Edited by: Marie Sklodowska on 20/08/2007 08:10:37 very nice work indeed. Thank you for picking up this task.
The only thing that's confusing me is the little smidgen of BoB blue in the middle of nowhere (between MC and FIX space, and it's actually below the "Pool of Radiance"). How is this possible? :)
I guess there really is no stopping BoB, they run out of solar systems so begin to claim empty voids of space :P
..and IAC/FIX regions remind me of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling

I'm guessing because the map calculates influence, rather than simply sovereignty. BoB has so much influence that it overtakes that space even though there's actually nothing there. :-P ---

Exactly. While influence dissipates quickly over space, BoB's core systems have a ton of it. The capital of a constellation has 180 points of influence(for reference, a single system with sov 1 has 10) on top of the additive influence of all their neighboring holdings. The result is a lot of influence on the map, which rightly represents just how much control of the area they have. So that blob over no space is a result of their influence radiating a great deal outwards, only to have pockets inside of it where MC and FIX's influence is enough to keep BoB from being awarded their systems on the map, while they don't have enough influence to stop BoB from radiating out towards that blob. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

It's fine on my end. I even downloaded it again and opened it up in a normal text editor(instead of the MySQL Query Browser) and it's coming up as fine. No corruption, no odd characters. I'm not sure what's going on at your end. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Originally by: Verite Rendition A true animated map would probably require a combination of dark magic and Flash, so I'm guessing something like that isn't likely to happen. However someone could easily take the influence map and make an animated PNG, GIF, Divx, etc out of it to make a crude sov movie. It's been done before.
Easiest would be to setup a slideshow where its hosted to auto-generate from the contents of the map directory.

I've been saving influence maps from various days onto my computer. If I wasn't lazy, I could put them all into a slideshow and see how sovereignty has shifted over time. But I am lazy, so it won't happen. Nyah! ---

For when you get back from vacation, any chance you do can do something to fix my alliance being overwritten by DMC? They have a single system and its tagging it with their name, whereas we have a quarter sized piece of the map. DMC's name is written over ours, and it actually got worse today, you can't even see our alliance tag unless you happen to know it's supposed to be there. Great work despite our current situation though, by far the best looking map currently. ----------------

I wrote the Alliance name code in such a way that it basically finds any alliance blob and names it at the center of that blob, shifted down slightly.
I did do another version that alternated adjacent blob's names up and down a few pixels, but Verite said that while it fixed some overlaps, it made some new ones overlap. Basically, damned if you do, damned if you don't.
It would be easy to exclude the name of small blobs completely, but I really don't know if that's the best solution to the problem. Maybe for blobs only a few pixels in size it would be appropriate. That's upto Verite to decide though. =D
Specifically fixing any one title though, is out of the question. It is, and needs to remain, a fully automated process.

Well there was a dumb problem. I forgot to turn on my MySQL server before I left, so the map generator failed every day and moved on to the next thing. Unfortunately no MySQL means no old data, so I can't generate the missing maps at this moment. Things should be back to normal tomorrow assuming CCP doesn't make things too screwy with the patch. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Verite, for my map I worked out something to prevent alliance names overlapping (well, 99% of the time, it will not solve if a name is enclosed by a few others). Have a look for an example here.
If you want the how to's, contact me, unfortunately (as far as I can see by looking over paladin's code) it'll need some adjustments there to get the same results.

Actually I moved the map generator to a new box yesterday that will be on 24/7, so that MySQL problem won't be occurring again. The problem this time was that executables made with VC++ 2005 sometimes require a support package to be deployed, so the XML processing tools I wrote weren't run. That's fixed. Now my only outstanding issue is that sometimes EVE-Files is not letting me immediately upload a new influence map after deleting the old one, Chribba's looking in to the matter. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map: Keeping Down The Clone Business Since 2007AD |
