I have noticed in large fights as ships are dying and producing wrecks in grid, the game performance goes to crap. Can we have an option to not display wreck & can icons in the main screen?? I know you can turn these off on overview. It would be nice to turn them off completely.
If this issue has already been asked, please direct me to that thread. If we already have this option then please delete this thread. ..i.. |

This would indeed be nice.
I would personally use it to turn swarms of Giant Secure Container icons off.

i dont think so, coz they still need to be in space when u will loot them (if u win:D)
Maybe that isnt much of a problem now, that they are transparent and u can go through them.

This is a nice idea but it is simply not working that way. If you have the option to turn " showing wrecks in space" off, the data of the wrecks in space is still getting send to you`re PC. Even if you don`t see them on you`re screen. By turn them off that doesnt mean they arent there anymore and your PC is still processing the data of them. Same with effect`s on and off its a great misunderstanding that it reduce lag because the data is still beeing send to you`re PC. Would only help if CCP makes this part of the game client side not server side. But they will never do that because client side data cant be changed and so you get cheats in the game.

Abandoned drones also cause lag.
Blank protection, you are wrong, wrecks don't bump you anymore, so there's no reason to load them at all if you so choose too by setting your options so.
Abandoned drones should also be made to not bump, so we can turn them off too.
Not from just the overview, but from actually loading into our game memory in the first place.

if i can go ahead and not have to load fighters and drones as well that'd be nice.
also i don't want to have to load anything but battleships and interceptors

I fear the bytes, but you can't just turnoff anything you don't like, as those items will still have to load you.
So you can only turn off things that don't need to be loading you, like wrecks who don't bump you anymore, and abandoned drones/fighters.
At least, that's what sounds logical to me, who knows how Eve is coded

If it reduces lag then CCP should do it.

I'm not technically minded enough to know whether the claim Blank Protection makes is accurate or not, but if this proposal would help reduce grid-loading time and lag then it's pretty much a no-brainer to implement it.

Great idea, but unfortunately, impossible to implement. See, if the server HAS the data at all, it gets sent to you. What we need instead is a low-graphics/DX 8 option to turn off all of the fancy effects in the first place.
Run an old copy of Unreal Tournament(the original). I could so live with EVE looking like that. Perfectly playable.

If Old School Everquest could do chat filtering Eve can be set up to turn off certain aspects of the game from being drawn.

Signed for less lag all around.
And on the note of the Op having an option to not load or display any models at all would be nice. I'm now down to a very old video card and being able to turn on sprite only mode for fleets would be really nice.

For those who say that this is impossible because the server has to send the data to you, I ask "why?" The OP is asking, I believe, that an option that you not get this data sent to you in the first place if you don't want it. Unless you're either warping to a wreck or looting it, you don't interact with them (now that CCP's made them so that you don't get bumped by them). If you don't interact with them then what's the point in having their data sent to you? Or am I missing something? |

k, for all to know (most of ya have already done this), it helps reduce client side lag a lot if ya go to the graphics tab in the options and set color depth to 16-bit color instead of 24 bit. Can triple framerate in laggy situations from my exp.
Also, if this is implemented (if it can be), I want to be able to save and stone my video settings like we can with overview settings now. High video settings, saved as: EVE at best. Rock bottom settings, saved as: SNAFU fleet fights. ------ "A wise man once told me never to argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level, and then beat you with experience." |

Wasn't the topic of wrecks and lag brough up when the system was implemented.
I remember someone concerned with lag because wrecks persist after looting and unless you are salvaging will remain until they despawn. A Dev responded saying that there would be no additional performance issues because its just one object replicated many times which doesn't create any additional load on the engine.
However, when you warp to a grid and spend 30 seconds 'locked up' loading to see 10 ships and 200 wrecks, methinks this may not be the way things work in the real world.

My experiance is that wrecks murder your load times as well.

Actually I think an option to turn of utterly everything, have the game render nothing but blue and red squares and stuff would be good at this point.
And no, I'm actually not joking. If it means speeding up the client then sod the pretty graphics for a huge battle. I want actually be able to see whats going on. Pretty graphics are irrelevant after the first day or so of playing eve and frankly we all know what the ships look like. Having an arrow pointing in the ships facing would invalidate any need to actually "see" the ships.
