I find cruisers and smaller ships to be much more enjoyable than the larger tanking vessles. I've gotten to the point I can handle most Level 2s in a frigate, but Level 3's are nigh impossible to take on solo.
I'm curious if anyone else out there has tried taking on Level 3's or 4's in a frigate gang?
If not, how would you approach it if you had a handful of people to take on a level 3 in frigates.
Don't tell me it isn't possible. Tell me how you'd try to do it.

I've done several lvl 3's in a Retribution, haven't tried any in a t1 frigate or gang, would be fun though

I can definitely see doing level threes in an assault ship, especially if its the right type for the rats. And I can definitely see level fours in a heavy assault ship. You could probably pyull off level 3s in a stealth bomber if you were smart about it. just don't get hit.
As for tech I frigs, I'd try either a speed-tanked rifter, balls to the walls and hope they're not missile users. or I'd try a durapunisher, which is iffy. Try for missions against Serps, they're pathetic and easily take out, so they're your best bet.

Assault ships can definitely be used for Level 3's...maybe some L4's.
Sometimes its not so great though. I was using my Enyo to help a buddy with Angel extravaganza. I was either too slow to chase the inties or too close to the respawn locations because I hd to get into blaster range. DPS wasn't bad though.
I agree, serps are mad-easy. They should use drones.

There's 1 l4 mission I can do in a t1 frigate... Cargo Delivery. Warp in, speed to the warehouse, withdraw the quafe, warp out as the npcs are into your armor already... (I use a punisher)
I've also done a lot of l2's in a t1 frigate.
I've done l3's in an AF once, but only a couple.
I've done a few l4's in a Zealot, but npc battlecruisers are killer... I'd say for that reason alone you must kite and use beams instead of pulse.

The easiest L3s are doable solo in a T1 frigate, so a gang should be ok for most of them. I guess some of the aggro rules have gotten more complex, but I'd think something like Punishers for drawing aggro, and Kestrels for doing damage, and then some Griffins or similar for cycling some remote repair.
I don't know if that'll work, but that's what I'd try if I had enough people.
That's assuming T1. If you're going AF, one AF set up right can do all of them. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I have done lvl 3 missions in a crusader before, you just have to be damned careful...
If I were to do lvl 4 with a dream group of ships;
Tank; 2 or 3 amarr assault ships with possible a rigged out gistii ab crusader or such, possibly malediction, with iskurs as remote drone reppers or heavy hitters and enyos and wolfs/jaguars to rip stuff to shreads... ----------------------------

I would Imagine a Hawk could handle a lvl 3 mission. especially with the boost in the upcoming patch. However you would need a Gistii A Type Small Shield Booster, top missile Skills and an Afterburner.
A Harpy could also do a fair bit of damage on lvl 3's however you would need to fit Rails for the extra range and again have a Gistii Fit. I use a Harpy on low sec Hacking sites and it can handle all the rats that spawn there which are not too dissimilar to lvl 3's

enyo for lvl 3s is a cake. so is ishkur or retribution.
u can also speed tank a lot of missions using a crow with a good afterburner (deadspace doesnt allow mwd). i did a lot of lvl 2s in my ares using 2 125mm rails and 2 standard launchers while flying at roughly 1500m/s with my ab and a rep for repping possible missle damage.

I'd exploit (pardon my Gallantean) the cr?pp? intelligence of the NPC pirates/drones, and start by sending in one ship from the gang, ideally one with a really good tank and good resists. Perhaps a Merlin. All the pirates and drones will then focus on that ship, and keep doing so even if the other ships in my gang warps or gates in 2-4 seconds later. These second-wave gang members can then focus on inflicting damage on the enemy. Once gang members start getting in trouble, they just warp out, wait for shield recharge, and get ready for a second go-around.
Not so much neat as an exploit, though. An exploit of poor AI.

I've done a few of the easier level 3's in a punisher. Those were vs Guristas, if you went up against Blood Raiders or Sanshas you could probably do more of em :) -------------- Poisoning the Chalice: Smartbombs as a Counter to Nos |

i did all my l2`s in a rifter/thrasher and then used my newly trained jaguar to mess about in l3`s with a passive sheild tank.
i agree its great fun, similar to ratting bs`s in 0.0 in frigs, but once you get to to l3 the time it takes is really gonna stop you doing it apart from occaisionally (for fun)
the rewards just dont justify the time (especially when ur jag hets webbed on mission by scramming frigs) and your 10 mill down :O)

I have used both Enyo and Ishkur to moderate effect against L3's. While it's certainly a rush to take on multiple Battlecruisers in a few of the wilder missions, from an ISK making point of view your BC of choice will fare far better. ---

lvl3 are definetly do-able in AF, though a bit slow and might be hard to break tank on some of the BS and HAC that appear in lvl3
probably doable to do lvl3 in cruisers with a good amount of SP and t2/best named stuff
