Was happily doing earlier parts of this mission until the last one. The objective is to destroy the gate. I got a bunch of ships and sentries aggro you at the warp-in. Tank started falling apart, so I warped out and went to station to fit different hardeners. I returned to find even more ships waiting for me there. Killed a couple of battleships, tank failed and I warped. I returned only to find even more ships. Tank failed miserably in seconds. I had enough time to kill only one cruiser, then warped. It looks like if I return, I'll find there even more rats waiting and just one pathetic scrambling frig would be enough to lose the ship.
I use apoc, fully T2 fitted, had 2x Expl II, Therm II and Kin II hardeners and still it wasn't even close to being enough. What the hell should I use there? It looks anything smaller than a carrier will get annihilated by the rats.

Heh. It's entirely possible of course, but if you have to face all of them at once it's tough. Solo probably impossible with T2, without jumping, killing one thing and jumping out.
You can let the mission reset after DT, and when you warp in next time, start moving away from the gate you're supposed to destroy. 80-120km works great. That gives you time to react and kill the waves as they come in.
Another thing is that some of the rats are best killed with therm, but many of them want explosive, and are pretty tough to do with therm. EM resist is high on all of them, afaik, at least the standard 60% on armor, but some have high shield EM resist as well. The Darkanas especially, since they shield tank and have 80% EM resist shields (60% armor).

This is a very doable mission, but you have to be smart when picking your targets.
Most people have problems with this mission, because they fit out their ships after accepting the mission. With this mission the timer starts as soon as you accept. So have your fitted out prior to accepting.
All of the rats can be killed with thermal ammo (cruise or torps), however, be aware that the Daktana (Minnie uber Tempest), will spam lots of EM torps, and can be killed with explosive ammo.
So tank up for thermal x1-2/EM x1-2/kinetic.
So the trick is from the above, get to the mission site as quick as possible, move away from the smuggler gate, then kill as many ships as possible, watch local for the info when the next group is going to jump in and target the Daktanas a priorities to kill ASAP, or else you will die.
I now run this in my CNR with torps, but I did this easily in a plain Raven with T2 mods.

I think missions starts like all missions start, when you initiate warp to the mission location.
Freedom liberty also has 62% Therm resist, and only 50% Explosive on armor, and it armor tanks.

Here is your problem. Apart from the Apoc being a crap ship by default, it is even worse in this mission. Bad base resists against the NPCs damage, bad damage types against the NPCs resists. With a tanked Apoc you prolly don't make much of a dent in Darkana shields at all.
In a pimp CNR this mission is actually a cakewalk, and it should be doable in other long range gank fitted ships that deal therm/kin (and/or exp for Darkanas) damage too. Shieldtanking them helps a lot too since you have much better base resists against their damage.
If you can only fly Amarr you are in trouble though. Best bet would be to take a friend along that can deal the correct damages.

yes, get yourself a raven, with thermal /kin dam and tanking all damg types, and a friend to support you with shield tranfere and you will make this mission.
Personally I believe this is one of the hardest lvl 4 missions

It looks I'm pretty screwed with apoc. I think I'll just decline the mission and hope that the next one won't be Raven only. Quite frustrating to invest loads of time and skillpoints in Amarr ships to find out that they are crap at PvE and average at best in PvP, but it's another story.

Not crap at PvE, just crap against Angels/Minmatar. Mediocre against Guri/Serp. Great against Sansha/Blood/Amarr, good against Drones and Mercs.
If it makes you feel better, know that after getting both the Raven and Domi to pretty decent performance, I'll train up for Abaddon/Armageddon and use them in some missions, because they will be better at certain rats then any other ship.
Mayb even the new Nightmare, if it's bonuses stand and I get filthy rich someday. I don't think I'll ever use the Apoc though.

I did it with a decently fitted abaddon with low SP. I had to refit for beams to drop darakana's quick and have good range (no T2 pulses yet).
The main thing is just not to fall behind the respawn, if u do you are screwed

Yes , i solo'd that in RS , but it is faction fitted .
But i seriously think a T2 (entirely) Raven with a perma-boost tank can do it solo .
The key is balancing your resists and you have to keep moving at all times , at full speed .
G/L !

Edited by: Levka on 07/11/2007 04:29:57 Abaddon, T2 fitted. Done without warping out, need decent skills though.
I'm sure i kill stuff faster in abaddon then you do with your ravens/cnrs.
Maybe not, but still very fast. Signature removed - please email us to find out why - include the URL please - Jacques([email protected]) |

Edited by: Jason Edwards on 07/11/2007 05:30:30 There's 2 things you require for this mission to be even remotely plausible.
First very decent dps. You can't be right at the bare minimum for lvl 4s where it takes you 10 minutes to kill any battleship. Essentially every 5 minutes or something irregardless that you are even there or not for the mission... more spawn. You basically have to be there killing the first spawn far before the second spawn ever arrives.
Second... you have to fly your ass out of dodge as soon as you get too dodge. Look at the gate and start flying in the opposite direction. Fast as you can.
You can't leave and you can't stop killing. Now the problem I have is that my drones take say 10-15 seconds to travel inbetween targets. Which is what really hurt me when I did this mission. The even funnier thing is that I killed the first spawn no problem. Got the second spawn and started having trouble killing the darkanas(wrong dmg type drones i guess) and than the 3rd spawn came on me. I warped off. When I went back in THE REST had spawned. My god my poor domi nearly died bigtime. My dual rep domi can tank minimatar like this at around 900-1000dps. My reps I believe only got 2 cycles before I was in structure. So the dps they are putting out was well over 2000dps. Which I'd say pretty much only a carrier or large could ever attempt at tanking. Even if you went the whole super expensive large armor repairer x2.. you ALMOST might ***** 1500-2000 dps. Which I suspect still wouldn't be enough.
I swear this mission should be tweaked to perhaps make it higher dps but the next spawn will only occur when the previous entire spawn has been destroyed. OR at key points in the amount of HP the gate has left. Which such code already exists in the game... take the gardens in damsel in distress. You kill like 50% of the shields and some guys spawn. You get to structure and zor shows up. It'd be pretty easy to make it exactly the same way for this mission. That way people dont have to bug up the mission just so they could complete it. Or that it also means that people who are new to the mission don't get crunched by the mission.
That is... go in your shuttle(and die quick obviously) pod your way to like 100km from the gate and bookmark. Tommorrow after downtime it'll reset and you can warp in to that bookmark and the mission will spawn 100km from you. Among a number of other ways to complete this mission with little cheats.

mission is easy to complete by just blowing up the stargate from the getgo, that being said its the hardest mission ingame (I havent tried lvl 5's) I have ever done if you want to kill everything, good skills and a half gank half passive tank nighthawk I cant break a single darkanas tank with any kind of speed, were talking 2 reloads atleast.
not to mention I usually have alot of cruisers and frigs shooting me still when the darkanas spawn.
its a shame too as this mission pays decently in tags. May retry this solo when the marauders come out if I train the golem, otherwise I just dont accept this mission when it gets to it and move on to the next.

Shardrael. The whole point in the mission is getting the tags I think... the value in the mission itself isnt worth doing for the faction hit you take to even get to that point. A significant part of pretty much all of amarr tag trade ins are with republic fleet tags. Just blowing up the stargate completely defeats the purpose...
as for the darkanas.. i do believe they say you should use explosive missles to kill them.

Edited by: Xequecal on 07/11/2007 11:14:46 Edited by: Xequecal on 07/11/2007 11:14:11 I did this mission in a Navyapoc. Went like this:
1. Came in with Scorch loaded, and popped the Ruptures first as they're long range. Orbited gate at 45km and started shooting it.
2. While shooting at the gate, eventually the Republic Fleet Tempest and Republic Fleet Typhoon will fly in close to you. When they both got within 15km, I stopped firing at the gate and switched in Amarr Navy MF to kill them and the 20km orbiting Ruptures.
3. At some point while shooting the battleships in step 2, wave 2 spawns. Wave 2 is a Darkana and three cruisers. I sicced my drones on one cruiser after the other and ignored the Darkana. Finished off the Tempest and Typhoon from step 2, put Scorch back in and just kept shooting the gate through this entire wave.
4. After shooting gate for awhile, wave 3 spawns. This is a Tempest, two Typhoons, and a bunch of D-1 frigates. However, since I'm orbiting the gate at 45-50km and these rat BSes use autocannons, all I'm getting hit by is their cruise missiles. Easy to tank for now. I sic my drones on the D-1 frigates and keep shooting the gate.
5. After more gate shooting, wave 4 spawns. Three Freedom Liberties and three Freedom Patriots. The Freedom Liberties again start out 45km away from me since I'm orbiting the gate at that distance, out of gun range. They do start shooting missiles at me. My tank begins to break here, as the Darkana from wave 2 is still around, the wave 3 BSes have managed to get in close and start using their guns, and now I'm taking missiles from the Patriots.
6. I ignore all ships and keep shooting the gate. My ship gets to about 50% armor before the gate blows up. All the D-1s are dead, which means no scrambling, so I just warp out and turn the mission in.
