My friends think I must be insane to be able to complete it within 2 days, having never played it before. Is this true? I also managed episodes 1 and 2 in one sitting each . --------------------------------------------------------------------

The only reason i took 2 days to complete HL2 the first time was that i could only start about 6 or 7 pm at it's release day, and i had to work the next day.
Took me about 10 to 12 hours, on medium. Both ep1 and ep2 were 4 to 6 hours.

Edited by: RoSsCs on 13/01/2008 22:52:08 I got HL2 on its release day and remeber it took ages to be unlocked, cause everyone was unlocking it.
But still took me about a month of casual play to complete it, can't stand to play games for hours on end without breaks.

HL2E1 and E2 are quite short - average completion time is about 4~5 hours according to Steam and my friends, I completed E1 in just under 5h, I have yet to play E2... I should get around to that.

HL games are nice but as has been said, far too short. HL1 took me a while, but HL2 only lasted a few days. EP1 I did within two days and EP2 AND Portal I did within a single session
I sometimes wish there was more to them. Doom 3 managed to keep me occupied for 5-6 days on Nightmare (though the sameyness of the non-hell levels got a bit boring after a while) and it's about as linear as you can get

I finished Unreal 2 in a day. That was the last time I purchased an FPS with a storyline.
You can either do it right quick on one level, or you can't do it at all on the next. Wherezafunninnat? ----- TANSTAAFL

I can't stand rolling through FPS on standard difficulties, I don't mind repeating scenes over and over just as long as there's an option to set it onto impossibly hard. Farcry on realistic is a good example of this. _

I have actually yet to beat HL I (I'm stuck, gah). Beat Portal in a few hours though and wish it was like 10x as long >:(

Word. HL1 was the first FPS that i truly liked, no not even doom 1/2 came that far.
Doom was the first FPS i ever played however, man i still got the original copy for PS1, PC copies were lost a long time ago. *signature removed - please email us to find out why (include a link) - Jacques(mods@ccpgames.com) EVE is like the "Fisherman's Friend" of MMOs. I go back as far as Wolfenstein. First I really found deeply enjoyable was Marathon. Doom, Wolfenstein, Rise of the Triad, and Heretic had no real depth to them.
HL1 had one of the best stories and plots of the genre, hands down. I played the single player exhaustively, and played CS / TFC past sane limits.

I go back as far as 3D Monster Maze (really!), but yeah, Half Life is the best FPS I've played as far as depth and feeling of really being involved goes.

First time: one week. Nowadays, I can do it in a matter of hours pretty much because enemies don't notice you're there until you're in dragon-tooth-sword range. --------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus, that's well before my time. I remember my cousin having a copy of Tau Ceti as the first first-person game I ever laid eyes on.
I'd have to say that Half-Life wins the award for single most unique level in any FPS to that date: "Surface Tension", the rocket lab with the disgusting number of tripmines. It wasn't just a simple jump puzzle, it was a jump puzzle that required precision kills, discriminating fire in both weapons and field of fire, had monsters that could blow the whole damn place up were they not killed promptly, and in some spots used the very things designed to kill you (the mines) as the tool to clear the puzzle.

While fun to watch, and so far i've only watched the HL1 video, hes skipped parts of the game and used cheats, so personaly hes not "done the game" hes only got to the end in the fastest possible time by cheating. CCP: Were like a clock upon a wall, Always moving but never going anywhere.
