Er, Q4 ended September 20th. The fiscal year runs from October 1st to September 30th, I would certainly hope that we don't have to wait until next summer for Rev. III I would say late Q1/early Q2 sounds about right giving CCPs (and the gaming industry in general) ability to meet a deadline

People always say, 'oh ccp take your time to get it right, it doesn't matter if you guys are releasing stuff late', I say balls to that!, lets release something on time for a change , besides you will have plenty of time to release numerous patches to fix stuff anyways.

So when Revelations III becomes Trinity, is EVE going to be renamed to Revelations and current Trinity to EVE?

Yes, I suspected ever so slightly that this would cause confusion Not my fault!
There is only one expansion (1, einn, un, ein, uno; Wrangler is now going to hit me with the "English-only hammer").
It was codenamed "Kali3" and would have been named Revelations III except that we were unable to conclude factional warfare this time around.
So it was renamed to EVE Online: Trinity in reference to the graphics and art update that is the core of this expansion.
Winter starts in Iceland on 27 Oct this year. First day of summer is 24 Apr 2008, so the press release doesn't pin us down but we're still aiming for a Nov release as previously stated.

You have to remember though that what most of us call summer isn't the same as an Icelandic summer, I'd compare an Icelandic summer to a Swedish autumn... at best...

Let me try and clear up the confusion and collect discussion from this thread on the size of the install and this thread on the new graphics engine.
First of all, the November expansions, codenamed "Kali3", is not the DX10 upgrade, that will come later.
"Kali3" will contain a new graphics engine that now supports DX9 SM3 in addition to supporting DX8 as before.
There will be one client but two installs. The same graphics engine and the same game code will be in both installs, but different graphics content. The smaller install, codenamed "Classic", will only contain the DX8 graphics content while the full client will contain both DX8 and DX9 SM3 graphics content.
When we release "Kali3" then all Revelations II installs will be upgraded to the "Classic" install (15-30 MB patch). If the hardware is DX9 SM3 capable then you will be offered to download the new DX9 SM3 graphics content in the background (600-900 MB probably).

I think that depends on the country. In the UK the fiscal year runs from April to March give or take a week. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Wrangler, it would be great if you could answer if this Kali3 patch (however it is called officially) will bring any graphical improvements (specially in speed) to PCs, which donŠt support SM 3.0. |

It will not, you will have to buy a graphic card that supports sm3.0 or you will only be able to use teh old graphic engine.

no no no no, wait, they said there is till a new graphics engine for DX8, I've read it many times in the toehr thread.
it s old models but a dev kinda said it would improve the lag too...
ANSWER US!!! is the DX8 clinet getting any improvements to performance. not graphics or looks, but the way it runs. because it seems you have to download the new clinet to play. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

so, is the DX8 client getting any improvements to performance. not graphics or looks, but the way it runs. because it seems you have to download the new client to play. and by new I mean you need to oatch the classic version of eve. but I really hope it has some code changes.
I sure hope that the DX8 client at least has the new ship models, even if they aren't as shiny looking... like, since some ship designs are being totally changed, it would look kind of strange if the ships and stations were radically different between the two levels of graphics.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
This is actually the beginning of marketing if you think about it... The Vikings that discoverd Iceland came up with that name and saw that most didnt like going to a country called "ice" land.. so when they found the next land they called it "Greenland"-... go figure :P
By the the way the next land they discoverd is "Wine land"... that didnt take... its now something called USA... whatever that is :)
So yeah, you'll be using the new engine regardless. DX9/SM3 is needed for the new models/textures/etc.
