I can't believe how ****y people get on the forums in times like this. A new player who didn't know better would think this kind of server trouble was a common occurence from reading all this *****ing going on.

Originally by: Dave White Good luck on getting it fixed. People should stop trying to blame CCP for this, they're not directly responsible because it's not like they've spilled their coffee over the server or something. Like Wrangler stated, they're getting sick of it as well and they're doing everything they can to fix it and prevent further crashes.
Actually they should send someone down to the server room with a mug of nice hot coffee (or even better coke) and pour it on to the array... then go running off to the CFO with an urgent request for a new array - when he asks why tell him its fubard beyond repair and show him the (hopefully) still smoking bits.... (just don't admit to the coke). Tell him the smoke is magic smoke which makes the chips work and when its release the hardware is dead.

Just for the record, no sense deceiving the newer people, it is a common occurance when they patch/update. Sometimes are better than others, but there is always problems right after a patch/update. ----------------------------------------------- I work alone, solo, because I do NOT trust people easily. Yes stuff happens and hardware faults are out of CCPs direct control... But the problem is the last 6 to 8 weeks a lot of 'stuff' has been happening.
I've been playing for over a year now (with different chars) and this is easily the worst fews weeks I ever seen.
I've had a series of connection and dis-connect problems ever since Rev 2. I never saw these before. Some days recently it's taken 5/6/7/8 attempts to login. I get the 'loading bulk data' sulk. I've cleared my cache, again and again. I tried using another machine. I get in then get thown out after 10/15 mins. I remember times, not that long ago, where I played for hours at a time without a single glitch.
CCP may not be to blame for all of the problems but they have to accept responsibility for all of the problems.

Actually that's incorrect. A number of exceptionally large companies run windows products in HA architectures. Although I will grant you that there is more software out there that is *nix based that supports HA solutions natively.

Haven't you ever heard of the immutable law of **** Happens?
TQ is a very, very complex piece of hardware. There are going to be faults from time to time. Has your PC never gone wrong?
Suck it up and do something else for a bit. Jeez.
Some of you people are making me lose what little faith I had left in humanity.
To CCP: Good luck with getting it running again, and my commiserations on the ****load of overtime you guys are going to have to be working.
First off. Do you even play eve? You may not think its annoying to play a online game wich keeps going offline, but most of the 20 k people online right now thinks so. And its not a mather of 60 pence a day thing, its a mather of a entire day wasted running the same mission over, and over and over again to raise standings with a faction.
Firstly. Of course I play Eve; usually everyday.
And yes of course it is annoying, but like I said, **** happens. Roll with it. It is not the end of the world. Despite all the screaming going on.
And perhaps you should find something more fun to do than running the same mission over and over and over again. Pirate for a bit perhaps?
Finally, we've had hiccups for a couple of days on and off. Think how much time you've been running those boring missions without there being a server problem. There, doesn't seem so bad in the grand scheme of things now, does it?

Ah, it's just like old times. Almost 4 years and nothing has changed, same old server crashes, same old grumbling on the forums. Only the names have changed, it's almost like I was never away :)
Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure? |

Ladies and gents, to amuse you during the downtime, I present:
EVE Crash Bingo!
Simply download the PDF above, print it out, pick one card, and follow the thread. You're not allowed to post the stuff on the card yourself to be able to cover a square, but anytime someone else (not playing) does, you get that square.
Who's gonna get the first BINGO?
Suggestions for more terms/words welcome, I'll maybe make more cards.

I am sure their own employees who are responsible for keeping the servers running are far more knowledgable about the Eve servers, how they work, and what problems they are having than any non CCP expert who's only experience with the servers is playing Eve.

Well, when you grow up and have to get a job and your parents don't pay for your stuff, you'll realize that while yes, it is a game, you still have to pay real life money to play it. And when you add up all that CCP makes on this game, it's real. When you have precious little time to play as it is, these things happening repeatedly become rather frustrating.
I do know what tech support is like, I support UNIX and Enterprise Storage in a large corporation. If we had problems of this frequency, we'd be looking for a new vendor, and probably a new support tech staff.

No need to show everyone how superior you are by "understanding" about "how this is nice that you give specific details as to the problem" to the "unwashed masses". I haven't worked in the computer industry for 13 yrs but when i see 4 out of 5 friends ready to explode because they play eve 8-10hs a week to unwind and when they do that they get disconnected, they end up doing the same mission over and over and over again because they cannot end it as the server keeps going back, and they also lose everything to a widely aknowledged server crash that "can't be proven cos our logs show nothing". WTF, when you have a server crash that is talked about on the forums and a death mail in the same minute the problem started, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that it might be more than just a coincidence.
It is a game, you can accept getting kicked in the nuts because the other guy is smarter, and you made a dumb choice. But when you pay 15$ a month to a company to get kicked in the nuts by it, then you are a bloody moron.
And remember, what the unwashed masses pay ends up in part in your wager. It's something you need to understand if you want to go from "the guy who can repair anything and there a million like him" to "the guy ordering the guy who can repair anything around".
I'm not neutral in RAGOON vs BOB, I just dislike both sides. :) |
