Edited by: Andrue on 24/11/2007 09:32:43 Edited by: Andrue on 24/11/2007 09:31:14 I just tried to run the Sisi client on my laptop and I get told that it can't find D3DX? The current tranquility client runs fine. What version of D3DX is it looking for?
Edit:It looks like a case of lazy or careless programming. The client won't run if you're logged in as a limited user. Please assume that a deep frown has been directed at the developer responsible followed by raised eyebrows.
I assume this silliness will be addressed before you roll it out?
NB:The fact so many people appear unaware of this issue confirms the frightening fact of how many people run Windows as administrators. Scary. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

It gives you and every program you launch complete control over your computer. Two specific concerns are that it allows web sites to install anything they want on your computer and allows any application to modify the contents of your Program Files\ folder.
To be even more specific:I can implement a web site such that when viewed by you deletes the contents of Program Files\. Or installs a keylogger. All without asking you. Try the same thing in reverse and I get a rude dialog box telling me I don't have the rights to do that.
It can be inconvenient having to log in as administrator when I want to install something but at least it means I have to choose when that happens. It reminds me of the consequences.
Encouraging/allowing everyone to run as Administrator (or run as a user with administration rights which is the real issue) is probably one of the main reasons why Windows has such a poor security reputation.

It's just because you didn't upgrade your DX under administrator that you get this problem, it seems. I'm running EvE on a limited account and do not have any problem at all. ____________________________________ A gift for pirates |

Hmmm. I might try it on my desktop then. This laptop is running Windows Media edition and I've had oddities with the security before. I don't know that DX has been upgraded at all recently. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
