Hi guys, I'm thinking of buying a few hulks for some 0.0 mining soon, but didn't want to buy just yet with the prices in free-fall (115m in Jita)! So here's my question to all those experts/builders/inventors out there ... at what level do you expect the prices to plateau? Cheers A.I.

I think they will still fall a bit further, but it seems to be talking a long time to drop much below the 115 mil level.

Haha, this thread is a great idea by a trader who's looking to reduce hulk demand. Nice!

I would expect a 105m minimum. Anything below that and inventors will be operating at a loss. Having said that, if the price on datacores falls considerably in those areas, we could see hulks at approx 95m but not much below that, as from memory the build cost on a negative researched bpc was approx 82m.

Everyone assumes inventors are smart. That goes against all evidence that a lot of players in EVE are anything but.
Just because you'd take a loss to invent and sell something doesn't mean people won't do it.

Mission runners with full wallets will make invention just to try it, and then they will sell at about any price that the market seems to indicate.
Any profit that they "lose" by not selling at a higher price is totally offset by the fact that they can make tens of millions on every level 4 mission.
So, if they are used to undercutting in order to sell fast, they will help bringing down the market.
EDIT: In case it wasn't clear, for those mission runners the invention costs are zero, since they are made for fun, so their "loss" price is the build cost of the BPCs. They calculate a higher "profit margin" that professional inventors, so they will tend to undercut way more.

Prices are well past the 'free fall' stage. They have been hovering around the 120m isk mark for a few weeks.
Selling Hulks is a pain just now, there is a lot of competition (and I don't even go near Jita!), so there is also the likelihood that inventors will move some of their efforts on to other things/ships that provide a return for less work.

Edited by: Jay Two on 02/08/2007 17:44:15 In the last couple of weeks, mech eng datacores and the decryptors haven't fallen at all (actually regaining some ground). So expect them to sit about where they are until there's some movement here again...
Since they take up to 2 days to build, and people invent them in lots of 5-10, you don't really start to see the effect of datacore prices falling for a couple of weeks.
I've stopped sending my supply anywhere near trade hubs as there isn't any profit in it, at least, not worth the effort. Selling them in more remote areas is still ok though, albeit slower.
I moved to Ishtars, but TBH they've started to feel the same pressures. I'm scratching my head and trying to run numbers on other ships to see if there's anything worth doing yet.... (16 failed brutix runs later ... grrr.)

I see datacore prices taking a looong time to adjust efficiently. I imagine they eventually will, but there's a lot of skill training and people apparently not noticing that they should change their research fields.

I think the prices will hover around 120 mil indefinately until the market saturates. Then it will depend on how many keep inventing.
