Hey,
I've noticed a worrying (for me) trend over the past few weeks in the number of Capital BPO sell off auctions.
Now I know this is a saturated market and that sometimes shifting a ship can prove difficult however I can only put the number of people quitting the market down to the following:
Current Server Stability Problems - Who wants to take a great big and expensive Cap Ship into battle when you are almost certain to either lose it due to lag and or the server becoming unresponsive and or desync issues which are (we can only hope) due to be fixed in the near future.
Lack of Capital Level 5 Missions -
At last count there are just 3 such missions for the solo / mission runner to play with. The rest are gang missions. Fact is that you are always going to have solo players who want to play the game and progress on their own. The missions for Capitals need to be increased by at leaast another 3.
Can anyone else tink of any other reason for the big rush to get out of the Capital market?
I know about the falling prices but the fact is this is a natural consequence of it being a saturated market due to the two reasons I have outlined above I can deal with that.
Cheers

Capital ships are NOT meant to be for the solo player which is why they require a person with a cyno to move so creating missions they can solo is defeating the point of them they should be so hard they need extra people imho, if you are a solo player then capitals really aren't for you and not all battles result in you losing the capital :) ---------

I'm sure once a long time ago people used to say the same thing when level 4 missions were rolled out (there meant to be gang missions too) however as people have trained up level 4 missions are quite easy now and so the solo player needs something else to aim for be that missions or whatever.
Just because a solo player wants to play the game by him or herself does not mean they should not be able to do so in a capital ship.
But give it a year and level 5 missions will be easy due skills being trained up
A super Capital yes I do agree with you will and should never be owned by a solo player (but no doubt in time) they will be.

It could also be that people are fed up with fighting POS wars, constantly trying to claim sovereignty over systems. They've gone back to regular gang/solo fights and don't want or see a need for, their cap ships any more.
I don't know if any of the examples are true, but the perception could be there among owners.
So perhaps several producers of cap ships have decided that the market isn't there for their goods and are liquidating their assets in order to buy T2 BPOs (or whatever) which they feel will bring a larger return from a higher demand.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Initially I thought all level 5's where going to allow capitals, sadly enough this doesnt turn out to be the case. Then again I'm not fussed as the same level 5's arent available with 0.0 factions either (which are the only missions I run).

The only people losing capitals on a big scale just now are the 0.0 alliances and they should really be building their own.
Mission runners don't lose ships very often. So even if there were a gazzilion missions that capitals could be used, after the initial rush there would be limited demand for them.
Also, its a nice goal for a small corp, there are plenty BPCs on the market for the components and the ships. And cause you can see the progress as the compenents accumulate in the corp hanger it provides good feedback to the members that things are progessing.
There has to be a shakeup in the ship building market the oversupply is huge. To make any decent profit you have to haul the minerals from 0.0 yourself otherwise you are looking at a profit of well below 10%.
Or the demand for ships could be increased. But I won't go there cause then I get flamed.

I think the major reason people are getting out of the capital business is the lack of excellent profits for the amount of work involved building them.

But why not? It would make some nice targets for pirate groups and something to put isk in for missionrunners. Would also make the capital ship market healthy. . you'll never jump alone

Another reason could be due to the recent changes in POS warfare. With assets outside the shields it can be dangerous to build at a POS. Also, the current wars raging might cause some people to forgo putting a POS up that will just become a target.
Does a Capital Ship Assenbly Array go inside or outside the shields now?

Pass.
I'm hoping I can ride out the current "depression" in the Capital Market.
I have losts of contract customers I build parts for so I'm fine for a while.
But trying to shift any built ships at the moment is like trying to get blood out of a stone
More missions I say god damn it!!
