Here's one to start the topic off; Boxer Rebellion
Man would that make an excellent epic movie, the chinese are bound to hate it though since they get to play the indians.

I have always loved the scifi book "Enders Game".
But I assume there are a few problems that can ruin the movie. Find a kid that can play Ender convincing + Ender do kill other kids in the book, and if any USA company got the task, I think they would remove that part due to their mssed up "moral" rules. I hope a UK company could take the task, since I honestly think UK actors are much better than the crap hollywood spew out. |

I'd like to see a treatment of Ringworld, but they'll screw it up. I have yet to see an artist's conception that had proper scale/perspective. I did see once some pics from a guy who had rendered it to scale (ten or fifteen years ago, with similarly aged graphics), and the results were surprisingly underwhelming. ----- TANSTAAFL

Ringworld would be very good, although Man Kzin Wars would be better! Much more violent, but I am a sucker for maiming and pillaging and raping and dont forget midgets...what was I talking about? Then again super nerdy movies made off of books written by wanna be theoretical physicists... I'd probably go with Manifold Time _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. Ringworl definetly. And the Man-Kzin wars would be great as well. Foundation series would also be great but I doubt it would be made today considering there isn't any action in the books. Although I am sure they will add action sequences just like they did to "I, Robot"

Discworld... not produced by hollywood "let's remove this "death" character from Mort. people dont want to see that in a film" execs with no clue.
HP Lovecraft's "the Call of Cthulhu" and "The Haunter of the Dark" as good quality films.
Charlie Stross' "Atrocity Archives" and "JENNIFER MORGUE" (capslock for book title) would be superb, but I suspect would need a stunning scriptwriter to convey the textual humour.
I'd still like to see a modern film about motorsport, in the vein of of John Frankenheimer's 1966 "Grand Prix", as a petrolhead... possibly a biopic of Senna, or the tragic 1994 season.

They've been talking about this for YEARS. Every time they get close, it just falls through. I really hope they do do it, as it's one of my favorite books, but I doubt we'll see it done, if even to the quality of the book(s).

I think any of Bernard Conrwell's books would make great movies. The Gallow's Theif, Redcoat, Warlord Chronicles, Saxon Stories, or The Grail Quest series. All were awsome.
Steven Pressfields latest book, The Afghan Campaign was really good too.
As for non-historical stuff, Hugh Lauries book The Gun Seller was awsome. I also would like to see a Colony Wars movie series. ------ Any factual errors or mistakes in spelling and grammar should be attributed solely to me and not my nation of origin. |

I'm really disappointed he's writing the screenplay... likely going to be full of the horrific Christian propaganda he drowned almost all of his following books in, I think that period of time in his life when he wrote the base to that series was a general fluke. It's depressing thinking about some of the garbage he's written since then. --------

I've always thought some of the Eve short stories would make good 30 minute episodes.
Foundation would be terrible to make into a film. None of the characters stick around, and there's not much that happens that would keep anyone but a hard sci-fi fan interested. Maybe a series of 6 1-hour features would do the trick (each book has 2 main stories).
The rest of the stuff, I haven't read so I can't really comment on it, but I do have one more suggestion: Deus Ex! How AWESOME would it be to see that made into a film (with some fairly major bits changed obviously)? --------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm hoping for the "A song of Ice and Fire" series to be made into a movie, but that's probably a bit farfetched because of the length of it all and the amount of political intrigue... it's confusing enough when you can read it and see the characters' thoughts, I can't see how it would be conveyed on screen. Though my film buff/fresh out of film school director wanabee cousin has heard that HBO is working on a series based on the books... after watching Rome, I think it could work. Maybe it's the only way it could work. ------ It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what. |

'48 by James Herbert is the only book I've ever read that's movie worthy to be honest.
It'd make an awesome movie, but the setting alone would be a big trouble to pull off.
