I was just browsing through the ships to see what I want to end up in so I can train more specifically. So I take a peek at the command ships. I was just wondering what's the main difference between the Astarte and the Eos? What playstyle would I be more leaning to towards if I went either way? What's their viability for pvp and mission running? What skills should I be learning to fly one effectively? I've been looking more at the Astarte as the pre-reqs for it are for the more gun boat ships, and I've no idea what logistics are as I'm still a bit of a newbie to this game. Thanks in advance.

Astarte is combat, Eos is gang support. Eos can tank a bit harder, but Astarte puts out a lot more damage.
Astarte (with rails) can do missions, but a BS is faster.
Sadly Eos' Ew gang bonuses are rather crap in comparison to other races... so honestly I would just go for Astarte.

the astarte is a gank ship. lots of damage. mainly a gun-boat. the tank of the astarte is good but not the best.
the eos is a great tank ship but lacks a bit damage (thx to trinity... eos got nerfed) it used to be a drone-boat with insane tank and DPS, rumors say some guy made a 08/10* complex solo in an eos surviving with 20% hull.
anyways, for both of them you need very good mechanic skills for the armor tank. mechanic 5, hull upgrades 5, repair systems 5, armor compansations at least at lvl 4 (explosive 5 is a must) and you'll need very good gunnery skills. i am a gallente pvp pilot specialized on drones and my drones always get shot lol :P now i'm going for gunnery to fix that lack of damage.
and dont forget to get skills for t2 drones and ew drones. electronic warfare drones are pretty usefull on a command ship.
never looked into leadership skills yet. but could be usefull to fit fleet assisting modules. (commandships got bonus on fitting warfare link modules)
cheers, don
*) 8/10 - old complex system, the 0.0 plexes arent static anymore but 8/10 was about the 2nd hardest NPC plex existing (after 10/10). . . . |

compensation skills aren't a big deal if you use active hardeners (which the compskills don't help when they're on) and the Eos tank is so bad ass, it's not really needed to have the other skills at V to tank PvE.
Eos is great for lvl3. Like others said it can tank lvl4, better than my domi infact, but after trinity its gank makes lvl4 missions too sloooooooooow. Pralay |

But on an armor tanker you will have at least 1 Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane and then the lvl5 for explosive makes a world of difference.

No sane individual would train Explosive Armor Compensation to 5. Level 4 is plenty. The difference in explosive resists between level 4 and level 5 EAC is less than 1.8% total and as low as 0.7% total for any combination of explosive resist modules, including single resist, adapative, and energized plating.
EANM are used more in PvP than missioning, and only as a failsafe. If you know the damage you will be facing, hardeners are better, to which compensation skills provide no substantial effect. |

astarte is pwn pvp ship, nice dmg and fairly good tank.(nothing u wanna be proud of but...)
but smaller ships out of web-range are a b***ch. so its basicly a gang ship.
its a "up in ur face" close range ship.
u need good gunnery skills to do the dmg and good armor skills to keep up the tank u get with this ship, u would prolly also want good med drone skills to dish out that extra dmg, or ecm drones that can save ur bum. --------------------------------------

Most important skills to train for the Astarte are navigation actually, as that's its only problem area (getting into range, not being kited). Of course armor/gun skills are also needed, but you can't kill what you can't catch.
