IÆve picked this up from another website, so please be a little tolerant if it is short on detail.
After looking at the map, just off Junction 9 of the M25 there is a small place called Ashtead, which is home to an armed forces rehabilitation centre called Headley Court.
Headley Court to give it its correct title, but it caters for injured service personnel from all services.
Recently the SSAFA (The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) sought to purchase a local house that they intended to convert to provide residential units where familes of injured personel could stay and be close to their loved ones.
However, the local resident are none too please with this nad have lodged complaints including those listed in the following
Quote:
Increased traffic, Loss of privacy for neighbours In view of local feeling house residents would not feel part of community. Harm to quiet residential area. Burglars could cruise area pretending to be visitors. House would be soft target for terrorists. Constant turnover of new people. Noise from children playing in street. Noise in garden. Emotive references to injured relatives designed to cloud issues.
It appears that the lead website on this matter is http://www.36grayslane.co.uk
And the specific page dealing the issue is 36 Grays Lane Concerns
The local BBC News has picked up on the issue and their report can be found HERE.
There is a petition site. Government petition, which is currently approaching 30,000 signatures. It has acquired two and a half thousand signatures since I first came across the story last night.
If increased traffic is one of the concerns of the residents, then I think I know where I will be heading the next time IÆm on the M25 and need to take an unplanned break.
As far as IÆm concerned these damn NimbyÆs have got their heads stuck so far up their own arses that the must be licking their own tonsils.

They're right. We should stop that place being built for service families.
... and make sure they get a hostel for recently released serious offenders in it's place instead.
I've been around that area. Just down the road from there are some massive gated houses where they lock out anything from the outside world.
They've even put their own official looking signs up saying the road is for residents and access only. Is it ****! It's a (quiet) public road and I can see absolutely no legal reason I can't drive down it, on the odd occasion I've wanted to.
Nothing like supporting our boys is there?

Nothing sinister. S******dly are hosting their killboard on a secure sockets server. Maybe someone tried to hack them or they've got excessive paranoia. (Probably not a bad thing considering a) who they are and b) this is Eve)
However, OP, I'd recommend you host killboard images on a standard server as it's a real PITA with this certificate business popping up every time we load a page with you signature in it.

Whatever your thoughts on current conflicts and the political reasons behind them, let us never forget it is the soldier/service person who bears the brunt of those decisions.
I would ask anyone from the UK who reads this, that believes the following objections are not sufficient to stop this house being used for accomodation of injured service personel's families read th objection then go to the petition link posted below
Quote: Increased traffic, Loss of privacy for neighbours In view of local feeling house residents would not feel part of community. Harm to quiet residential area. Burglars could cruise area pretending to be visitors. House would be soft target for terrorists. Constant turnover of new people. Noise from children playing in street. Noise in garden. Emotive references to injured relatives designed to cloud issues.
(to read SSAFA responses to the objections go HERE)
go to Petition to UK government and sign.
Non UK people can make their feelings known HERE
Please also feel free to pass the links (copy the whole post if you wish) around any websites you feel their may be an interest in this issue, both in Eve community or outside it.
Thank You

Thanks for pointing this out, just signed it.
These ppl dont want the this in their doorsept, reminds me of Garrison towns in UK. Lots of pubs, shops ppl dont want the troops but if theres an emergency guess who they want brought in.
Personally I would move the proposed building elsewhere and instead build an Assylum Seekers holding centre. http://www.pixelopia.co.uk/files/signature.jpg |

The level of selfishness amoung the common person is just disgusting. These soldiers are getting blown up and shot at in some sweaty, dust filled ****hole because old Blair wanted to get chummy with Dubya, and when they go home to try and get their lives back on track, people like this spit in their faces and tell them to go somewhere else.
If I were the judge, I'd conscript every goddamn name on the petition to get this recovery centre blocked and force them to serve a tour in Afghanistan or Iraq. Maybe they'll sing a different toon when some field medic tosses their disembodied legs in their lap and carry them back to the field surgeon.

The complete and utter selfishness of some people completely and utterly disgusts me. I am unable to say in words how appauled I am that people would try and stop this and English is my first language!!
Signature removed due to lack of Eve-related content. -Ivan K Fair enough Ivan, sorry :( - Flash |
