By the way...why everyone has to buy a new keyboard when ccp could simply add a new button to right click menu?
wait so let me get this. You want CCP to creat an even bigger "lazy" button for mission running? why not just tell them to put an in game macro in? Some things in Eve require you to actually interact with the UI....learn how to do it. |

theres 2 more buttons i can assign on my mouse, but i have no idea which, any suggestions? atm i have 1 to activate/deactivate mwd/ab and 1 to reload all weapons.
I almost never ap so i think that would be pointless.
CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

don't suppose my mouse gives any advantage in eve then :(, it's hard coded for Shift for button 5 and Alt for button 4 (the side buttons) in WoW this works really well (and in other games) as you can Shift left click with just the mouse and Alt left click too :)

Originally by: Sgt Blade you can also buy a razer copperhead mouse and you can program in hotkeys which is a nice touch.
/me is doing that :-)
Anyway, another benefit of having 'groups' of weapons firing would be that there could be some optimisations in both networking and server processing. Atm (as far as I can see), each weapon is treated both with regard to networking and server processing as individual entities. If a weapon grouping were also on the server level, this could cut down on both networking and CPU usage.....

Originally by: Fara'a well what it takes to fire a weapon from, say, tank? load, aim, fire.. it's same in everything that can fire a bullet, more or less.. the heck you want? all those nice little things computer calculates for you? imagine how long would a fight take.. 'warps in, sees a target, calculates the distance, target velocity, direction it moves, loads ammo in guns, 1 to 5, calculates the guns tracking speed/target velocity, signature radius. fires gun 1. repeat all above. fire gun 2... get my drift?
I meant battle(and diplomacy, etc) as a whole, not just the "fire weapons" bit.
It's so...game'ish(yeah yeah, it's a game) that it has really little immersion.
Really hard to explain what i mean by "i want a more complicated system in place", but basically i think it's about...well...it doesn't require much "thought" to fly a ship
Yes yes, you can rabble all you want about "Well you haven't pvp'd" or "you noob know nothing of real battle!" etc etc...but the fact is, piloting a ship in EVE is, the largest part, yet the most simple part.
And i KNOW it's not possible 'cause it would cause a whine fest the size of a tirefire in texas, and it would change all this and that, but still...some "brains" would be nice. Or actual piloting skill needs.
Anything you do on a computer is "pressing buttons". When playing chess you only have to engage your arm, 2 fingers, and very little thought to move a piece, but this doesn't impact the brains necessary to play the game well.
Not sure what you mean by increasing the difficulty to fly ships. Maybe an example would help?
The fact is, skill comes in at when to press the buttons, not the action of pressing the buttons themselves.
Also MMOs are notorious for requiring little "actual skill". This all depends on your definition of "skill" though. Usually its the team with more members and members with more time/patience than their adversaries who win.

Edit: Making interaction with the UI more repetitive/obscure/difficult may make the game "harder" but generally in a way that makes people not want to play it.
I know what you mean, and it's true, making a game harder would alianate people. Though, EVE is known for it's "unfair and downright cruel" status
I guess, what i really want, is more options.
Shifting power between systems, between armor and weaponry, speed of ship, ability to compute (sorry for the star trek term) "evasive maneuver" patters that you can activate, linking weapons, modules to automate/freeing automation for more power...customizing UI accordingly to ship fitting.
You know, more stuff to do, more tactical elements, more abilities to alter the direction of the battle then just:
Captain: "repair" Crew: Ok... Captain: "Shoot" Crew: *yawn* Wha? Oh yeah...ok. Captain: ...repair? Crew: Sure, why not. Captain: ... Crew: The hull is breaking sir. Captain: ... Crew Captain? Captain: Oh sorry, was getting coffe, wha? *snap *****le pop*

Oh hell yes! Guess what everybody?
Using that wonderful macro program, I have made Eve better for myself.
tilde fires all guns ctrl-tilde runs shield booster 5 times, then shuts it off
And using scripted mouse clicks, I can control my drones! Alt-Q launches drones Alt-A attacks current target Alt-Z Returns them to drone bay
Friggen cool!

Well...tried to use autohotkey...but i failed completely to create a hotkey sequence (scripts doesnt like me). only managed to change one hotkey for the other.
Therefore...tried a different "sollution"
I set the following keys to fire my highslots (in sequence)
alt+z + alt+a + alt+x + alt+s + alt+c + alt+d + alt+q + alt+w
try it on your keyboard, is faster than pressin f1 to f8

Don't buy any new keyboard. In 45 minutes, you can write a script that can do everything that keyboard can do - and much more (mouse commands).

Cant you paste the script for autohotkey to set a single key to press f1 to f8 at the same time?
Talking about it...someone said macro...autokey is illegal?

I was thinking of posting the script I wrote, but I'm wondering if this automation is against any rules.
I hope not. Ccp is about to make drones controllable via hotkeys really soon anyway...
But in AutoHotkey, the script to make all guns fire is
$`:: sendinput {F1}{F2}{F3}{F4}{F5}{F6}{F7}{F8} return
I would post the drone control code too, but you have to have your overview set up a certain way for it to work, it would be a hassle for anyone who didn't write the code and didn't know what was going on.

The G keyboard thingy isn't illegal, as it's considered a "gaming tool", but using macro hotkey programs, etc outside programs that effect direct gameplay, are illegal.
So i'd be REALLY careful in using some program like that, i'm thinking it's not very "nice"

Ok then. Thank you for letting me know. I don't want to jeopardize my account over some silly gun-firing macro.

Well, it's not a matter of "do we believe it's a macro program or not", but more of a "CCP will hang you for using one" issue.
It's clear cut, CCP likes it, ok. CCP doesn't, hang.

Well, just sent them a petition asking about the program and because it helps only about hotkeys if we can use it. Also said that I didnt had the real opportuniy to use it (I really dont, just tested outside the station without shooting).
Lets see what they have to say about it.

If they don't like it, there's gonna be a bit o trouble in the future for the people who said they use it
Even if it's just "in station", asi si with all outside programs deemed illegal. If you say you use one, they have to make sure you don't use one in the future, after it's deemed naughty.

Rules are supposed to be flexibe, well at least this is one of the ways of thinking on the study of law. If the ccp devs are legalists, people who use autohotkey will be **cked up.
But if the stop to analise and comprehend that this program only helps to bypass a lack of EVE, they will allow its use like they allowed Teamspeak before.

Macro programs, of any sort, that claim to "improve" the game and what's lacking, are generally banned and hunted. So i wouldn't be suprised.

Teamspeak doesn't enhance the elements in the game.
A macro towards controlling the game does.
It's just a general ruleset that works and prevents abuse in the MMO scene in general. We all know the rules and obey by them, those who don't, get a boot.

Because this horse is as dead as disco, they've been over it a thousand times before. Stuff that lets you make keybinds, such as the G15 is cool, stuff that lets you automate gameplay, including mouse movement and clicks, such as Autohotkey, is not cool.
