectly possible to run missions safely in low-sec. Just not all low-sec. You have to invest a lot more time in forward planning than a high-sec mission runner.
People find you by using probes. A skilled player with a dedicated probing ship and the right skills trained can find you in very little time. Especially if you're using drones, as they're yet another thing to scan for. As a Dominix pilot, this puts you at a disadvantage.
There's lots of ways to make yourself safer. First of all, choose your system well. Don't run missions on a main highway from high-sec to 0.0. Choose a backwater somewhere. Hang around in the system for a few days and get the measure of the locals. Some low-sec systems have enthusiastic anti-pirate residents. Others are regularly plagued by roaming gangs of pirates. Pay attention to the local channel, especially the security status of the people in it.
Secondly, when you're running missions, don't make yourself a sitting duck. If a pirate scans you out and you're in a deadspace mission, he'll warp to the acceleration gate at the start of the mission. Then he'll warp into the mission itself. If you're still sitting at the warp-in point for the mission, you're dead meat. Move away from that point. Align with a planet or safe spot. Be ready to escape.
Finally (for now), don't fly things you can't afford to lose. That means no mission running in CNRs in low-sec unless you're very sure of your abilities.

Check the starmap, find some lowsec systems without too much activity.
If you're in Caldari space, that could be why (As Caldari space is overpopulated).
Consider using a ship with fewer drones, as drones are really easy to probe down.
Lastly, go to your directional scanner, uncheck USE OVERVIEW SETTINGS, set it to max range, 360 degrees, and scan every once in awhile during the mission. Look for scan probes.

Deadspace mission areas are ridiculously easy to find if you use exploration probes.

Nightmare, if you want to do missions in low sec and survive, learn to use scaner. Set you scaner to maximum range and when you see a neutral/hostile person entering system start scanning. If you see PROBES on scaner, that means that this person is looking for you. Then dock and dont do that mission again

If you do missions in low sec, one of two things will happen: - you take it really slow, using scout when changing system and constantly scans for probes when in deadspade. This will make you run missions much slower and yield bad isk/hour. - you die a lot from pirates
Here is what you want: a reasonable high quality agent in 0.5 or 0.6 system security, and no lowsec system (0.1-0.4) within a couple of jumps.
For example, my own agent is a quality 18 agent in 0.5 system, and the systems around are all 0.5 to 0.7.

Recon probes. Scan for Ships and Drones. It is harder to find someone in a deadspace than not, but if they person is using drones, it is 6 times easier (you get an extra roll of the exploration dice for each drone). If the drones have their MWD on when changing targets, it's even easier (5x their sig radius). The bigger the ship you use, also the easier to find you.

Yeah, Irjunen is a great system. Not much lag either.

No. The steps listed in the above posts don't require "Going slow", just using common sense.

Nah, that's only true for the popular Q20 mission running hubs or systems with popular Navy/Fleet agents because people believe the myth that they'd give better rewards. Those systems are also loved by pirates because they'll find targets with high probability when scanning.
Sacrifice a little bit of reward by using an unpopular agent with lower quality or use an unpopular division with kill/courier mission mix. (Running courier missions through little gate camps in low sec with Inties/Blockade runners is fun anyway.)
On the average low sec is empty. Running with $1000 billion on your forehead through the desert isn't that dangerous since noone is there to see you. Mostly... Well, sometimes unexpected things appear behind the next dune...

Don't do low sec missions now, wrecks on scanners is a giant beacon saying "easy kill here".
Use websites to find a good high sec agent instead. Force the low sec gankbears to adapt to high sec play.

That's horse ****. If they can see your wrecks, they can see you.
How to avoid being probed:
-WATCH LOCAL
-Don't mission in systems with a lot of pirate activity. THis means if you're in Lonetrek, move out of it.
-Keep the directional scanner up with "Use Active Overview settings" turned off at max range and 360 degrees. Every sooften, run a scan, sort by name, and just check for "Scanner probe". If you see this, it's probably a good idea to reel in your drones (Unless you need them...I'd recommend using a gunboat instead of a droneboat).
-If you see the probe, then set your scanner to 1 million km and turn on Use Active Overview settings. If you see someone pop into the directional scanner and they don't leave in a second or two, they've probed you out and it would be a good idea to consider GTFOing.

Edited by: Goa Vibe on 14/03/2008 19:44:08 I dont mission mine in lowsec missions (passed up on that lucrative mission asteroid field a week ago in a 0.4). I drop a piece of ammo at every warp in spot and MOVE AWAY FROM THAT SPOT - the ammo can leaves no question of where you warped in. And I dont waste any time. I don't use drones. Pop your scanner occasionally. Anyone that has come to your first gate should be showing up as <100,000km away. Anyone closer than that and YES they are coming for you. Haven't have any uninvited guests yet, but then I also DON'T MISSION IN POPULAR HI-QUALITY NAVY HUBS. But I still dont let my guard down.
all that was said in the thread earlier, plus dropping a single piece of ammo at your warp in to prevent them from cloaking, and them maneuvering undetected.
From what I read, drones use microwarp which makes them show up easier on scans easier than player ships. I never use mining drones when mission mining, btw. They (combat drones) are only out when the hourly rats show up.
some theorycrafting..... vs cloakers
chances are if someone jumps in cloaked (CovOp Frig) the jetcan will decloak them - there is a little variation on your exact exit point at end of the warp, but as long as they warp within 2km, they will get decloaked. Lock them so they can't re-cloak.
If any other non-cov op frig, they will be uncloaked when warping in and then attempt to cloak so you will get only a 'wink' of another ship - which you might miss. That ammo will keep them uncloaked til they can move 2km from it - by then you should have them locked.
Either way now, you can keep tabs on them. Careful when killing your current targets that you dont start inadvertently firing on the invading ship.
If they snatch up your ammo jetcan, either friends are coming or he is going to 'try it again'
I suppose if you really want to annoy a prober, go AFK on one of those missions requiring an officer keycard, put your drones on an indestructable object, and drop a jetcan named "0340 Gniess - full pickup" "0420 Gniess - full pickup" lol
The accel gate leading to you will be locked ;p

Jopin our corp ... we like solo players .. you will bring our total to three ... !
Been that way since 2004 ... we play alone but sometimes join up to help etc each other .. based in one 0.3 system life will become more difficult for the pirates to take on two bs'
