I consider this map -THE- standard due to its high coding quality. However, for an "open source" project, it surely lacks info. Just for fun, i spent some time looking at how it works, and i end up with a nice map, but on which TRI was in BoB's space, Invictus was in RA space, IRON in Goon space... funny as hell. Gave me a laugh, looking at the "what if".

hahhaa. Seriously, i'm keeping this gem. I'm just not going to link it here because it would surely trigger some trolling from people unhappy with the randomness of my bug. ;)
But i'll just stfu and laugh a bit more now, because i see Smash and CVA in Deklein.. heh.

It's linked in a thread that is already stickied. Go to the EVE Territorial Maps thread by ISD Serathu, scroll down to the second post, and this map and thread are linked in there. ---

Oh come now, won't you share it even a little bit? It actually shouldn't be doing that, so I'm curious what exactly it ended up drawing.

You are kidding right?
While the end result is great, and I will not dispute that, the current "architecture" would make a good article for dailyWTF.
I'll try to fix that though :)

Constructive criticism with a will to improve things usually gives better results than sugarcoating though. Well, not in all cases. It probably won't get you laid, but it will lead to better software!

oh, really? Even though i agree with you, notice how my remark about lack of documentation was ignored. Seems sugarcoating got replies, at least. You had a nice theory, though.
"software" and "laid" on the same sentence? Odd.. heh.

Verite, if you want to do something ala Josh's maps it shouldn't be too hard to add semi-transparent lined overlays and large colorful arrows on top of the power-bloc map. To be honest if I knew what info you wanted depicted exactly, I'd be glad to play with a copy and see if I can make something pretty. and doing a new one every 2-3 isn't too bad either.

Probably should wait until I finish refactoring this thing.

I think the blob sizes should be limited along some lines. i.e. stop the alliances at the edge from having their blobs expand into emptiness (it makes them look bigger than they are, it's a bit deceiving). Also, along the same line, maybe not letting blobs expand to regions they don't come from... Great map, best I've seen ;)

Update...
Done: 1. Api parsers, along with downloading... 2. Model classes with Hibernate ORM persistence mappings. 3. Service interface/implementation interface. 3a) API Parse service + implementation. 3b) DB Bulk update service + implementation. 4. Automatic database schema generation via hibernate. 5. Fully crossplatform and backend-independent solution (can use any RDBMS). 6. Spring IOC
TODO: 1. Main launcher class 2. XML Configuration support 3. Refactoring of the entire map generation method, as it's fugly right now to say the least. 4. EvE database dump import service along with implementation. 5. Add many-to-one relations to Hibernate ORM mapped javabeans.
Getting there, surely, but slowly. If anyone wants to help and wants source, drop me a line IG.

What i want to see if how the map would contour around empire space if all of 0.0 was owned by one entity. It would amusing to see if little pockets of influence would show up inside empire.
If any of the code monkeys could do this they would be awesome! :D

Yeah, I'm fixing it right now. There still seem to be a few kinks in the API, the lack of sov change is a result of the API throwing me stale data; a 12:30 query threw me data from 10:00, which is pre-downtime. I'm going to have to generate the map a bit later in the day until that gets worked out. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

Funny enough, I just finished doing that.
The corrected map for the 14th is up, using the new region names. Hopefully the API won't be causing any more problems from this point on. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

I had a bit of a suggestion here, notably on the "sphere of influence" portrayed in the map. Not sure if this has been suggested before, but would it be possible to put borders on how far out the sphere can go? You see GoonSwarm (detroid/Teneferis), MC (Period Basis), Tanis. (Jove) and Mostly Harmless (Drone Regions) all extend violently out into the nothingness of space. The space between regions is fine, I don't think there are any problems with this but where the map ends and in the direction where nothing more is: can a border be set up to stop the "influence" color from proceeding further? It just looks weird.

It is reflected. You're surrounded by more powerful entities with stations while you have none, hence you don't have enough influence to get a blob of your own. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

A lot of alliances that have sovereignty in 0.0 don't have an influence blob because, as the influence is currently calculated, they don't have enough in comparison to their neighbors. Notice that the other influence map (yay, we have two of them) looks slightly different because the influence is calculated differently. It's important to remember that these maps are not sovereignty maps. ---

We do have one station and sov over 4 cons in Perrigen Falls (20 systems in total):
