Drop the "r" at the end and you can see why.
The thought of a nuclear armed country tipping towards civil war is more than a little scary.

Civil war is extremely unlikely the rest of the commonwealth would step in well before that happened, the real question you should be asking is what this is going to do to the upcoming elections and who is likely to be in power afterwards. Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Mail [email protected] if you have questions. -Hango

Edited by: Tal Nok on 27/12/2007 20:42:31 I'm betting that one of Musharraf's officials had it happen - Bhutto's security team had an eye on a few people the last few weeks. Perhaps one of the officials are actually involved in the extremeists groups? I say yes.
Perhaps when Musharraf listened to his officials telling him to call for a state of emergency took eyes off of specific people/groups long enough to get thier pieces into place.
EDIT: Musharraf stays in office - his officials stay - who will have access to the nuculear capabilities?
Just a theory though.

no matter how you look at it, a country in political turmoil that also happens to have nukes is a scary thought. Lets hope things settle down quickly, although that's not very likely.

Probably not but some Pakistani's are speculating openly that this could lead to civil war. Certainly there is violence over there in numerous areas in response to her assassination. I doubt it will bubble into a full-blown civil war but stranger things have happened. WWI started over the assassination of the Arch-Duke of Austria-Hungary. By itself a seemingly insignificant event but the result was anything but.
Just can't tell with this. I suspect how the election is handled will decide just how seriously this divides the country.

The souls of over a million dead Bengalis would probably disagree about the reliability of the Commonwealth with respect to dealing with Pakistan. A lot of souls from Sierra Leone and Uganda would probably join in.
In the last 4 decades, Pakistan has experienced a major civil war and multiple insurgencies. Every civilian Prime Minister since independence has left office either at gunpoint or in a coffin. A number of potential Prime Ministers have been shot or poisoned before they got a chance to win elections.
Pakistani politicians make Russians look like paragons of honesty. Pakistan's government makes the old Austro-Hungarian empire of old look like the epitome of efficiency. Pakistan's legal system makes that of Medieval France look enlightened and streamlined. It's been a mess of a country for almost 60 years.
This is just one more stick in the great national funeral pyre Pakistan's political class has been building for 60 years. More ink in their collective suicide pact.

That's only mildly extreme. I live in the U.S. and I am as critical as anyone of our foreign policy but this is beyond them. Only poorly educated impoverished teenagers with crude explosives and stolen weapons are capable of this type of work.

It is a problem, it's against the forum rules. If I'd go post **** and links to racist sites, would it also "not be a problem until someone makes it a problem"?

Ah, of course it was _performed_ by interior power. But staged in US or GB for sure. They do it subtly, you know.

Well of course they support some politics with they left hand and kill the same politics with their right one. They've been doing it for ages. They don't need stability, the more middle-hot conflicts, the better. That's the essense of "divide and conquer", you should've been learnt it in middle school.
