Yesterday evening, following events in Tannolen, Electus Matari received the following message from Captain Scarlet of the Caldari Independent Navy Reserve:
Originally by: "Svetlana Scarlett" The Caldari Independent Navy Reserve demands a formal apology and 50M ISK in reparations for the blatantly unprovoked attack by Electus Matari vessels upon Reserve ships in the Tannolen system. There is no justification for such actions, especially when Reserve vessels were operating in support of official Caldari Navy operations, within State space.
Failure to make reparations to the Reserve in this matter will give CAIN no choice but to consider the use of force against Electus Matari operations in reprisal. Terms for the hand over of the necessary repayment and the formal apology can be discussed with any of our command staff.
Electus Matari would therefore like to tender the following apology:
We're sorry that you are getting charged 50M ISK for a couple of tech 1 cruisers with very... interesting... if inexpensive... fittings.
We're sorry that you've mistaken us for the Pend Insurance Company.
We're sorry that you saw fit to murder Dr Ullia Hnolku. We're sorry that this act detroyed the best hope of a permanent cure for Vitoc addiction, both for the people currently held under its yolk in slavery, and for those in freedom who continue to suffer its effects.
We're sorry that this action put you on our red lists for life.

You can treat this as flippantly as you like, Char. We wanted to give you a chance to resolve this peacefully, but it seems we can see once again that the Republic is not interested in peace, only revenge. Unfortunate. -- CAPT Svetlana Scarlet CAIN Chief of Diplomatic Staff

With the death of Dr Hnolku you yourself destroyed any hope for peace with many minmatar organisations. That cure was the only hope for countless minmatar citizens that still suffer from the blight that is Vitoc... --- My thoughts on Damps.

You kill innocent civilians, you pay the price. You kill an innocent scientist who worked towards freeing people from slavery, you pay the price.
If you are interested in making amends, you can show us by your actions that you aren't just a tool for an oppressive government. Your actions yesterday didn't point us to that direction, though.

Frankly, Ms. Scarlet, if I were in their place, I'd be shooting at you, too. If Dr. Hnolku was who it appears he was, and there seems to be no dispute on that matter, you shot down a Matari national hero whose work was little or no threat to the Caldari State. If there are nuances here, please feel free to explain them.
At base, of all the Empires, the Matari are the ones with whom the Caldari have the most in common. Both empires are rebels, both still cling tightly to their heritage and traditions in the face of those who seek to dictate our destinies, and each clings fast to one imperialist power in order to stave off another.
It is only political necessity that makes us enemies. Or, so it seems to be for the moment-- a few good attrocities and assassinations could change that handily. As fond as I am of certain CAIN pilots ...
... well, it doesn't appear that you deserve to win this, or to be left alone. Hopefully a bit of bloodletting can cool passions, rather than inspiring them to greater heights. And hopefully the Matari will restrict their well-earned revenge to CAIN.

Hnolku was a traitor of the Caldari State. That was why the dear doctor was shot down. Not because he had the cure for Vitoc, but because he broke the laws of the State. Next time someone comes over the recipe for a cure for Vitoc, I'd suggest that they do not break any laws while trying to get it into circulation.

It's funny ... a year or so ago, this would have seemed extremely important to me, Mr. Teravada. Now, it appears that the damage you've done is vastly more important than whether the doctor was properly loyal in his actions.
CAIN seems in need of a lesson in real politik (specifically, why facilitating relations with even an enemy power can be far more important than any single matter of principle or law). Happily, the Matari are evidently willing to provide it.

How dare CAIN strut around as if they're the masters of morality and the champions of some great cause while the nation they serve cowers like whipped dogs to their allies of (decreasing) convenience, the Amarr? The Caldari State have been nothing but pawns to the Amarr, with their own slightly different form of societal human rights abuse since they broke off from the Gallente Federation over illegal actions that they had taken against an agreement THEY were signatories to.
No Caldari is in any position whatsoever to be lecturing anyone about anything. ----- Mixed Metaphor is now recruiting! Contact me for details. |

It is unfortunate that attempts of diplomacy are returned with Mockery and insults. The use of the terrorist Hnolku as some excuse is laughable. Hnolku was declared a rogue by the State, and fled State territory with State property. His ôcureö was nothing but a weapon of death, which was proven later. Ushra Khan also claimed to possess the ôVitoc Cureö from the terrorist Hnolku û and yet even they must have realized that it wasnÆt a cure but a curse since nothing has ever came forth.
Electus Matari, you words might as well be written in blood. Perhaps in the future you will be so quick to insults.

I remember an incident like this between Delictum and EM.
You asked for an apology we gave you one. Aren't double standards fun.
Then again for the benefit of oustsiders it would be nice to know what these 'events' were which resulted in the loss of such a number of ships.

You need not waste your breath trying to reason with these heathens. They see anything as justified as long as it advances their pursuit of mayhem and violence. The fact Vitoc helps the Minmatar concentrate on their duty and keeps them "tame" and the fact they would have it taken away proves their intent is the encourage a race of lazy parasites who would feed of the good of others while embracing a life of wanton violence.
The Minmatar terrorists have no soul.

Slavery is a violation; it is an offence to what one would call a soul. It is an affront to humanity to treat a fellow human, an equal, as a piece of expendable trash to use and throw away. Vitoc is a tool of slavery. Thus, any right-thinking person - one who doesn't place themselves above others, one who respects the sanctity of all human existence - wouldn't condone its use, or hamper research against it.

I would like CAIN to appologize to Electus Matari for trying to bully them with idle threats and empty show of force.
You are a poor excuse for a Caldari, and open yourself up to bullyism yourself.
Beware if you tend to follow true on your threats, you will be fighting more then just some Matari Loyalists, and will be opening your flank.
tread carefully with your threats.

May I ask, Evanda Char, why it took you over two years to launch active reprisals for Dr. Hnolku's death? I will not suggest any unflattering ideas for now, since undoubtedly there is some perfectly good reason, but I really do find your timing rather curious.
Also, what's this new booster that's going around in pirate circles and turning them all into huffy Fedo moralists? First Verone gets outraged over mass killing and now Black Rabbits spew threats over bullying? Lord of Heavens, this world keeps getting more absurd every passing day.

I should just like to point out that if Electus Matari had not so effectively decimated your puny little force (Seriously, seven blackbirds in support of an official State operation? That was all you could muster? If I were you, I'd be cowering in utter embarrassment.), we would have.
If for no other reason than to vent our frustration over such a blatant abuse of our friendship by the BoF.
Rather unfulfilling, I know, but it would have been better than moving over 100 heavy ships into position 25 jumps from our base for no kills at all, which turned out to be the case.
Maybe next time, you'll at least make an effort at competence.
And I'll have to assume that 50 million to replace 7 blackbirds (which, it should be noted, can be insured for their full cost or more) is some sort of strange joke that only the mentally handicapped* can understand.
*No disrespect intended towards actual mentally handicapped people. I wouldn't want to be mentioned in the same sentence with CAIN either.

Ah, this was that operation.
I have no idea why anyone considers Torvil worth shedding blood over. His attempted revolution has failed, and his death appears at this point to be only a matter of time. Someone may eventually bring revolution to the Caldari State, but it won't be him. Even for the revolutionaries in our midst, I can't see any particular reason to waste additional resources and lives on him.
He failed. He took on what he thought was a corrupt State, rotten to the core and ready to fall; what he found was a State still strong and efficient enough to put down his rebellion in a matter of days. Depending, now, on outside assistance for his survival will merely serve to discredit him and mute any chance he might have had for martyrdom by suggesting that he truly was the pawn of powers from beyond Caldari space.
Torvil is of little use to any of you, now, alive or dead. He'll get a mention in the history books, I'm sure, but at this point it might as well be an epitaph. Of course, if he's still useable to bait people who continue to attach some significance to him ... well, I suppose that's something.
