Perfectly. Thank you for the input, I did not realize "Find Bargain" was a label representing the rest of the options. Perhaps display "Find Bargain" in italics? (I couldn't resist...)
Awesome program, things that would take hours take minutes now. |

Installed, and can't get it to work :( I've got plenty of exported files, in the default directory (also tried manually browsing to the directory). The status at the top just says "none detected".
Downloaded and installed EveMon which seems to work fine.
any ideas? thanks!

Well. None detected, just means that there are no immediate changes in the log folder (i.e. no added/deleted/modified files). You just have to click the "Load Marketlogs" button. Then select an item from the Items dropdown, then a region and then you should see a marketlog. Tell me if you still have problems. |

Edited by: Tako Yaki on 10/01/2009 16:56:49 Still not working. Pretty sure I followed the directions carefully.
Here's some info:
- OS - Win XP
- First joined eve - January 1st, 2009
- Eve version - 5.20.72263 (Quantum Rise)
Market log file names: Verge Vendor-Mexallon-2009.01.10 035242.txt Verge Vendor-Miner I-2009.01.10 061256.txt
I noticed there are alot of spaces in the log name. When I replaces the spaces with dashes I got a little further, but then received a message like "index was outside bounds of the array"
Hope this helps and thanks for replying!

Ok, it's working now. However it was a strange path to get there.
First I needed to create a bunch more marketlogs Then I deleted one (Miner I) while the app was running Then reloaded the log files.
Now it seems to work fine, even when I revert back to the 2 logs I was originally having problems with. Pretty weird!
Does EMS keep some state between sessions or something?

Yes that sounds strange. And no, EMS does not keep state on what logs you have. They are reread every time. I'm not quite sure it's an EMS bug, but if anyone else experiences this, then please report it here. |

I was about to report that Find Bargain doesn't work for me :)
You might also consider disabling the text-edit feature of that combo box as there really isn't anything to edit. Also allows the user to click anywhere on the box to open it as opposed to the dropdown arrow only.
Anyways, nice work and very much appreciated!

Version 1.2 is up!
v1.2.0 - Feature: Bargain finder is changed to "Find where to..." in an attempt to give more intuitive options. - Added: -1.0 is added to give full security filter range. - GUI Fix: Selection boxes are easier to read. - Fixed: Right-click context menu on table headers were broken - Fixed: Min quantity filter was off by 1. - Fixed: Bargain finder didn't take security and quantity filter properly into account.
Thanks to Trader Mags for the suggestions and constructive feedback
Tell me if you have any problems.

Before I download I had a question.
The market buy/sell price for any given item changes at any given moment. The market from hour to hour for any given item changes - we all understand this. How can an app that logs market info on X date and time be relevant 24hours later? In 24 hours that particular market for that particular item could have crashed in the meantime.
I am a perfectionist and check each region's market for item X everyday no matter what - I just log on my alt and dual monitor the info.
So really what benefit does this app provide other than a history log if it doesn't auto update for you.
I understand according to the description - if you export market details of a 'Raven' that you can view that info later. That's all well and good if you only have one account and need to recall some info while traveling across multiple regions, but what about someone who has a second account? And you can just write down the market details on notepad because you know in about 2 hours that market will change.
Guess I am trying to see how people use this app as it just seems as a simple logger that you would have to update every time - which could be tedious with little advantages. Not to knock your effort - as it seems this app has been successful and good luck to you.

Eve Market Scanner (EMS) is actually better the more accounts in different region you have. Because then you can easily export logs on several items and regions and quickly compare them. EMS even updates as you export the logs so they are readily available. EMS can filter by quantity and system security. So if you want to find the cheapest places to buy 6 Ravens in highsec, then EMS can show you. Provided the exports for the regions you want to compare. EMS does not provide a history as it always uses the latest export of any given item. EMS was meant as a way to quickly compare several (all if you want) regions without having to look at hard to read comma separated files. So by the time you have written 4 regional prices in notepad, an EMS user would have bought the cheapest item. So you are right. The market changes quickly.
There is more to it, but if you want to write it off before you have even tried it, then good luck to you too

I find this application really useful, but recently I have seen the way that Eve Metrics collects it's data and think that your Eve Market Scanner could be much better if you were to use a similar system.
Basically they are collecting the data by scraping it out of the Eve Cache instead of having to rely in the Eve Market logs. If your program could do the same then it would save me much painful mouse clicking to get the info I want.

I see that eve metrics have some sort of developer API, so i guess there is a possibility of using their data, although it might be a lot of work, and my time is very limited atm. Also, if I were to implement this, i'd like some confirmation from CCP that this is not in violation of the EULA! I do know that a lot of people like the "privacy" of EMS, but i agree that it would be nice to have the option to use eve metrics data. I would have to implement a proper item browser first (which sadly also increases the application size), so it might be a bit in the future. But please post some link to where the legality of Eve metrics is shown, and i will consider it. |

I didn't really mean for you to use Eve Metric's data, but rather you could pull the market info in the same way that they do, without having to create market logs for each item.
The Eve Metrics people have had it confirmed that it does not break the EULA. I'm sure a GM would cofirm that for you via a petition. |

Well, Emporia, The scraping is quite an involved process as you have to give it a lot of work to decipher the cache files, which the eve metrics guys also state in their thread. So this will not be an option for EMS as i simply don't have the time to put into it. But i actually like the idea of being able to choose between the public data from evemetrics or your own privately exported logs. So i might work towards that in the nearest future. As i have also been reassured enough that it is not an EULA violation. Thx for the tip. |

Status:
I am working on implementing a market browser tree on the left which marks the current marketlogs loaded. It should make it easier to reach specific items when you have many marketlogs loaded. This is also to facilitate the later implementation of optional eve-metrics data.
Please post any bug reports on the old version 1.2 if any. |

Another satisfied user here But there is something I'd like to point out in the program.
If I change the order and size of items in the column (i.e. Jumps, Quantity, Volume Entered, etc.), the changes are not saved and therefore it returns to the original state everytime I restart the program.
Is it intended to be that way, or is there something that I'm missing out?
PS. Let's see if I can make some donation from my escrows :P

This is the intended behavior so far. As it would be a bit boring to code But if it is a request from more people i will of course take a look at it. Order and shown columns would be the most reasonable to implement, as size is based on the size the app is running at, and is more dynamic. Tell me what you need. |

Supposedly this guy has developed the code to read from cache and he says he will send it to you if you're a developer. It would be nice if you contact him to include that feature. It would be nice too if you could confirm or deny that the code exists, since no one has seen it and lived to post acknowledging it here.
