Before everyone start downloading the new trinity client ( released soon ) we suggest you do the following before doing so.
Update your drivers and install the latest update for DirectX Here are links for you guys to use for your hardware.
Graphic Cards: nVidia ATI
DirectX and Windows: DirectX web installer DirectX End User Runtime ( if the web installer reports everything updated when it isn't ) WindowsUpdate ( fixes a lot of issues for players in many cases )
Soundcards: Soundblaster Realtek SoundMax M-Audio ( Formerly Midiman ) C-Media Hercules nForce
Chipset drivers: SiS Via nForce
After updating your drivers you can run the following utility that detects if your graphics card can indeed run the Premium client
Shader Model 3 checker
Do note that even if you can run the Premium client the rest of your hardware could not be up to the task. Even though the graphics card is the primary hardware here the rest of your hardware needs to be powerful as well. You may suffer hickups which will require you to tone down your graphical settings, the classic client will always be an option for you if you feel the Premium client isn't running as you hoped.
The premium client is now available on SiSi so you can test it out before release.

I can run it on full HDR! This is a great expansion, and it's gonna make some great movies from it. :)

Oh well .. I think i've just hit the bottleneck, since games are pushing into 3.0 shader hardcore now .. It kind of sucks, but I'm glad this card lasted me at solid 3 years (ATi Radeon 9600 256mb AGP 8x). Its unfortunate that these clients can't be merged into one single client, with options within the client to enable / disable or use a lower end pixel shader. However, that would probably just increase the time needed to develop such a tightly knit client 2 fold .. I guess i'll just see if I can save some cash to upgrade..

It killed my laptop. Downloaded premium patch and after installing it earlier today I shut it down. When I got home I turned it on and no my system won't boot, needs hal.dll.
Sigh, and I was looking forward to playing tonight too. I'll have to fix it tomorrow (left all my tools at work).

It did the same thing to my desktop. I downloaded the patch and premium content. It allowd me to log into the game but inside of stations was black with some white specs and the ship was all white. When I undocked the stations and ships (did not attempt to confirm stargates) were white but everything else was normal. I was running a nvidia radeon 6600 graphics card. I tried several relaunches of the game with various settings changes to no imrovement. I then noticed much to my shock and dismay that when I had the new build loaded my dual core CPU was maxing out at 100% on both sides. When I went to reboot the computer I get the boot message missing or corrupt: hal.dll file. At this point the only option for me is to spend the next couple of days after work rebuilding my hard drive. I just hope I can find the backup disks I made last summer. Thanks for the great patch guys.

Don't just do anything drastic yet!
Check these: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184 http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=651433
Seeing that there seem to be some very scary problems with the release, I'll wait until a fix is released.

I confirm the corruption of the hal.dll file. After loading the new client and restarting my computer (note, it happens AFTER restarting your computer once you've downloaded and installed the new client). My hal.dll file corrupted and would not load windows at all (XP). I had to boot from my XP CD, reinstall a second version of XP, copy the hal.dll file from the new OS to the old OS folder, edit the boot.ini file and reboot with my fingers crossed that it would work again. It did. I found the info here: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about6705.html
Good luck and may the dork be with you

Runs great, after installing the full new client (including new content) on Vista 64bit Premium.
But having HDR enabled, the AA (Anti-Alias) is not working. Solution to go around that problem?
cheers...

so that does seem to be the problem i have, on my laptop i have a Quadro FX go1400 and if i docked all seems fine, but if i try and undock the stations ships and everything are white, except when i went to a belt which seemed to work.
could my issue be that it just need to cache everything and it hasnt done so?
i hope because i really dont want to buy a new laptop or a new desktop to play.

Edited by: Aecilon on 06/12/2007 10:46:35 I've updated all my drivers but I'm still not able to display the Premium Graphics Content. I have a VIA K8T800 chipset, a GeForce 7800GS and have DirectX9.0C installed. Despite this the SM3checker says my graphics card doesn't support Shader Model 3 and my Eve Online client says my PC does not support the content. Everywhere I've looked I've read that the 7800GS does support Shader Model 3.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

I'm running vista 32bit with a GForce 7600 512Mb. Running the premium content worked fine in dock, but undocking resulted in a game crash with error: CCP exe file has stopped running.
And my hopes were so high that it would be a flawless patch

I've looked in so many places and they all say my graphics card supports shader 3. Heck, I even still have the box sitting beside me and it says support for shader 3. The only thing that says it doesn't support it is CCP's SM3Checker. I've installed the classic to premium client and then uninstalled that and installed the full premium client but still can't display the new content. I guess I'll have to wait until CCP notices this issue and fixes it.

Here's a silly idea.
If any of these "fixes" are intended to solve problems before downloading Trinity or the premium graphics package ... how about mentioning a link to this topic on the GUI somewhere with a little warning, etc.?
... Since my gaming comp is currently dead, I wouldn't know if these links might solve the issue about Windows XP not being able to restart after downloading the premium graphics, but ... I really hope that bug gets addressed asap...
[HINT: If your gaming computer uses Windows XP, wait to download premium graphics. I would recommend you do not DL unless you have your original Windows XP reboot disk in hand (unless a good fix is announced, ofc).]

However my roomate did the same upgrade at the same time and got the boot.ini error

The game started out with major Graphical problems which made Eve unplayable. After a full day of tinkering I got the graphics to work properly. But the game is still really laggy and the market doesnt even open for me anymore. Fortuneately, I was for whatever reason immune to the delete boot.ini thing. But Eve is still unplayable and theres nothing wrong with my computer Plus i get logged out of ur website every couple minutes.

I have, XP-SP2, 2GB Ram, 7300 Go graphics card and AMD x2 1.8GHz processor. Last night I tried running premium and everytime i undocked and went to warp the client would crash with no error message. I tried various settings, with/without sound, hdr, bloom, different resoluctions ect updated all drivers ect to no effect so I turned off the premium content and it didn't crash once. I turned it back on today with no shadows, hdr and low bloom and 1280x1024 (native is 1440x900) resolution and managed to jump 2 systems and dock without crashing. I'm going to stick to high sectors till I'm sure that this is stable but it could possibly be the shadowing causing issues... on this graphics card anyway.

hope this helps find the problem.
p.s new graphics are very nice :) makes my pc think a bit hahaha

Loaded Trinity, game worked fine!
Upgraded to latest ATI Drivers (drivers, catalyst etc) and black screen'o'death .. nothing locked windows up hardcore, had to sit there with task manager open and wait to catch a clock cycle and end eve. Note: I had not downloaded the premium package - still the clasic package!
Ended up having to find original video card DVD and reloading old drivers . eve works but I am bummed looks like no new graphics for me.
My system: AMD Athlon XP+ 3200 @ 2.19 ghz CPU 1.5 gig Ram ATI Radeon X850XT 8x AGP (256 mb graphics card)
Anyone have any idea how I can get that to run the newest graphics package?

Hey Eve team! When will these problems be resolved? I have a laptop w/ ati radeon 9700 128 Meg, 2 megs of ram, 3.2 pent. The classic version works great, but after this so-called upgrade. It seems only the latest pc's with top of the line hardware/software or heavily modified pc's will work with Trinity!
Eve you let us down!
Damn you!

Edited by: Xander Deathstalker on 11/12/2007 16:14:56 Lol 9700 is many years out of date dude and well it may be able to run it... but then again it might not depending on your other pc specs, sorry to say, any pc from the last 2 years (discounting the ones which should have not been sold by then) will run it happily but the new update is not for old pc's its an update for now and in the future so that eve doesnt fall majorly out of date 5 years without a graphics engine update is why its released however trinity still adss many ships and other features and the classic client still works nicely for folks with more archaic pc's, there are teething problems and some lag issues, which need to be fixed, a 9700 is a nice graphics card tis true, but its also an old graphic card by now if your stuck on AGP get yourself a NVIDIA 7950 GT 512mb to bring yourself up to date, but blaming ccp because your pc is out of date just isnt fair and 3 years out of date in the games industry does not put folks with newer pc's into a minority , waiting longer for a graphics update would not have been fair on folks who do have pc's made in the last 2 years, well frankly most 3 year old pc's will run it... just not with stellar performance, you want shiny new graphics and your pc runs on mice in a treadwheel you'll need to upgrade to shiny new hardware, if not eve classic still works just fine :), ye cant get everything for nothing.
Ok a 9700 with 128mb ram ... nice but out of date by now, a 3.2Ghz Pentium.... uck... enough said on the processor I have a laptop with the same graphics but it has a 1.7 Ghz Centrino ... damn glad I picked that route, 2GB ram.... if ye really cant afford a new one have you considered a hard drive update, laptops released in that era often had slow hard drives, upgrading to a new 120GB hdd would be cheap and probably increase performance considerably in games with lots of loading, but ... 9700 with 128mb is about the bare minimum ye can run Trinity in i'd guess so ye really need a new one and its never going to be the ultimate performer, welcome to the pc industry, a nice pc is within a few years and old banger.

ok, when I try and start Eve classic all I get is the front picture and then the game pretty much locks up while loading.
My computer: Operating system: Windows XP Home w/SP2, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0 GHz 1.00 GB RAM Radeon 9500 with most current driver I have my firewall fixed to allow EVE to play through
I belive I meet the minimal requirments to play EVE classic, Any suggestions?
Used to play old Eve with no problum... Now that I've returned I can't play crap...and I bought 4 months play time...
