I've been using a whacking great CRT for my homebrewed computer (it used to be the second screen for my laptop before I built the homebrew), but it's not exactly ideal. It weighs a ton, and goes so far back, that with the back against the wall behind my desk, the front is right in my face. It can support 1600x1200 resolution but it's painful to look at at more than 1280x960. Can't be good for the eyes.
So I'm looking to get a flatscreen monitor. Preferably over 20 inches, but I can just about put up with a 19 inch one if needs be. Anyone have any recommendations on where to buy one without getting ripped off? Also, just occured to me, will they get cheaper in the january sales?
Thanks for any advice. --------------------------------------------------------------------

Er... Homebrewed? Computers aren't "brewed". The repeated use of homebrewing demanded reprimanding.
Newegg is the place I do all my shopping. Good prices (though better deals can be found elsewhere from time to time), excellent return policy, excellent shipping. I doubt prices drop much in January, thats more of a retail thing. Big price drops follow computer release trends online far more closely than the season. That said, there might be some overstock on sale, and if your lucky, it'll be the piece of kit your after.
And for your CRT, make sure whatever resolution its at is set to 80hz. Thats the mininum refresh rate (on *high* quality monitors, those cheap dells at 100hz will still *****your eyes) to avoid mind-nubming eye pains. 85hz is much preferable if you can get it.

Wow, delivery seems fairly expensive on newegg. If it's always that expensive for screens, I'll be tempted to just go down the computer shop down the road --------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, delivery of screens will be expensive. They're heavy and fragile. What do you expect...?

Sorry but like... Are you blind on purpose?
There is a thread on the front page of this forum dealing with exactly the same thing you are asking...
Maybe smarter idea to ask there? As it contains a ton of information already...
