We all know, that CCP will not give integrated killboard inside game. why? They dont want to change this game into another arcade killing game :) So... Many entities in Eve are using Griefwatch killboards.
There is functionality to import/export kills from/to killboard.
Maybe it would be possible to create killboard/killboards to show accurate numbers?
For example:
a - create one killboard, where mails would be imported from alliances killboards. Feeded automatically. What alliances would need to do is give this one big killboard exports once a day or something.
b - Create one big killboard, where all people from all alliances could post their kills (no need to post losses as no one like to post losses)
c - functionality of creating killboards for special events like wars/sieges etc (for example last siege of bkg).
I am going for proposition 'b'. What would it require?
1. One domain with subdomains 2. One database with all killmails 3. Possibility to import kills from their own killboards 4. Unique key for kills so no duplicate kills will happen 5. Each entity (corp, alliance) would need to register. After registering each entity receives their own home page with current functionality (subdomain)
What this would give us? - Only one database will all kills - Accurate infos on what happened where etc (only kills posted, losses will be generated automatically from kills)
Possible problems? - Huge bandwidth - Huge amount of space needed FATAL EMPIRE COWALITION OF SOULS! |

If you remove peoples ability to complain about killbard innaccuraices and efficiency ratings then all thats left is the lag.
Besides killboard are not to be accurate they are meant to play to the owners ego, as can be seen from every KB in the game.

A nice idea in principle, but isn't the easiest solution by far the best? Force your members to post both kills and losses under penalty of muchos pilot & corp shame? -----

some people's ego wont let them bow to someone else in another alliance having control of their killboard.
and really there are some people you just dont want to work with.
a utopian killboard where everyone posts sounds nice... but really just not worth the extra grief involved.

Is there any reason you cant take raw mails from the bob killboard? As then if other corps didnt post the loss mail atleast the ceo has half a chance by getting it from your site. I only know you cant do this on bobs killboard, I assume there not the only one.

You are completely missing the point.
Even if everyone posts their kills and losses you will still get a horribly skewed view of a war when you look at just 1 KB. Certainly with now often 10+ alliances fighting on each side.

How about we go nitpicking onto IAC killboard as well for being Private?
BoB rejected the ability to rip raw mails after a site which is viewable when you go looking for the raw mail link, tried to rip every km off the bob board, eating all the bandwidth.
The only way to get killmails off the bob board is to be polite and ask one of their members for the killmail, or be a bob member to post/view mails.

Edited by: DirtySnipe on 03/09/2007 11:55:33 Good idea, am I missing something though, everyone would want to post their kills, ego, so people not posting losses would be a mute point because their loss would already be registered as someone elses kill???

exactly. thats the point. you post kills only. as there is only one db, then kill for someone will be loss for someone.
only kills would be posted, nothing else. FATAL EMPIRE COWALITION OF SOULS! |

Until there is a CCP Way of pulling kills directly from their DB (and the problems you mentioned are still in the way), I doubt it will happen.
IIRC, eve-kill.net is trying to be a global killboard. But it's bound like all the others to the accuracy of the other boards. ------ This sig space is Read-only ! omgalink - Online Skillsheet |

the reasons CCP is not doing it is because the killboard would always be down because of the load
all current alliance killboards can go down just when their own members rush to it, what do you think is going to happen to a universal killboard?
griefwatch is a horribly designed killboard anyway, so most big alliances wouldn't touch it

is the load caused by the data or people requesting said data?
Regardless if there was something ingame I cant imagine it would cause that much more lag... or am I totally wrong in saying that?

You could potentially offer a free service if enough people got involved.
Similar to the Eve-killboard/Griefwatch data exchange, though with trusted hosts and unique killmail identifiers. As long as the viewing load is spread evenly.

Well, the biggest problem would be that at the moment the boards are not that efficiently coded. It is possible to do one big kb though. As some might remember, at the beginning of August, BattleClinic took over the administration of Griefwatch. We also run eve-kb.com, which is a 'homebrew' board, but lacks a bit of functionality and jazz. However, it's a very efficient board and has stored a large amount of mails.
One of our long term goals is to tidy up the code of Griefwatch to make it more efficient and expand the features, but we have to be careful not to break stuff (and that includes killing the bandwidth, which is why the external export feeds are disabled for now). For suggestions, problems and other types of feedback you can always visit our forums at battleclinic.com.

CCP has commented on this before. I can't find the exact post, but it was something along the lines of "EVE is not Counter-Strike. If that's the case why do people get kill mails at all? Surely only loss mails should be sent to the person who was popped?
What would be nice is if they got around to removing kill & loss mails totally & made it part of a corp's API export. That way there would be no "misteriously" missing loss mails & truncating would never happen. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

The solution to all this is that every one of us needs to let CCP know that we want a CCP ran killboard.
Yes this would cost money. Yes this would use their bandwidth. Yes this would almost require a newhire to manage it day to day.
BUT
The single greatest thing is that it would allow us to see REAL, impartial data directly from the game. Without worrying about people's ego's allowing them to not post their losses.
I have a feeling it would have to be something that players can opt out of.
But then we'd at least see that PlayerXYZ is not letting his kills/losses be posted.
