Neither, the loser would just warp out since the battle would take place outside Warp scram range. ___________

when the 'loser' warps out the otherone must be the winner, who would that be?
aside from that i was thinking of the battle taking place ~ 15 - 20 km. thats range for antimatter with rails at last (dunno about artys).

Ok, let me put it this way. There's no point in winning if you don't kill them. A good blaster astarte would probebly outmatch them both in most situations. ___________

damagewise yes, but a blaster astrate would not get close to the sleipnir.

??? Outside of that there's too many factors which he left unanswered. Like what kind situation it would be used in. Personally I think it's probebly a lack of details problem more then anything else. ___________

Given a perfect Sliepnir V Astarte battle I gave you your answer. However it's doubt there's going to be a perfect Sliepnir V Astarte battle. Too many other factors.
Ok, i must say im not a fan of just typing one word, but i just couldnt be arsed here, sorry. Yes a blasterastarte deals a lot of dps, but if you fly a longrange vessel, especially the sleipnir it may not be a bad idea to nano it up a bit. Not extreme, but just some extra speed to give it more of a cruiser feeling instead of BC/BS feeling and so you can use your range advantage even when things start to go wrong.
I think you very much underrate the sleipnir in AC mode and astarte in blastermode i put my money on the sleipnir. Sleipnir is also better in gangs, because it has more range and more speed so i can put the damage on the target sooner. That said, why the **** am i comparing 2 ships that a clever person would never fly solo.
/edit: ow yeh, cause the op made the rediculous comparison. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Why would the Sleipnir use artillery at 15-20km, when it's fall off bonus allows it to use autocannons at that range with great effectiveness?

Well you know... to stay in disrupterrange with your 1 vs 1 longrange setup commands. _________________________________________________ Breetime

IQ too low to imagine a theoretical situation and derive various insights from it? something to compensate for with your ironical comments? maybe lack of RL? lol

Ok the fight. Fight occures @ 15-20 km. Sleip and astarte start hammering, sleip does the ZOOM ZOOM thing and is @ his optimal+falloff range for his howi. Tanks the astarte and wtfpwns him, astarte warps out.
The personal attack made me lol though. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Reason why i hate theoritical fights is because most people counter out human error (that factor that gets you killed most of the time) and its a source for a lot of whining. Real enviroments are very different. _________________________________________________ Breetime

quite simple
if both of them wount jump out then sleip would win.. sleip can have a hell of a tank and artys on it but astarte cant have both + 250mm rails eat cap like theres no tomorrow :P (i have flow a rail astarte in combat quite abit :D)
astarte can do lots of dps but sleip would out last astarte.
astarte is great for blasters tho :) and so is the sleip whit AC :)

I'd say the answer would be nobody dies but the warper would probably be the astarte.
Now if you pitted a blaster astarte or autocannon sleip up against either of the two it WILL win, usually with the other guy warping before they get into range but meh.

It's almost like asking what's faster, a Lamborghini or a Ferrari?
Both are fast car manufacturers so what's the point of the question as they'll both do 200 mph. Well if you want to nit pick you could say the Ferrari has got a built in CD player
Comes down to player skill at the end of the day.

Astarte is better for long range. Better tracking, better optimal, more DPS. -

i bet on astarte.
If nobody warps out, then astarte is a winner..one tracking disruptor and speedy sleip wont hit a ****..
while sleip does shield tank, he cannot have any ewar mods in mids, and lows are used for speed.
Astarte has good tracking, with mids to even more enhance the tracking. and has larger drone bay, which would add some more dps..or more waves of warrior II/hobgoblins II
but in the end, it all comes down to fitting. If both are fitted for omni tank, casual PvP, then astarte wins. If sleip knows, that he is gonna fight astarte, then there is really no question..

It doesn't matter, cause if you fit arty or rails to your sleip/astarte, you fail anyway. _______ shigs |

Rails vs artys probably no one would win, unless both anchor their ships at 15-20km. That said, it depends on fittings, now blaster vs ac's I put my isk on the astarte, I fly both and seriously Astarte has a mean tank, sleipnir has good tank, but web, scram, injector and mwd on a pvp setup and how many slots left for tanking? Astarte can give 6 low slots to tank and use dual mar II with the pump rigs.
I can be biased as I always fly sleipnir with 3 gyro's, so mega's, astartes scare me.
