I don't think handing ownership of all wrecks in the game over to one person would be productive. -

CCP has mentioned that they had this feature before, but people abused it by baiting others into salvaging wrecks that the owners had absolutely no intention of salvaging themselves. CCP's standing policy is: if you don't salvage it, everyone else should have the right to salvage it instead. ---

i wouldn't mind if there was an hour timer on wrecks then they where fair game but give us a chance to loot our own wrecks
ment slavage my own wrecks that i have killed.

Rest assured that CCP is working on this problem, and they do recognize it as a problem. I'm sure they'll come up with a solution in the future. And if not, you can look back on this post and laugh at me. ---

I don't think anyone will laugh at people for being concerned about this. But if CCP makes the game so totally safe that no one could ever take your wreck, your loot, your stuff, your ship .....then the only people that will ever play will be brain dead care bears. |

I vote against this petition because it is poorly thought out and there is not actually a problem with the current system.

Wrecks are not yours. Salvage rights belong to the first person to salvage.
And do you really want to appear on someone's killrights list over a couple of charred circuits? especially when they've already proved they can find your mission deadspaces? --

So, let me get this straight (I'm weeally wweaaally confuszdled).
So, you want to shoot a thief? Good. That's very good. Do you know what you're really saying though?
You're saying this: I bet my <insert carebear-pve fit mission ship here> can take your <insert ganking-pvp-ship-here>.
You see, you'll surely kill that 50k T1 frigate that's salvaging your wrecks. And then you'll dock for 15 minutes while the aggro timer runs out - or you'll be BBQ'd by their uber gankage of doom.
So what you're really really asking for is to shoot a fully insured 100k ISK t1 frigate so that you can lose a battleship *AND STILL* not salvage your whole mission?
Got it. Sure, I'll take it.

That's exactly how looting works, and, we don't see so many people stealing the loot, don't we ?
I'd love to see salvaging work as looting does. Both for the piracy aspect and the mission aspect. But the solution I'd prefer is to make salvaging into a real profession.
That means : - salvage "owned" by the people that killed it for 1 hour (maybe more, maybe less), - salvage stay in space for much longer than now (12 hours sounds fine to me), - salvage can be probed.
That'll be eve, because there would be possibilities and opportunities. The current system sucks, because it's completely one-sided in favor of the salvager, which makes it boring.

You made a very good point there. People are not really realizing what they are asking for.
It's a repeat of the "make ore thieves get flagged" complaints. Miners thought the flagging system would stop thieves, but they just started coming in battleships instead of haulers. Nowadays miners are worse off than they were before the change, unless they bring lots of protection.

i think that the owner of the wreck should be the killer, however i dont think this holds true to salvaging, or perhaps some sort of wreck timer so it only causes agro if done within say 10 minutes, shown on screen by can colour (perhaps red for a flagable wreck)
This way people wont get caught out, and it means legit salvagers get the chance to do it themselves (and same for pvp'ers)

The wrecks of the ships you kill aren't yours. They belong to the original owner of the ship (just like if I suicide gank you in high sec, the wreck belongs to you). Therefore, it does not flag the salvager to the person who killed the ship. If I take the stuff from the wreck, I'm stealing from the owner of the ship and flagged to them - and their escort can take me out.
But if you want to change this, it's fine. I mean, I kill someone in high-sec, someone tries to take something from the wreck, I kill them too with my alt, cloak, wait for the next victim, kill them and so on and so on. I can only imagine how many people I could kill in a highsec gate with this method! This makes suiciding haulers much more easy too; I kill a ship, the wreck is mine, the escort scoops up the remains, rest of my gang jumps in and decimates them. Without concord or sentries interfering. In high sec.
So, no. You don't want this.

This!
You can't really equate the Salvager occupation to say the Miner occupation in Eve. Salvaging is so inaccessible in comparison to mining that it's really not surprising that many people assume that "salvage from my mission = MINE!". What else could it be? You have to probe down their little section of space and come "steal" their wrecks. At least that's how many seem to perceive the situation.
I was really disapointed with the implementation of salvaging. I remember, prior to rev1, many people talking about wanting to be professional salvagers. Well, OP... I guess you met one.
If anything that guy should be commended for sticking with such a pain in the ass occupation. It *****s me up that lazy mission runners whine so much about them.
If anything, salvaging as a profession needs a buff. Whiney hooha's complaining about their wrecks being "stolen" need a nerf.
