Actually they are Artillary.
I am flying a Mymadon and was using 650mm arties and a couple of 125 Hybrids from my old ship, but recently blew a wad to upgrade my ship.
I now have the Drone Range Augmentor and decided to get x3 720mm Scout Arty's (250 PG each). I am oh so happy with them and wish I had the PG to put on another, but I can't. I do ever so love my 720mm's. Thats not the problem.
Its the 180mm Scout Auto Canons that I am disatisfied with. I have two of them I was hoping they would be effective to help my drones take out the close up rats that swarm me during my missions. Generally they orbit me at anywhere from 2K to 7K range. Am I using the wrong ammo. It says optimal is 2K and fall off is 8K. Should I switch to Blasters for those two guns? Perhaps it is the tracking speed is my best guess. What to do. Ideas anyone?
Then again maybe I am spoiled with 70 to 120 damage I get with my 720mm Arty which I absolutely love. It seems the 180mm auto canons when they do hit only do about 10 to 12 damage on average and on up to the low 20's in damage. More often than not though it seems they are missing the target altogether. They seem to just be wasting space.
By the way for anyone who has never tried the 720mm Arty they are definately worth the cost. I had x4 650mm's in my previous fit and the truth is that x3 720mm's is far more effective than x4 of those.

Something I had not thought about. Not a bad idea. I will look into it for sure. Particularly once I have type 2 Drones as they are more expensive. Right now I don't care if they get eaten up as I get them free from salvaging anyway.
However; I would like to know if Medium Blasters would get me the accuracy and DPS I am after, or what I was toying with was putting the absolute fastest tracking speed for accuracy type weapons available even if they are the small size. Which would those be; LASERS?

... Troll?
You're comparing medium artys to small artys, autocannons and blasters. In PvE. With crap gunnery skills. With no knowledge about tracking or range.
Finding the right turret to suit your need to farm lvl2s is not your main problem atm, buddy.

Edited by: Sephra Star on 28/01/2008 17:22:15 I do level 3 missions solo and level 4 with corp mates. The reason I mentioned small guns was simply because in my first fit I used the small 125mm Hybrids off my destroyer for expediency until I could figure out what to put there and they actually performed nearly as well as these medium 180mm auto canons I now have.
I did not suggest I use small arty's at all. I was wondering if maybe small Lasers, or Blasters have that much better a Tracking/Accuracy to practicly guarantee hits in the proximity range I am trying to fill even if they do only small amounts of damage. If it guarantees accuracy it might be worth a try especially if I use small TYPE 2's.
TROLL?
Excuse me for being a NOOB and having fun experimenting.

Running a mission - range is your friend - try rails. In your drone bay keep a set of light drones for small and fast npcs that attack you. Remote reps for drones is a nice touch too. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

Maybe you could keep on fitting the fattest and meanest long range guns you can, but fit a web in the med slots. That way you could drop the speed of close range frigs maybe enough for your long range guns to hit.
Combine this with a 'keep at range 9k' on the frig you want to pop for best results.
Oh and you can deposit directly in my wallet for this great combat advice.

I would recommend just using your drones for close-range frigate screen and keep your 720s for longer range engagements.
There are a number of drone-boost modules you can probably fit in to your low slots that can help them take care of the smaller ships.
That being said, if you think you are going to be fighting mostly close range frigates then 720s are going to really cost you. Mounting a rack of frigate grade artillery will get you much better milage (and give you TONS of extra PG for modules).
An example of an anti-frigate setup I had a lot of luck with a while back was my stabber. 4 280mms plus 3 Large Shield Extenders (10,000 shield) let me cut through frigates like butter while having enough passive shield tank to sit there and wade through even large groups. The setup didn't do so hot against battle-cruisers though.

Problem with that is my current mission agent keeps giving me missions with tons of drones that actually swarm like Bees.
I just changed my fit and replaced my AB with a Stasis Webifier and my 180mm Scout Aerty's performed very well. Believe it or not the 720mm Scouts actually hit at 10K too.
The only problem was they had me down to 30% shields a couple a times. I warped out once for a shield recharg, but managed to finish em off the second time.
In my previous fit with an AB I could maintain range for the big guns, but without an AB my emphasis is on DPS to quicken the missions. Also without the AB I am far more vulnerable to swarms.
To make matters worse in some of the missions I have to deal with Stasis Webifier Turets as well as Energy Neutralizer Turrets.
I still gotta do some tinkering no doubt.
With only 2 million SP I have plenty of room to improove.
Bear in mind also I fly a passive shield tank with 3 Shield Recharge Rigs and the lows filled with shield relays. 15,000 Shield HP with x4 Large Extender 2's.
I should have clarified in my post I was dealing with massive swarms of Drones.
I just now finished the 7 part Drone Mission for the second time and I was far more on edge without the AB the second time through as I could not maintain range to pop them off slow.
Thats the issue though. I want to be able to slice them up as quick as possible because there are so many and since they swarm so close I need to adjust to improove my DPS and that is best done by accuracy to prevent the guns from missing.
I was pleasently surprised at how much better the 180mm's did with the stasis mod to slow em down.
Maybe what I need to do is tailor my guns for specific missions and that of course requires getting to know them. That last mission I just did might have been better served with 6 425mm's as I had no need for a Drone Range Augmentor.
Live and learn and thanks for the responses.
P.S. At least I have a treat to look forward to tonight. Cybernetics 4 will be done and I will have my +4 implants. 3 of them bought with LP that I been saving for my first purchase.
I think I would rather have Estemils Invulnerabilty Shield though in my Mids rather than that Stasis Webifier.

The guy already said he was a noob, we all were/are that at a point, no need to insult!
Either way, just noticed a typo, you have 4 rigs on that setup, or was it just intended that way so he would choose the one that suited better? anyways, i would suggest 2*CCC and 1*Nano pump Although i don't know if it really is necessary to further increase repair ability on the ship? But better cap stability for a character with only 2mill SP i believe is a must, as i doubt he has sufficient cap skills.
EDIT: Also for missioning, long range guns are normally better, so i would personally fit rails as other people have suggested.

If worse comes to worse in an emergency your stuck and can't warp. The missions I was doing that could have happened and embarrassed as it sounds it actually did.
You see I thought I had finished the mission as everything was destroyed except the Lab where I needed to get at the scientist to complete the mission.
Upon destroying the lab I was swarmed by overwhelming numbers. Nothing I could do but watch my ship blow up.
I got 40 million back in the insurance and someone sold me a replacement with all three rigs for 60 million.

I'm in Jita right now playing around with the fit. I know I should be using that fiting tool, but hey I am a noob.
I am debating removing one one of my type 2 Large Shield Extenders to make room for an Invulnerability Shield. It would reduce my shields to 11,700 instead of the current 14,400
Comments on this please...

I have read the threads on both types of tanks for this ship. The consensus was that the shield tank was better for mission runners and that is all this ship is for.
The Myrm is considered one of the only ships where it makes sense to break the Bonus Rule by ignoring the bonus.
I debated long and hard over the decision and read countless posts in numerous threads about this issue for this ship.
I guess that makes me not so much the idiot and you more the IGNORAMASS

Thats a possible fitting with a bit more skills. Replace the hardener with rat specific or Invus. Cap ist stable. only with 2 Invu II it will dry out around 50 minutes.
Sure the Myrmidon has a bonus for armortanking, but the passive tank is a real nice choice for Missionrunners - and its a real good tank.
The reason to use Arties and not Railguns are 1. Mrymidon has no bonus on weapons 2. Arties do not need cap /railguns and lasers need cap 3. The cap recharge rate of this passive tanked Myrmidon is just enough for the active hardeners.
Youre weapons are youre drones so do not try to force for your guns. The guns are a bit of a gimmick, not real nessessary but useful.

I had been operating originally with x6 Shield Relays (150 recharge rate)in the lows until I started experimenting with things needing more PG and I took one Relay out which brought up the recharge to like 174. That made a very large noticable difference for the worse when things got hot and heavy.
My latest stab at it is using the equivalent of the type 2 relays which cost more but have lower CPU and I now am fiting x6 of those. (each a 24% instead of just a 20% as before). That has my Shield Recharge Rate to (110). A very large improvement. With a bit more training in Engineering to get skill level 5 I think I will have enough PG to swap out my x2 180mm autop canons for 425mm ones. I decided to go with the maxed out recharge because I am also deciding to go down to just x3 Large Shield Extender 2's instead of the x4 I was using.
I know I could easily fit a couple 650 Arty to go with the large 720's but I don't need it as the x3 720mm by themselves pack a good enough punch. Using NUCLEAR Ammo to pop turrets at long range is a breeze with them and they can pretty well hit drones on up to Battleships well enough to speed up my Drone Kills.
My personal taste though is to have 2 close range guns for when I get swarmed which happens often enough. If for no other reason than it is more fun to be able to use a stasis to slow a target and watch the guns liquidate HP. I can effectively be destroying x3 enemy ships all at once with this set up; though I usually concentrate fire when there are very many rats still alive.
That leave me the two slots in Mid to play with.
Stasis Web, AB, and or Hardners/Amplifiers.
Those choices I feel must be made on a per mission basis.
My biggest nag though is with the EM resistence which is ZERO.
Can someone answer why it is that everyone just ignors it?
Is it because the Rats simply do not ever deal out EM damage?
I have not been able to try my new fit with the 110 recharge rate yet but I will be as soon as the server goes back up.
I drew Gurrista Extravaganza. A perfect test. Not sure about the Bonus room though. I have only done this mission once and that was with a partner in a Drake.
It will be interesting to see how my shields hold with my new 110 recharge rate. Not sure what I will do in my two free midslots yet. If I was more familiar with the mission I would have no trouble but I need to do this solo in order to determine what mods will work most efficiently based on the Rats tactics.
I am after a balance that enable me to complete the mission faster and that is the way to do it. In the Bonus room I would definately take an AB/Invulnerability I think.

Hi Sephra,
Sounds like your having some fun there :) I dropped using the myrmi for running l4's ever since the drone bandwidth change. It can tank any level 4, however I prefer running missions quicker and considering the dps that is lost i switched.
My setup was as follows
High 5x 650 t2 aries 1x drone link aug
Mid 4 LSE2's 1 Invul 2
Lows 6 SPR 2's
Rigs
3 core defence field purger 1's
Drones 3x Bouncers 5 hammer 2's Whatever you want with the remaining space
No im not an EFT warrior lol, this is a fit that works
18907 shield hp 98.42 rechrge 30em, 72 thermal, 58 kinetic, 44 exp and Cap stable
Thats without gang skills
The ONLY reaon I went down this route, was due to lagging controls etc.. Turn on the invul b4 you go in and you have no worres with lag or anything..
Not idel for geting thru the mish's quickly, however absoluely safe as houses if the lag monster hits. not even had to run from sasha's missions which was surprse...
I did change ammo / medium drones for specific damage type
Have fun Red

there is so much wrong with your setup it's not even funny.
TO start, the myrm gets an armor rep bonus. Why in the name of tyrrax thorrk would you shield tank it?
WHat I also don't understand is 2/3 Gallente ships that get an armor rep bonus, the Myrm and Hyp both are the 2 best gallente shield tankers WTF??!! ----- They've gone to PLAID!!
