I've seen lots of fits where conflag is ignored and only the multifreq is used, any reason for this? |

Conflag has a 30% nerf on tracking and uses more cap, the crystals cost more and burn out 10X faster. Bad tradeoff in most conditions, regardless off the higher paper DPS and better thermal damage. morons- sting like a butterfly and-ápost like a bee. |

Yeah, it's not really worth using outside of lol-EFT fits.
Gleam on the other hand, now it's had it's -25% tracking penalty replaced by a +25% bonus, is actually useable with beams, but again, you still wouldn't choose it over Imp Navy MF unless you really need the tracking as the base damage is only 0.8 better. |

I beg to differ ... In my incursion legion I use conflag exclusively on targets below 20km (Optimal around 17k) in my fit. In that setup and purpose it works very nicely as you have enough tracking and the damage is very sweet on sanshas.
Obviously bigger guns with low tracking to begin with wont be benefitting as much.

An Incursion legion has 4 midslots to spend on tracking and webifiers. I don't think it's a standard use case... |

I used to carry both and constantly switch between them, now I just use conflag for pvp. The only pvp ship I have left that I still carry MF in is my ashimmu, and that's because it's primary use is popping frigates. The tracking matters there, pretty much all other times it's largely irrelevant. Prime example, BC or BS fleet. Anything I shoot will be webbed 5x over or more, scrambled and I'll be 5-6km away. Tracking is a non-issue, I could hit them with gigapulses. I can see it coming into play if doing a brawler frigate but I only know of one amarr brawler frigate and it uses rockets, not lasers. |

Correction: they burn out, in average, 4 times faster. (Faction crystals average 4k shots, T2 crystals average at 1k) |

If you have something well tackled or with a big fat sig, or if you're not trying to minimize incoming damage and can minimize your traversal, then use conflag. Otherwise, use INMF. You should be carrying both. I don't always post on the forums, but when I do, I post with my main. |

It's been my experience, on these forums, the people who are quick to throw around comments regarding "EFT" are usually the ones who have no grasp of the complex situational system of this game themselves. Projection, entry level psychology and all that...
The person you should listen to in this thread is Large Object who gave you the first reply. Look at what he's saying and then read between the lines.
Are there situations when lower tracking and a higher consumption are acceptable trade-offs for a higher raw damage output? There is no "or" to your question.
Most sensible people carry both types of lenses, they're not exclusive or expensive. |

I've had similar experiences regarding small/midsize BC and BS brawls in low sec. Judging by KM damage in some of 0.0 engagements I've been in, Conflag is highly effective there too, when combining Mega Pulses and web Loki's etc. |

- Conflag lasts about 1k shots. Imp multi last exactly 4k shots. - Conflag has a little higher damage in theory. A big part of that damage is thermal whereas Imp mult has more em damage. Since thermal resists tend to be lower than em resists in pvp, this means that conflag does more effective damage. - Conflag has higher cap use, this results in less damage than imp multi per cap. - Conflag has worse tracking
This means that conflag is better IF you have the extra cap IF you don't need normal tracking and IF you're willing to pay 4 times the price. Imperial multi is much more general applicable.
TL,DR: INMF is better apart from very specific circumstances. If you can't recognize those, don't use conflag. |

I carry both, except on ships where cap can be a serious problem (Shield Harbinger comes to mind). For Battleships, Conflag > MF generally as you're not aiming to hit frigates and primaries should be webbed down, assuming you're in a gang. Extra raw DPS is always good, plus more thermal damage -> better damage on T1 armor tanks. |

Conflagration is awesome. I don't care much anymore for multifreqs since the T2 ammo boost. Only used when tracking is an issue or making more space bucks (by spending less) when ratting. |
