Rattlesnake isn't that great of a passive tanker. But it does more damage and looks infinitely better. If you have ISK to burn on a Rattlesnake, I recommend going for active tanking. Then you can also fit for damage. Or you could just do it on a CNR. Or you could do passive on CNR if you want more damage than a Drake; they are pretty cheap nowadays, too. --- CEO

Actually when properly fitted, a Rattlesnake can do any lvl 4 without a problem in a passive tank. --- Teeheee! mematar's Video Archive |

rattlesnake passive fit for missions
6x caldari navy cruise, 1x heavy nos, free slot
3x lse, 3x CN invul
4x SPR t2, 2x CN bcu
3x recharge rigs
resists :
66,9% em 73,5% thermal 80,1% kinetic 86,8% explosive
perma runs whit one nos (if you dont use it, it runs for around 20minz whit my skills)
around 800 dps tanked on all 4 resistances at the same time (eft nrs for eft geeks) you can change the hardeners around to get better results suiting your missions (but why would you.. that dps tanked is enough for anything really... well mybe AE bonus stage might give problems whit 3x invuls... normal hardeners and you can tank it)
now.. you can fit another heavy nos in high slot if you run missions for amarr (bloodraiders nos) or a smartbomb if you are uber like me and run missions in low sec.

you can do any level 4 in a drake too...dps isnt great but with a shield recharge of 99s the only thing u need to worry about is running out of missiles =)

I sometimes use a NOS in a raven when mission running. While my drones eat the various frigates it's nice to get some free cap from them too
Though the NOS is one of my last choices for a module in this case - I'd normally go with salvageer/tractor, or smartbomb/tractor or some rails or something.

Edited by: DHB WildCat on 04/02/2008 16:10:23 If ISK is no option the rattlesnake will passive pwn ANY tank
My set-up
Highs - 6 cruise launchers / 2 heavy nos
Mids - Pithum a type em, and thrm resistance amplifiers / Vespa's Modified Invulnerability field / 3 Large shield Extenders
Lows - 6 shield power relays
Factor in implants and you're looking at a very nice gain agro ship 8) however if you cant throw isk around a drake is nice too 8) *edit almost forgot you need rigs too 8) Field Purgers

I put your setup into EFT and compared it to a T2 fitted Drake with similar layout and the Drake falls short only 260 DPS tanked (1060 vs 800) and 60 DPS (301 vs 241). The Rattlesnake has 188k effective hp whereas the Drake has 127k, but considering the immense difference in price I don't see the increase big enough to be justified.
With just a T2 fit on the Rattlesnake and without crystals, an active tank can sustain 900 DPS as long as injector permits. In addition you can fit 3 damage mods to almost double your DPS compared to the passive setup. And as soon as you invest some ISK in the fitting, the tanking efficiency will skyrocket past the passive.
Now obviously, if you are under a lot of concentrated fire, buffer is better. But I would not want to be in such a situation with an expensive ship. --- CEO

i fly a passive rattle for most all of my missions
the tank on its is on par with a drake but the dps is much better on a rattle and you have to factor that into over all tanking ... how fast can you get the dps off of you
