I'm not a carebear. I mine in 0.0. Our corp is based in 0.4.
BUT I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO TRAVEL 50 JUMPS TO GO FROM NEW CALDARI TO AMARR.
The highway gates make travel BEARABLE. They do not cause inter-regional trade problems. IMO people are way overhyped about this.
Removing the highway gates would RUIN EVE. I can't stress this more. Now its ok if you put one system in between thats 0.0 (come up with an RP reason if you want), but DONT MAKE US TRAVEL MORE JUMPS. Its far enough already.

How about you travel part of the way and have someone else travel the rest, whoever said you'd be able to run a one man freakshow all around the galaxy?
People will tire and quit for many a reasons, most having nothing to do with game mechanics, faulty or not but their lacking imagination and ability to adapt.

well why not meet people in the middle on this shorten the super highways so that it takes an additional 5 jumps to get some where.
Tactiacly another empire wants the trade but they do not want the otherside to be able to warp right into there main system. So set up a buffer zone.

I just don't get how making travel more tedious is going to improve the game? I'm not sure what ***** induced hallucinations are giving people these ideas, but they really need to back away from the stuff.
Hey, here's a tip for all you frigin whiners, if you don't like the highway, don't use them. Go the long way. Travel all day staring at stargates for all I care. If you want to quit over it, please do, nobody will miss the 5 people who keep complaining over and over and over again about the highway system vs. the growing population that is enjoying a much better game than was initially released.

Actually, they want travel to be TOO tedious for the average person to want to do it. That way they can make money buying things and hauling them to places with no native supply and reselling at a profit... of course there IS no place with no native supply thanks to the overabundance of BPs, but these people still insist that regional price differences will magically appear, even though EVERYTHING is manufactured in EVERY region.
If you had to go to Amarr for lasers then yes, no highways would mean a market for hauling lasers to Gallente or Caldari space. But since people make lasers in Amarr space, Gallente space, Caldari space, Minmatar space, and every OTHER type of space with stations, the price differences would never get high enough to make any real money hauling... there is local supply in EVERY REGION for EVERY ITEM that is mass produced. And for the rare stuff, like good tech 2 modules, it sells as fast as they make it so there would never be a large enough surplus in one region to drive prices down. That means no place to BUY at a lower price, and therefore no way to profit by reselling.

*the following is a quote by me but it is easier to read as standard text*
1.When will the superhighways that Link the region's main systems together be taken out so that the market works better?
point A:The richer individuals wouldn't be able to advertise and sell in every main region maybe 2 or 3 thus allowing more people to sell items at standard prices without so much undercutting of the price.
2.Will the empires ever divide their borders so that there are 0.0 systems between them or make PvP in the .1 and .2 systems so that there is risk of leaving that region or empire keeping more sellers away from selling in so many regions.
point A: player a wantes to sell ships in region b as well as in this region ( region a ), but he heard there was a player pirate around those regions and he isn't sure if its worth going to another regioin with his bps to sell there.( his choices are to stay in his current area or take the risk and go to the other region with his BP's)
*listen the point is to not make u travel farther. the point is THAT YOU DONT NEED TO NOR SHOULD NEED TO TO SELL A PRODUCT OR MINE OR WHATEVER. Selling in yuali is fine and dandy but set up shop in a local system where every1 in that CONSTELATION goes to shop for goods.* --------------------------------------------

i think the highway gates were a good thing at the start as there was a small population, but now with almost 9k last sunday and nearly 8k on a monday night, i think the time has come to make empire space "bigger", which will help the newbies and their new corp find their niche as well as the Tech 2 market stay healthy, with the supply being limited by the current small avaibility of blueprints and a distance factor.

If travel is tedious then you're playing the wrong game.
As a fortunecookie once said to another, it isn't the goal that makes it worth while it's the journey itself.
Without the highways people will go back to being territorial even in empire space and I predict more conflicts brewing because of it.

If I want a game where I spend 90% of my time traveling I'll go buy a flight simulator.

Ah. So I'm supposed to just hand over 30,000 units of Nox to some Bozo to sell for me? There had better be some collateral system in place. The only thing I see happening after the removal of the highway system is a clogged escrow system, blue print copy sales going through the roof, and several isolated economies.

EXACTLY!!! EVE IS NOT A FLIGHT SIM!
If they want, they can put 0.0 systems inside the highways (surrounding Yulai?). But otherwise, this is ridiculous. It'll clog the escrow system, ruin the economy, and will NOT magically create price differences.

This is a seperate discussion about a seperate thing---everyone else is talking about how to nerf them, and the other one has gone off topic. This one is a seperate, complete thread in its own right. The highway gates are critical to a good portion of the EVE playerbase and removing them will just double/triple travel times, tick people off... and make escrow even more clogged.
