I had a funny thought this morning. I thought about CCP has been saying that they want to reduce Blob warfare and break it up into smaller groups.
Then I considered what they are saying now "cap ships should have support fleets", "logistics should require huge freighter ops" etc.
Then after that I considered all the content they are releasing and the massive changes they are making to everything.
HICs will increase the need for bigger support fleets around MoM's because they are such hard boats to *****.
EWAR changes and scripts will force people to have bigger gangs to have the same affects the did pre trinity.
The Carrier nerf will force more hauler convoy's and them having huge support fleets as well.
I'm sure if I thought about it some more I come up with other examples.
But all this leads up to CCP saying one thing and doing exactly the oppisite...

I think that the changes you list don't so much encourage "blobbing", as the concept that you try to bring as many ships as you can. Instead they just encourage more organized and diverse fleets, which is a good thing. Both before and after these changes, the more ships the better. These changes aren't making that any more true.
Even if they do result in larger fleets, game balance > game lag, unfortunately. --- Proud Amarr pilot.

i hope the code is effecient enough to be able to handle "blobs" in trinity. :|
otherwise im afraid, tactical issues aside, we'll need supercomputer clusters for those pos sieges :|

Isn't that CCP's next step? Being the first company with a supercomputer to run a game service?
Anyway, we already play on a server cluster that is one of the bests in the world... Code will save us maybe... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

I remember, it was like 2 years ago, some dev (called TomB o/) wrote a dev blog about missions and the lots of npc ccp wanted to reduce in order to fix lag. That was like ages ago, and now do a lvl 4 mission (best place to do saila ...) and enjoy the turkeyshot \o/ Not so long ago, some random dev had a (in his opinion) wonderful idea to reduce blob warefare. CCP added a new module to POS, the wonderful incredible Cyno jammer ****thingy \o/. Now decide u want to take system XY with ur ally and enjoy the BS blob in order to fight the Cyno jammer at a hostile shredder pos and the hostile blob.
Now, CCP has decided "omfg we gonna get a supercomputerthingy!!!111elevenoneone it will solve all our problems! \o/". Now lets see what will happen after the supercomputerthingy runs. Jita will house 5k alts on sunday evenings, saila, motsu and that other lagcapital will house 500 mission runners, and the 20k new customers will jump on the forums and start epic whining \o/.
What this game needs isn't (just?!) moar powah ! It actually needs design changes like a new souvereignity system which isnt promoting blob warfare like the current one ( i know, its hard to find something which works and wouldnt promote blobbing. Only idea i had would have something to do with planetary interaction and thats like ages away ...). Design changes to agent distribution (not just omg all lvl4s to low sec), changes in the risk vs reward system ( 0.0 and low sec are basicly just epic fails in current game design) and so much more.
Clever design changes > more and better hardware
