OP your an idiot.
Nah, I just like to push the limits of my abilities. If I hadn't engaged that Drake,
1) I wouldn't have found out if I was able to tank him long enough for my fleet to get him 2) I would not be able to say "I fought a Drake in my Comet!" 3) I wouldn't have had the possibility of showing up on his killmail
There are lots of reasons why I have always been as fervent as I am. Most of them have to do with the fact that I cannot be contained. I love trying new things and will not be stopped by people who say "You're an idiot" or "that's a crappy setup." Sure, the advice is helpful. As you can see, I took down the Gallente Navy blasters in favor of the t2 because as it was pointed out in this thread, they do indeed do more damage.
Now, having fought the Drake, I can push my skills further. I learned a lot from that fight. My next ship will be tuned accordingly based on the experience I have received. _________________ Burn.

The difference is a 5 billion ISK snaked Crow is essentailly EVE in god mode. With that kind of fitting, you're fast enough that literally nothing can hit you. Even Rapiers/Huginns can't do it, you have so much speed/inertia that you fly out of web range before you slow down enough to hit. The only thing that's even remotely a threat is lag... so it's still a risky setup due to the chance of lagging out and dying, but a snaked interceptor is probably the safest investment you could make.
Quote: I love to kit out ships the best i can allso, working on a pwn sleip with faction tank etc etc
Again, there's a fundamental difference here. A faction tank on a Sleipnir actually makes a difference. This Comet just dies (died, now) as fast as a a T2 setup while doing no extra damage.
As for the OP... this is where I say "told you so". You died just as inevitably despite spending the obscene amounts of ISK on the ship. The only difference is now you're down 500 million ISK, where if you'd listened and used a T1 setup, you'd be undocking one of the dozen spare Comets in your hangar.
And to whoever is saying I'm just jealous of the ship, I'm not. I have a Caldari Navy Hookbill in my hangar that costs almost as much, with CN weapons (from before the LP store made these easy to get), top-end tank, etc. The key difference here is I keep mine as a hangar decoration and only take it out for duels with people I trust. I have no delusions of it being an effective combat ship, and would fly the T2 version if I ever had some strange reason for taking a Hookbill into general PvP.

Also, it's more the fact that you refused to wiggle on the price at all that deterred me from buying it. The simple fact is with a cap stable ship, the cap booster is for emergencies. If it's an emergency, I'm pretty sure that 12.75 seconds will not differ from 12.00 seconds seeing that the ship will likely be in deep doodoo anyway.
That's why it isn't the best setup. You are limited to the cap injection-rate of the FR-X. You don't have the option to inject cap as fast as with the electrochemical. Now, if such a need only occurs every 10,000 fight or so doesn't really matter when one's to decide if it's the best or not. In this case the electrochemical would preform better in every 10,000 fight and thus be better.
Now if you say that electrochemical is worse due to the faster cap-booster consumption isn't relevant either since you have the ability to manage your cap manually. Now if one fails to manage it right then it's not the ship that is flawed but the pilot.

Hehe this bitter community always makes me lol, like it matters what the next person does with their isk...if anything Siigari just made a juicy target of themselves while...wait for it...having fun playing a game. Props to the OP for actually using it(and losing it) while enjoying what they make of the game. Amazing how ppl still cannot grasp the basic concept of an open ended MMO like EVE, that being, there is no defined way to play it. OP doesn't fail...the whinners who post here fail(at playing a computer game)^.^

Edited by: Shinobi Jonin on 11/02/2008 00:41:10 lol @ the utter trolling of what was essentially a thread about how you can fall in love with one ship and then go crazy making it the best you can with what you have ( the ship that your in love with)
In Real Life (yes this is a RL comparason) people do this with all kind of things, ever seen pimp my ride or know someone who spends endless amounts of isk to restore a old piece of junk that maybe reminds them of "better days". Only to get to drive about and have everyone turn their head not cuz the car is a lamborghini worth more then they make a year but because its a anglia and they've never seen one before.
I swear sometimes the crap posted by so many people in this forum makes me think of youtube posters.
Here's a hint especially to the BOB guy that just took of on one from the outset. This game is about play style some people like mining some like pvping in nano**** that they can run away in at the sligthest sight of danger some like etc etc etc and some like falling in love with one type of ships and then spending all their time making the best out of them.
My personal one was the firetail which i pimped up as much as i could altho i must admit I never did dare fly it in pvp, shame on me Cuz I imagine the adrenaline rush would be just like the very first pvp i did when loosing a BC was a setback of unimaginable proportions.

You're claiming you care nothing about iskies, since its "make believe" money, yet you confess you get an obscene rush out of putting that much iskies out to be shot at.

This. If you want to invest billions in a ship, invest billions in a ship which will give you a return for those billions.
5B Crow is, short of lagging out/DC-ing/extreme bad luck (given that there's always a chance to hit with turrets, and someone, in one of a thousand fights, might get a random wrecking shot sending you to your pod), invunerable. I'd never fly it personally because I've had situations (very rare) where I D/C-ed in combat and, well.
Originally by: Siigari Kitawa In a fairly epic battle, my ship was lost. But damn I held on for a solid minute lol. I tackled, fleet arrived JUST as I was exploding. I held on as long as I could. I was in it for the stay.
I told you so. Do you see now a Taranis would've done much much better in the same role? I mean, 1 kill, one death is not a very good track record for a 1B ship.
As to everyone saying 'oh, it's fun and make-believe ISK', well, it is. However, the idea that I'd have to rat/mission/etc to fund my PvP ships is very meh, my EvE time is limited and I don't want to spend it on ratting.
I guess it's alright for a weekend PvP-er, though; but still, a Taranis would've been a better asset to your gang (as wouldn't die while tackling so you could have more fights and still have a tackler) as you can clearly see now.
So it fails on all counts except 'It's fun, and I can rat for a week to fund myself a new one'.
Which is fine if you like doing that, but ships&modules is about viable/sensible/best/cost-effective setups for a certain role, not 'I know this is stupid, but I like it' type of setups ;)
Furthermore, killing a solo Drake = epic battle
As for faction ships in PvP, I personally own and fly a T2-fit (one rig, can't make my mind on the other two rigslots really) Cynabal, but at least the ship has some use which its T1 counterparts don't do that well and costs a not too horrible 100M. So far it's killed a Crow and a Vagabond (and a few other ships in gang, but every ship works in a ganksquad), so ;)

So long as the OP enjoys the ship and doesn't mind losing it, I see this as a win/win situation.
The OP is or was enjoying flying the Comet to pvp in and the person that popped it gets some great loot, where's the bad? To some players this will be a tremendous waste of isk, but there are a fair few that will consider 1.5 bill to be pin money, just depends on your prospective.

and that would be fine , but thats not what the OP did.He basicly bought standard priced family car and then spent milion dollars in upgrades to get it fast, while he could just buy a very good sport car for 50k $.

Summed it up for you.
First, this is ships and modules. If you post a honour-tanked Dread setup here, you will get flamed, even though you may have enough money to fly and lose honour-tanked Dreads (which are cheaper then this+pod anyway). The line 'it's fun to fly a honour tanked Dread' won't absolve you from being flamed.
Secondly, given the likelyhood of losing a frigate, you'd have to shell out quite a neat sum on GTCs to fly these things in PvP all the time, while you could quite comfortably fly Taranises (which do better at all roles this ship performs except bait) and lose them quite often. Which brings us to point #3.
Thirdly, you do understand that the very idea of a good PvP ship is a ship you can PvP with all the time and replace the inevitable losses you will incur from PvP (and even profit, ideally), right? Ships which do not satisfy this paremeter aren't any different then PvP drakes with no scrams or honour-tanked dreads; they are simply not viable ships.
You cannot seriously expect PvP-unviable ships (even though they might be fun) to not be flamed in ships&modules. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

I don't think people have too much of a problem spending a crap load of isk on a ship - its the cost effectiveness that people are flaming you.
If you had spent that same amount of isk on implants and mods - and a larger more survivable ship, people wouldn't have burned you. Faction magnetic field stablizers costing more than 100 mil make sense on a battleship or a gank ship, becuase you will reap far more than 5 dps from that investment.
Its all about fun - but if you have to rat/grind to make the isk for that rush - it seems like most of your time on eve would be spent doing boring stuff for that brief moment of joy.
You really put some time and effort into your setup - and flying pimped faction ships is pretty neat - just try to spend that kind of isk on something that would last longer in the unpredictable nature of pvp (ie NOT a frigate sized tackler).
With current game mechanics, a MWD is superior to an AB for a tackler in most cases (unless you're in a deadspace pocket, or someone else has a mwd and is on the target and you can warp to them).

this. You dont get a rush out of losing a ship, you get a rush out of losing insane amounts of isk, then bragging about it on the forums.
we're not flaming him because of his isk usage. we're flaming him for sticking expensive modules on a ship just for the sake of sticking them in. spending a ridiculous amount of isk, to get 5 more dps, and actually brag about his ship being omgwtf pwn, uber tackle, amazing dps, great tank when the sheer reality is that the ship is a flying tub of overpriced junkis whats getting him flamed.
