Edited by: Quinn Oron on 07/12/2007 23:33:17 Not a bug or anything, I would imagine.
Just with the new cloaking effect on the new graphics engine. Who thinks it would look much cooler that when you decloak, the effect starts from the front to back (like cloaking) rather than back to front? Understandably, it's a 'reversed' process. It's just when I decloak in a Recon to startle some poor newbie, the first thing I don't want them seeing is my ships butt. The front would look a lot more imposing and I'm sure some people would agree.
EDIT: Typo.

I agree that it would be cooler, but I honestly don't think it's a big deal.
What are the chances that the poor newbie will be looking where your ship is anyway?

That's true. And no, it's not a big deal. But a man can dream.
I suppose the newbies would be more inclined to say "wtf was that noise?".

I don't really like the new cloaking effect. The random flickering when the ship is fully cloaked is almost seizure inducing (it gives me a headache after awhile).
Everything else about the premium graphics are nice, but the cloaked look of the ships looks wrong like there is a shader bug. Please think of the covops/recon pilots that would like something a bit easier on the eyes.

I fully support a decloaking from front to back change.

Personally I dislike the new cloaking effect,it looks too mechanical,non-immersive in nature. Taking a tip from nature look at Octupi and Chameleons, the effect is organic,ie it starts off with Master points distributed all over the skin and spreads randomly from there to the surrounding cells. Even in films like Star Trek Klingon and Romulan vessels melt into their surrounding, blending gradually to invisibility. The way we had it before was spot on and could have been improved upon in Trinity with some nice graphics, electrical static flowing in rivulets over the ships body, anything would be better than the current cloak, which seems like a step back graphically to me. A second point is when the ship is cloaked, the overall effect is excellent, but the slow pulsing is hard on the eyes, additionally I lose the ship as for part of its phase its nowhere to be seen,(could prove a problem in battles). Apart from that nice job on the new engine CCP.

Quotin' a post I completely agree with.
EDIT: Actually, the current cloaking effect, retooled to have a less hard edge would be great to keep for jumping through stargates and cynos though. It's always bothered me the effects are the same.

I myself think actualy that the new cloaking efect is pretty cool. Yeah it may not look so "organic" like the old one but thats Ok with me for a futuristic spaceship. When it flows from fore to the aft of the ship it feels like the ship croses over a treshold to an alternate dimension of sort and dissapears.
Thats not the case with the decloak and here I agree with the others that it also should start from front end. Elseways it looks not like sthe ship is leaving its alternate dimention head first but rather that something catches up with it and decloaks it. Prety irritating and annoying.

Yup,I agree the cloak the way it is now would make sense when jumping through gates-jump portals, but the old way for Cynos. I'm just stumped as to why with this super-max new graphics system we just get a simple wipe effect? Unless its tied into their need for speed

Another vote for front to back decloaking.
