Hey everyone. I've got a question for you. Normally, I am a low sec pirate, but things are very slow. Today is crappy weather outside and I don't really have anything to do, so I wanted to give 0.0 a shot.
The nearest 0.0 is pretty damn far from where I am right now, and I don't want to waste the whole travel time. I will be heading out there with a jaguar using ACs and setup for solo pvp. Now, here is my question:
Are there more targets for soloing/ransoming in 0.0 than low sec? Or will I just be running into gangs of people looking to have my ******* on a stick?
Apologies for the noob feel of the thread, as I can assure you I am no noob.. but I have always been afraid of 0.0. My first trip there, I walked into a gate camp on the first jump. Made it out, but was chased for like 9 systems.

Yes, there are more targets in 0.0, and more places to shoot them. A hell of a lot more belt piracy to be had, and with bigger reward.
No, you won't always get blobbed. You have to be smarter soloing in 0.0 though since bubbles and dictors are used. So unlike low sec, you can't just warp gate to gate. Be smart, use the map, and if you're not solo, use a scout.
If you're going to solo in 0.0, use a fast ship. Don't just go system to system in a BS or a myr like many low sec pirates do. It doesn't work the same.
Anyone who claims that if you go into 0.0, "you'll be gate camped everywhere", "you'll be blobbed no matter what", or anything else is either ignorant, or was stupid and got caught too many times and now has a bad taste in their mouth.
Some people just can't handle it and need to stick to low sec where theres a greater chance of escape or not being caught in the first place.
Personally, I have nothing against low sec piracy. I still come back once in a while, but the amount of targets in low sec doesn't compare, and I'm not one for ganking haulers and noob ships as they come into systems. That and most of the targets you do find in belts in low sec are just nubs that don't know any better. Thats no challenge. The loot you get off 0.0 players is usually a lot better than low sec as well.
Give it a go, but don't give up if you do get caught by a gate camp or lose a ship. It doesn't mean it's always going to happen.
Good luck.

Pretty sure I'll be able to get by gate camps in a nano'd jaguar.. but at least someone confirmed that there are indeed more targets, which is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the replies!

Covops and inties bite it often enough, I wouldnt count on getting away. course usually the only systems that get camped are the chokepoints near empire. Once you're past those, you're pretty safe.
Don't be a fool and sit in one spot. Move after being spotted, even if you don't get a kill. This reduces blob rate.

Dont lisen to these ney sayers. 0.0 piracy...
*As i was writing this i ran straight into an Abnormal Gentleman 32 man Blob in my Ishkur but i got away so i can give this advice with a clear concience*
Can be extreamly profitable but you need to know an area. Granted you will get blobbed everynow and again but if you know an area well enough you can ussualy stear clear of their hunting grounds.
For me 0.0 is infinatly preferable to low sec, more targets, more varried targets. And tho in 0.0 you get super blobs and dictors on the whole i see 0.0 as less blobby than low sec. In 0.0 prehaps 20% of solo pvpers you meet will have a blob nearby. In low sec that figure is more like 80% in my experience.
Plus if you grow tired of pew pew you can hop in annother ship and do some ratting :)
0.0 piracy can be great and not too unsafe if you use some nous and area knowledge. And if you do try it log on right after dt and go roaming. Post DT 0.0 hauler traffic ftw :)

0.0 piracy is extremely difficult. I mostly attribute this to the fact that most people in 0.0 are flying combat ships that are Tech II and Tech II fitted, not to mention they are likely to have a blob within a few jumps to call. It can be fun, but expect losses and honest to God the interdictor bubbles just kill it for me.
You might like it, so give it a go; but for God's sake get in a clone without implants .
What I say here... does not reflect on my corp or alliance. |

I prefer roaming and killing in 0.0, my reasons.
The targets have better fittings on avg. So better mods for the taking.
Haulers tend to have more valuable loot, but could be a pain getting the loot out
I find the most effective way to fly in 0.0 is to nano up, slow ships tend to die really fast in 0.0.
So stay fast and you will be fine.

Just go to 0.0 with a fast ship (3k at least). Take an nano ishtar or a vaga and you ll be ok.
Im not sure your jaguar is enough or take a friend with you. Blobs are slow you have nothing to fear.

You'll _maybe_ get a couple of kills, and if you're good enough (if you annoy them enough) they'll organize and hunt you down. So count on several kills (unless you're hunting in a warzone) before YOU start being hunted. If you're in a warzone you're as good as dead.
Ant trust me ppl roaming in 0.0 are infinitely more skilled, better equipped and better organized.

Most skilled pilots who roam 0.0 come from low sec.

um than who exactly?
generaly speaking most pirates specialize in small gang roving tactics, where as stereo-typically 0.0 entities have large gangs or they blob.
disclaimer:yep I know I prolly just opened the flood gates there...../me waits for the inevitable "real men pvp in 0.0" line
"Where are you guys going in your battleships?" "We are going to camp in Amamake; kill 500 carebears and 1 NPC" "Why are you gonna kill an NPC?" "See, nobody cares about the carebears!" [BEES] |

Edited by: AntonioBanderas on 22/10/2007 09:13:33 i agree, but no amount of skill will get you out of organized blob. and he WILL get blobbed as soon as he starts scoring some good kills. Unless he finds some crappy badly run alliance... But that's another story
edit: so yes, go to 0.0, you'll have fun, but wear nanos and take some friends

In my experience solo pvpers in 0.0 are not any more or less skilled than low sec pvpers. All the stuff about real pvpers being in 0.0 seams to be alot of rubish.
I made quite a tidy living killing solo dictor pilots in my Ishkur :) You inevitably meet alot of FOTM pilots (Most solo ships you will meet *will* be Sabres or Vagabonds.
However ships tend to be well fitted so good loot, haulers tend to have v good loot (Say goodbye to isk farming haulers which you may or may not be used to in lowsec). Its hard to get them but when you do you get a phat pay off. A friend of mine once caught a mod and BP haul for an enemy corp, profitted about 1.5 bil of rigs, 2 bil of Mods and prehaps 5 bil of BPs :) Needless to say you can hit the jackpot.
And as people have eluded to you need to stay moving, if you stay in a system for more than 15 mins or so you are almost bound to find a gank squad on your tail. Though you will occasionaly find idiotic ratters in belts most pvp you get will be catching things on gates.

This ^^
Take a fast ship, and try to go to a nice NPC region like Curse or Stain or something, imo they're the best compromise between no-blobby Low Sec and no-sentry-more-targetty 0.0. Have fun.

There are a lot more targets yes, but you will need a ship that can take down a npc'ng BS quickly before he calls for his mates.
Ratters in 0.0 are going to be in at least a Drake, or a Myrm with the ability to tank a triple BS spawn with ease...so you will need more dps than a Jag
The best targets are in alliance held space, thats why they rat there..they feel safe and can call for back up.
One of best ships for roaming in 0.0 is the speed ishtar. It has the dps to easily kill a BS, plus the speed to run from the blob. Vaga is your friend as well.
Alliances have good intel networks, so once you have engaged a target...expect to see a covert..closely followed by a gank squad with your name on it
Key is..hit and run, then move away from that system, find another target...hit and run etc. If you sit still...you WILL get blobbed and bubbled
I, erm, like kill things and stuff |

Figured you guys might want an update!
I made it to 0.0, no hitches... found a Raven t2 fitted ratting. My stupid arty wolf couldn't get his tank down. He started to go back to ratting once he realized I wasn't any real threat.
I decided to pack it up and go home, and come back in a cruiser when I get t2 med guns.
On the way out, I ran into an interdictor that gunned me down. *sob*
