I realize ccp is in this to make money but shouldn't it matter that long time players are leaving the game because ccp caters to a couple of huge alliances and ignores everyone else?
The rest of your post makes you look like you're talking out of your ass to the point I'm not even sure I wanted to respond, because you do infact look like either a troll, or using fake guises as some sort of merit to champion the cause of a safe highsec.
Explain how CCP is catering to only a couple of huge alliances. Give specifics. I could make quite a lovely list of how CCP has cater'd to highsec in response.. if you actually do put forth a reasonable legit list.
CCP is a business.. they want money. They also have pride, and want to create a grand game that people enjoy. Simply on those two notions.. they care about every single sub, new or old or middle aged. They need to create a product people enjoy, and they need the money to continue that.
The very rare EVE model of sandbox, Everybody Verse Everybody which includes consent and nonconsent, direct and undirect ripple effects.. is working. It isn't for everyone.. no game nor any one thing will ever be for everyone. Be glad you're blessed with Choice. How many MMOs can claim a growing sub-base that spans nearly 9 years? How many ultimately end up going on a downward slope over the cross of their existence instead?
Make a perfectly safe sigment of EVE.. and poof goes large, vital chunks of the population. There will be less explosions and boomboom.. which in turn makes traders/manufacturers/scientists leave the game because their sigment took a sharp hit from both no boom highsec, and loss of core combat pilots that are revolting the change. LP shrinks in value even more, much more so.. mission/incursion runners ***** fit about their diminishing gains and quit. Those that stick around, safely get their the bestest possible faction fit ship.. do the same thing over n over n over n over with it safely, and quit from repeatitive boredom that the vast majority of MMOs suffer from.
It is and always will be a stupid, dumb ass idea to make all of or portions of highsec completely and 100% safe.
And you know what might happen to those that stick around? They move to null cause that is where the only action remains in the game. What is the point of safely harvesting Isk if you do not use?
When your friends killed their characters.. their wallets are gone, their faction fit puppy ships gone, expensive implants gone.. the only thing they will have left, is their memories. Same goes for everybody that biomass. The more you use what you have ingame, the more memories you'll create. The more you cuddle those things, and take sigments away.. the less chance of creating more epic memories than before. You're going to lose it all eventually anyway.
You even set yourself up at the end of your post.. knowing the shitstorm you'd take. Why?
Simple.. how would you like it if I walked in your house, **** on your wall and told you it looks better cause I said so?
Exactly.
Don't change the core foundation of EVE.. go find a different game that already as what you want in place to make you happy.
EDIT: I don't play WoW. I respect what it is and understand it is a good game for its time. Rather than play it and sit around, bitching about them changing the foundation of it to fit me.. I simply don't play it and found a game that is more to my taste and style. |

God I ******* love the accent her posts have in my head.
Also to the OP: I know everyone has a different idea of what kind of game this should be. I think that CCP is trying to cater to a group of gamers (i think I'm one of them) that like Eve because of the danger. We like the fact that you can get blown up even if you are minding your own business. It is exciting for us. I know it'd be nice to just mine while you watch TV and not have to worry about pirates, but honestly there are plenty of games with systems like that and THEY ALL SUCK.
I think the developers like the anarchistic nature of Eve and its players. It is what makes their game unique and interesting. I know it sucks for some people who want to never be bothered, but honestly you are going to have to deal with it because it frankly disagrees with what seems to be CCP's vision for this game.
And it isn't about money, obviously. Eve could have far more subscribers if they went the route of other games like WoW with numerous safety nets and safe zones. That type of game appeals to a large audience and this is why those games have many times the amount of subscribers Eve has. Eve instead opted for gameplay elements (risk) that those other games don't have, and many of us love it for that. I'm sorry if that is a problem for you. |

I think there is the game CCP wants us to play (whatever that happens to be atm) and the game we want to play (whatever that happens to be atm for each of us).
It's a delicate balancing act and they can't keep everyone happy, but I do think they go out of their way to promote certain things that are detrimental to their game due to someone's vision.

How about you try to rise up to meet the game's challenge instead of demanding that it be brought down to your exact specifications? That kind of thinking is so pathetic. "I'm having a hard time, so clearly something must be wrong.... with the world. Yeah, the world needs to change. I'm fine. I never lose at Farmville, so I must be awesome."
I hope you'll understand that beneath the rudeness, I'm really trying to give you advice, for what it's worth: grow up. That, or go play one of the myriad spoon-feeding, entitled-playerbase MMOs out there. WoW is the premier example. As an old timer from that game, I can tell you that dumbing things down to the lowest common denominator is the last thing likely to please "veterans" who care for the game and not just their egos. |

Of course CCP cares when people close their accounts. They just dont care when ONE guy closes his account.
They are a company and expect a certain number of quitters each month. People simply move on to other games, have children, get married, whatever.
They care if people close their accounts, because if we ALL close our accounts, we'll be closing their office doors on them as well.
A company doesnt really care about the individual's problems/issues, instead they try to appeal to the majority to stay in business. Which is usually good for... most people.
And CCP cares more about its customers then most companies.
I bought BF3 and have TERRIBLE audio issues. The -ONLY GAME- i've ever had audio problems with, and their solution is to BUY a Creative Labs soundcard. Its a very common problem, and EA would rather tell its customers to shell out another 70 dollars then to try and fix the bug. And theres -MANY- bugs in bf3 that are just simply tolerated because people know it'll never be fixed.
Theres bugs in every game, including eve, but CCP has been continuously patching and updating and expanding this single game for nearly 10 years straight now. Its almost 10 years old and has better graphics engine then most games released this year.
CCP has stuck with its product longer then any company i can think of off the top of my head. |

@OP - I am a bit of a highsec carebear, and I can understand wanting a "safe" space, so you can just get on with things, especially if you have limited time available, and don't want to deal with anyone else's crap, but that's not the game we signed up for. If you've been here since beta, surely you've noticed by now that none of this behaviour is new - why has it taken so long for you to complain/do something about it?
A problem I see with EVE at the moment, is the segregation of players into distinct zones - High, Low & Null sec. Although it certainly doesn't apply to everyone, a lot of people hesitate to cross those high/low & low/null boundaries - hence phrases such as "The Great Wall of Carebear" get thrown around.
To thrive (IMHO), EVE needs more people to travel between those zones - adding another "safe" zone is just going to add to the problem. The problem with "safe" zones (or alternatives, such as declaring yourself "neutral", requiring consent to PvP, etc), is that once you start using them, you end up using them all the time. This causes highseccers to get softer and softer and softer, making the transition to the "real" EVE that much harder. EVE's harshness, and that constant threat of danger, is the Viagra that stops you becoming Mr Floppy.
We already have enough people crying about "being ganked" and "why won't people leave me alone" on these forums - imagine how bad it will get when these people accidently stray outside their new "TrueSafe"-« zones? I don't think this forums' storm-water drains are big enough to cope with the amount of tears flowing through them. Think of all the hamsters that'll drown.
My container is NOT imploding! It's just a bit upset that it only sees cheap crap. |

Eve is a sandbox... that means what happens in eve is down to us the players not CCP. That means if a group of players are getting out of hand then it's down to the rest of the player base to put them back in thier place.
This hand holding expectancy of a certain proportion of the player base is a symptom of the real world leaking through to eve.
I can't cope in the real world, the government is thier to hold my hand... I can't cope in eve CCP should be here to hold my hand too. |

5p4c3 M4n wrote:I truthfully think that at least half the subscriber base in eve would leave if someone started a game like eve with places to play that were entirely safe from griefing morons. I can say that I would be one of them. It would be nice to be able to play in clearly demarc'd safe zones. I am a pvp'er. it's what I do in eve and I love it. Piracy in low sec is an incredibly fun part of the game, including gate camping with good friends. But some times I need to make some quick isk or I need to mine some carrier fuel, etc. etc. At this point it would be nice to have some safe area to play so I can relax and not keep looking over my shoulder.
You are playing the wrong game then. CCP has made huge strides in catering to the casual and non-PVP players. CONCORDE was not in this game when it released, and on top of that, npc rats were much scarier than they are now, including camping on stations and orbiting outside your optimal and a lot more of them web and scrammed you.
You are complaining about a core concept of the game. The only truly safe place in EvE is docked in a station. If that isn't enough for you, go play Perpetuum Online. It has true safe zones. Whining about null sec players (which, funnily enough, has nothing to do with your only clearly stated complaint, which is about suicide ganking in high sec) and then about a fundamental mechanic of EvE with a sensationalist title is a waste of your time and energy and/or most likely troll bait. |

I'll support the creation of 100% safe space IF:
1) There's no asteroid belts / ice 2) There's no planetary interaction 3) There's no anomalies of any sort 4) There's no missions or rats (after all, it's 100% safe) 5) You can't setup POSs 6) You can't lock anything edit: 7) No industry of any sort!
So what would you do without all those? Well, you're safe to chat up the locals! Anything else and you're not getting my vote :D |
