OK I logged in this morning to start a new skill training and found a 3rd char had been created on my account "theProphet" fisrt thing I did was log in my main too see if everything was still there which it was I then logged out and logged this new char in because it was training a skill note:I changed my password right away the second i logged in this char i was immiedatly convod by a player named blue Dog i was stupid and immideatly asked him if he had spoken to me before and told him what happened at this point this "blue dog" logged off with out another word i poked around the char and found out that it had been paid isk by another player and joined this players corp all in under 2 hours from creation time red dog and the CEO Striader now things get weird I log this prophet char off and check the boards to see if this is some weird glitch after about 5 mins of this I log back in to find out the char is set to be deleted in 5 hours so im kinda perplexed here and the petition options dont seems to cover something like so because i think i either got hacked by some real gimps or my account is cross linked with someone elses and i really dont feel like waiting 7 days for the "other" email petition to be answered with the standard "delete your cache" solve every problem solution
so if anyone is having this problem as well or if a real ccp employee can check into this it would be appreciated

Erm - you SURE you dont have any trojans? How are you checking for them... just an Anti-Virus package or something else?

Man you got hacked. Seems to be happening more and more often.
Get 2-3 different versions of virus scanners and start scanning the whole computer. Besides that also make extremely complex passwords. Even though its not the easiest way to log in its safer.
Make sure you got firewalls inplace and also make sure that you do regular updates for scanning software. Also might want to check out Spybot/Adware for scanning computer also.
If you been compermised once it can happen again and they might not be so nice next time. Fear The Bunny

Darksheer:
Many trojan horse programs are not detected by standard antiviral software. You need to specialize some.
Go to http://www.moosoft.com/thecleaner and download it. Run the update, then run the program. It is trialware that is good for 30 days.
I would also download and run Spybot S&D which you can download here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
Barring that, it may behoove you to format and reinstall your OS, and think about obtaining a firewall.

Check your account information under account management. Make sure the email address listed is actually yours. If it is, also make sure that you change the password for your email account, since if your password is forgotten, it asks you to enter your email address and the password is sent there. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

If you changed your password, and still seemed like someone was using your account, you probably have a Keylogger running on your PC. You can get these from trojan viruses, or from unofficial patch downloads (if you downloaded a patch off a non-official server). If its not a keylogger, then someone has hacked your PC, or found a backdoor.
They have been used endlessly in any game that requires passwords/serial keys... ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

Edited by: GM Arkanon on 08/03/2004 22:12:02 Hi Darksheer.
In cases like this one, the rulebook goes out the window. File a stuck petition immediately and we will get right on the case. I am already looking through your logs to see what I can do. I look forward to hearing from you.
Edit: I have located and banned the person who logged into your account. The fact that the user in question got into your account after you just changed your password strongly suggests that you may have some form of spyware installed on your computer and I want to echo the sentiments of the other players here in that you should take measures to find out how this happened. It was no "crossing" of accounts, that much is sure.
If there was any further damage done to your account, or if you have any further questions, feel free to file that "Stuck" petition and we'll be happy to help you out.
Thanks to the players and Polaris who got here before me, your suggestions were all sensible and helpful.

Heya Darksheer,
I feel real bad for you, and I hope for your sake, EVE is the only thing the hacker messed with. I hope things get back to normal for you soon. Best of luck.
CCP...I sincerely hope that once you figure out how this individual hacked Darksheers account, you try and guard all players from this type of crime.
Should players be routinely changing their passwords? What steps should I take to protect my game from this type attack?
I'm no computer super whiz, so I'm just wondering how feasable it is to impliment some security measures...or strengthen existing ones. I found this story spooky, in how easy it seemed this hacker bent all sorts of "rules" to do whatever he wanted.

The only way i think this could have happen is you have a spyware on your computer to let the person record your keystroke. He/she than log into your account management and changed the email address. Hence, how he could have started the delete process for this character...even though you have changed your pw.
To safe guard against this kind of thing is...use your "common sense" Don't download / install any "illegal" obtained software.
Anti-virus scan once a week and make sure it is updated often.
Personal Firewall...make sure that is running constantly.
Thats all you can do really...

Hi
Stinger is a good program to use for checking for the latest viruses/backdoors and trojans, they update it regularely and it's free.
It is no substitute for a personal firewall and updated antivirus software, but it's a good scanner to run regularely (allways download it and run from there, since they update it as new definitions are needed)
