I've just been watching the weekends action and I've started to notice something.
Are the commentators watching the same match as everyone else?
"Oh it looks like that ship has no tank" - Yes, its nano'ed, have you not seen it ZOOOOOMING around like everyone else watching the match.
"I Dunno why they aren't focusing fire" - Err, cause the team has 5 maulus and 3 armour tanked ravens that are carrying damps... I think they're damped the other team and they are now using FoF's... just a guess...
It's getting a little irritating where the commentators seem to start chatting and miss 1/2 of whats actually going on in the match.
I don't want to rag too much. I think overall, it's been way better than last year, it would just be nice that the commentators notice that ships are nano'ed before the match actually ends.

Thread already underway
I brought this topic up a few days ago, it seems like it's getting a little response.
I'd like to hear from everybody on this, especially the commentators themselves.

I have watched every single match so far and overall all the commentators did very well considering the fact that commentating on a sport event isn't their real life occupation. You simply cannot expect professional commentating in the style of guys on Eurosport from people who don't do this on a regular basis.
My belief is that with time, EVE TV commentators will improve and gain valuable and necessary experience for commentating. They'll be best at the very end of the tournament.

To be perfectly frank, even the self proclaimed experts both here and on SHC can't figure out what exactly went wrong during some of the matches so let's cut some slack for the commentators who have to do it on the fly AND entertain the viewers at the same time.
A lot more people are watching these shows than just the hard core pvpers who can identify ship types and fitted weapons without mistake while yelling commands over TS and flying their ship all the same time.
Imho, for the average audience (i.e. the EVE players) these shows are pretty cool and enjoyable.

Some things they can't say as they've be aiding the enemy if they did, once the opposing team has found out what they need to do then it's fair of them to comment so all in all I think they're doing a good job of not blurting out weaknesses they've found to be relayed back into the game.

Did the experts from SHC happen to know what exactly went wrong with the HUN Reloaded vs Terra Incognita match?

I wasn't talking about that particular match Sir, we got pwned fair and square for all the world to see.
It is a matter of interpretation if it was due to Burn Eden's nberness or that we have a thorax fetish (see alliance logo and alliance ticker) but that discussion is rather offtopic here.

I doubt they can see much that isn't amply apparent to the teams who are actually fighting. Aside from the fitting specifics (which largely only affect other fittings, and so don't matter mid match), they can only comment on behaviour ("it looks like he's trying to speed tank them!") which anyone can see anyway.
I wouldn't want to see the commentators gimping their TV show on the off chance that it might help out one of the teams... ------

- You will notice some things other people don't. Other people will also notice some things you don't. - When you've got a headset on and you're calling something for thousands of people to hear, it might be a little distracting. - They might not be the uber best hardcore leet eve players, but they have been outside this year.
At least I assume they had to go outside to get to iceland. I wouldn't know. I haven't been outside this year.

Dammit, I hate it when I have to troll for the other side. But this is warranted.
To the op, get off your proverbial soapbox and slide back under the rock from which you crawled from.
The commentators are doing an excellent job. No one is perfect and yes some oddball strangeness may occur but that may be a result of something beyond their control so cut them some slack.
Just to recap the goodness for this morbid thread:
1. Broader diversity of commentators. 2. Angel is definitely an asset. No, not because she looks good (well she does, but that isn't the only point) but because she does know her stuff. 3. Trevedian is a possible 'Jerry Springer' episode waiting to happen, so it is much entertainment. 4. Stavros changed his pants. No longer a resident of the Cindy Lauper era. 5. Spiral is getting comfortable in front of the camera (well it is at least showing) 6. Verone is performing up to expectations. Not like Eve sets the bar any lower than perfection for anything. 7. Jamesw is a solide anchor to the team. 8. Oveur dances around pointed questions rather awkwardly (and that maybe due to language, not sure) so it makes it very interesting. 9. Ifni is being ifni which if he tried to be anything else just wouldn't be right. 10. It is still a blast to see this thing being run - what other game (exclude Korean games) run an official tournament like this.
Only comment would be to Stevie - girl you got to relax and get some life into your camera presence. Get a cool saying or something to liven things up. Steal something from Stavros, make fun of Spiral, just do something. Hey, you could put a leash on Trev and walk him around like a pet - oh wait, tinfoil hattery would errupt to epic proportions then so bad idea.

Before making statements such as the above, first think if that the subject was your mother, grandmother or great grandmother would you make the same comment? If answer = no then think of something else witty.

Personally I think my own knowledge of the game and more importantly setups and tactics far outstrips that of those commentating before during or after the matches.
However with that said i wouldnt make a good tv personality due to my sexy accent that no1 can understand and long pretty hair, so theyre welcome to take my place despite the fact i wouldnt giveup participating in the tournament to seduce you lot with my fuzzy charms. ___________________ "The Views & Opinions Expressed In This Post Represent Those of My Corporation & Alliance. I'm relaxed I promise!..I'm just being myself.. I don't need a catchphraze, I don't need to take my shirt off. And Trev needs no more encouragement then he has had already. Trust me, we've been living together now for a week.. I will get more playful however.. just easing into it slowly.. we know what happens otherwise ey? silly cowboy..

Anyhow, just some suggestions to consider. Well not the taking your shirt off suggestion, that was frug but what do you expect from an internet geek.
You should probably restate the living with Trev thing before people get the wrong idea. Poor guy has enough harassment coming down on his head as it is now.

This.
Look at any event where you have some knowledge, be it fotball/soccer, F1, shooting, whatever, and you will find this. If a commentator shuts up for more then 5 secs people will start complaining about not watching radio...ehh, hmm...whatever...
Anyway, it is a bloody hard skill to be able to keep jabbering on about something without saying something boardeline or to start talking about something else. Especially if you have to try to find something exciting about two teams at distance damperizing and ew-erizing each other ;) ----------------------

My problem wasn't with silence or anything like that, it was just getting a bit much when for 3-4 matches straight, it seemed like things were being called completely wrong.
I'd just like to reiterate, I think the comentry has been WAY better than last year, the guys have done a great job so far.
I'll shut up now...

Lol arnt you doing a computer engineering degree? But i guess wed all say silly things when pushed to talk for 15 mins with only a few angles of the fight to go on. I found it amusing when we were all running around in nano ishtars and the commentators thought we were using sentry drones with a heavy remote shield tank... But they still arnt doing that bad a job of it :)

You are one strange fellow. Me, I would never ask grandma to take her clothes off, but I sure would ask other, younger females. But whatever floats your boat man.
I still say I'd watch more if she'd take her shirt off.
