Looking for a PVE ultra-tank mostly designed to go into a tough plex level and just absorb sick damage while a couple allies mop up but could be used as a pvp bait tank as well. Is it at all viable to mix shield and armor repping? Maybe passive shield, active tank or vice-versa? A BS is the largest thing I can fly right now. Is there a battleship out there that could fit this role better than another? It wouldn't have to have any guns, this would be it's sole role. Or is this just not viable and there is a better single-line tank out there for the task?

Harpy is always good for this role, can have really high resists and support ships shield and capacitor transfering. Its small sig means it can take alot more damage in really difficult complexes only problem is nos which are countered using passive shielding and gang members transfering shileds to you...
As far as BS's go, Apoc or Abaddon is probably your best bet for Armour tanking. Shield tanking Try the Rokh.

in PvP and some PvE, your main problem with an active tank would be NOSs and Neuts. no cap, no tank.
that said... I used to fly an Abaddon with a fairly impressive tank.

which is equivalent to a 4/10 plex maybe?
To the OP - Vulture's passive tank is sick, 3k DPS isnt unreasonable. And in a gang the HP and resist boost will only make it better, if ur not using guns u can use the highs for gang links. I'd definately fit the passive defence mod.

A fully passive tanked drake can absorb more damage than any battleship tank I'm aware of and do it indefinitely WITHOUT sacrificing much of it's rather mediocre firepower. If i'm not mistaken at empire prices you can get the drake fully equipped with t2 gear at around 100 - 120 mil or so.

When tanking level Vs for my corp, I fly a resist-oriented Drake (i.e. more hardeners/resist amps, fewer extenders) while a buddy in a Basilisk feeds me shields and cap. I'll probably end up buying an Eagle in the near future because of it's insane resists and reasonable price.

You could try a Broadsword heavy interdictor, which (when forgoing the bubble projector) can mount an utterly obscene passive tank while having significantly less signature than a Drake. Granted, it takes more skills to fly one, too.

For tanking hard plex's , 7/10 - 10/10 you would want a medium sized caldari ship , eagle , vulture and set it up with a very good passive tank.
The small sig radius combined with very high resists you can get a eagle to tank better than any bs, plus if you just have 1 logistics or repping bs you will have 0 problems.

ive always wondered what would make the sickest ultra tank!
put its use aside.....it would be interesting to know what ship could make the most killer tank! (effective hp wise)
i reckon rattlesnake!
id like to know what a rattlesnake could tank if pilot had max compensation skills and fitted a massive shield and armour passive tank (inc active armour repper of course ;) )
anyone done the calcs?
P.S.: why is the spell check telling me im spelling 'armour' wrong, when im not! its the 'English' language.....and since we created it...i think we're right!
CCP....please for the love of god....nerf the incorrect forum dictionary..and return the true one!

If you're going to passive shield tank then "small" sig radius really doesn't apply anymore, you'll have a BS sized radius. -=^=- "Someday the world will recognize the genius in my insanity." |
