Now, not just being picky.. but why can we see things when we warp? If we're going faster than the speed of light then light should "bounce off" the warp tunnel and we should see nothing but black and a bit of warping whiteness lines things. Just a thought?

It would be really boring if you couldn't?
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

The speed of light = 299,792,458 m/s. You go a lot faster when going say 5.9AU in the game. The icelanders must know more than the rest of the world! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

no, if you read the story behind warping you will see that it actually speeds up the light that passes through the tunnel.. so basically you should either see just White. or everything alot brighter.

Where can I locate said story? If it does speed up light then yes, everything should be white. * * * *

White? Wouldn't it just be blue shifted? For that matter--blueshifted off the visible spectrum? The game does blueshift things in front of you and redshift things behind you if you look at the coloring of the tunnel. I don't think anything else would be much fun to look at.

Warp drives work by warping space/time. They produce very localised gravity fluctuations, kinda like folding a ribbon so that two point meet and then stepping onto the destination.
That 'warp speed' of 3/6/9 AU/s is relative. that is to say, if the space was not being bent, to traverse the same amount of space, you would need to be going at that speed.
This is also why you can warp through planets and see normally out of the warp bubble (not tunnel as stated before).

This experiment has been suggesting that we can achieve FTL speed... albeit with only a photon and in a highly favorable environment... but we're playing with the limit already ___

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 18/08/2007 03:48:35 You are not exceeding the speed of light. The entire point of a warp drive, however it works, is to bypass the speed limit.
Most warp drives work by, somehow, warping space or affecting the travel of your ship so that it isn't traveling in a simple straight line to its destination. For example, a warp drive might use quantum tunneling to get you to your destination, or the most commonly cited one, the Alcubierre drive, expands space behind you and contracts it in front of you, allowing you to "surf" on a wave of space considerably faster than light. However, locally, your ship never actually exceeds lightspeed.

let's just assume that the pod is rendering a 3D visual environment for our entertainment, eh?

CCP sort of got it right - you notice how the world in front of you goes slightly bluer while warping, and the world behind goes redder? that's an effect called red-shifting - the visual distortion of electromagnetic energy as you "catch up" to or "outrun" the wavelength.
Only problem is, warp speeds in EVE are such that visible light would blue-shift all the way up to UHF radio, and red-shift down to X-ray.
but you know what?
THIS IS A GAME
games are supposed to be A) unrealistic and B) fun. Fun can also include pretty. pretty at the expense of realism = cool.
so quit worrying about it. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

And that was 7 years ago too. They should have a even better understanding of it today. Personally I dont really believe in the word impossible. History has shown that 99% of what people have said was impossible has proved not to be.
I love the theory behind quantum physics (the lightweight version without the math). What if its accurate and there are lots of dimensions we dont even see? I think its very, very interesting. Human kind are only just starting to understand whats out there in my opinion.

Yeah, that would solve warping through the planets and other stuff. Was thinking about it too.

It is a well-known fact that darkness is faster then light.
