Taking into account that it should have enough CPU left to support at least 5-6 advanced labs, which tower would be most efficient in terms of defense against possible attackers.
Or with other words, which tower will be able to withstand the biggest fleet on its own, without any friendly ships to support it, and with comparatively the least CPU usage?
Faction structures can also be used.

Minmatar towers make the best deathstars and with large arty and those don't use any cpu.

None of the guns use CPU anymore.
A faction tower is going to be your best bet. It's pretty easy to terminate pos defences. Your best bet is to make it a very big challenge to take out. A faction tower with a compliment of hardeners will take a substantial amount of time for even a large group of BS to take out. ------------------------------------------------- **** Name ONE thing that your windows comp can do that my MAC cant

It'd completely break the will of those trying to 'siege' it into reinforced with Battleships before it reached half shields. ---

That's the way to go - it took a group of a dozen or so battleships several hours to get one of the unhardened Zzz towers down by 8%. Once you start adding hardeners, the cost in terms of man-hours becomes so high that it isn't worth bothering to take down a tower. For just 5 to 6 adv labs and rest defences either minmatar or amarr tower. Minmatar would be somewhat better as it would get bonuses to all it's guns while amarr one needs to mix gun types to do all four damage types.
And missiles take still cpu btw, but thats not so important now that you can anchor new guns while tower is reinforced. In case of empire POS siege all your weapon batteries would be disabled anyway before they go for the tower. In empire use only small guns. They are more annoying to disable (signature 30 and lock a lot faster).

excuse my newbyness but wasn't hi sec POSes like perfectly immune as the tower doesnt become a war target?
