The problem is all that spam comes from trial accounts, once their banned they just make another alt and because its the rookie help you can't realy ban trial accounts from talking there as they're the ones who its aimed at.
I don't know what the solution is but from the looks of things the problem's only going t get worse, a year ago there wasnt nearly as many isk sellers as their are now, or atleast they were quiet about it.

Edited by: Leora Nomen on 17/12/2007 00:23:41 When I started playing there wasn't any spam at all in any channels. Then one farmer website started spamming and the others followed in. They know new players don't know the rules, that ISK buying is not allowed in this game, and that rookies are the ones who would be low on money and so target them especially.
Two things you can do: 1. r-click on spammer's name and hit block 2. hit F12 and write a petition under Rules and Policies, Harassment - don't have to make it long, just copy/paste his message and write "isk spam" in title or something like it (takes 5 seconds to do it) and he will be banned within some minutes

What the other posters said tbh, we try our best to limit it but it's a seemingly never ending cycle.
Block/ignore them and petition them, muting them is quick

In the past it has been suggested that CCP could put in a setting of "Block/Ignore Trial Accounts". This would be ideal for paying customers. Heck I'd check that box if I was on trial account too. I'd love to see this solution as it leaves me not having to pester gm's or isd to remove visual trash.

One thing that the people in power might want to consider would be multiple rookie channels. It would limit the amount of ISK sellers and newbies in a channel, letting them ask questions without text flying by.

newbie corp channels already serve this function nicely, of course as soon as you open your mouth you start getting the spam evemails.

The devs could implement a flood rule on the channels, setting it so trial accounts can't send a message directly after another. Put a couple seconds buff in between messages.

CCP should IP Ban the spammers. It's irritating and CCP have the ability to do this so why not?

Because it doesn't work. CCP can't ban the ip address itself as with most services people are on dynamic ip addresses. Thus the ip of an isk reseller today (which gets banned) is your ip address tomorrow (just an example). The problem is similar to having roaches. (I grew up inner city) When you step on one, another promptly displays itself. Heck, if we figure out a way to handle them (for now) they'll run off into the MMO next door as well. The truest solution would be for the MMO industry itself start actively ceasing and desisting these parasite industries from encouraging fraud. Now, I'm not going into all the reasons why buying and sell of isk for cash is fraud. But I do think that if CCP wanted to get serious about stopping the spam they would enable a setting in the client that allows each person to blanket "ignore trial accounts". I fear this solution might be counter productive for the need for speed initiative as this would vastly expand the checks on block listing but it is the only fair solution. Or, perhaps, have a specific channel called "Trial Help" and then disallow "trial accounts" to talk in anything but "Rookie", "Trial", and "NPC corp". Nah that doesn't work as trials can still join player corps. Well, all in all I'm sure we totally agree on one thing: It is a problem and blocking each one is not a viable solution.

Just require Credit Cards for trials and make it so at the end of the trial a player has to log onto the webite to pick which sub they want otherwise acct expires. Then they can ban farmers credit card's from applying for a trial, and maybe get lucky and find the fort knox account and remove billions of isk from the economy. If you don't have a credit card, then you would need a buddy trial account or, just pay for 30 days, 15 dollars isn't going to break the bank and if it does maybe you should be playing F2P games. Jeez you don't even have to drop down $40-50 dollars like most games to buy them, it only cost $5 dollars.
It boils down to **** 100 ppl off or **** 2000 ppl off. If a new player trys the game out and sees 423,649 isk spams in his first few days of playing he/she may just quit and never finish trying the game out.
