Edited by: Andrue on 21/07/2007 17:46:32 <whine> I've tried 8 times to invent Scourge Fury missile BP. Okay so the first two attempts were at minimum skills but today I tried three times with Rocket Science and Caldari encyrption at L4. I used a T1 scourge as base item and a decryptor. I got two messages emplying I was close but would have to try again and one saying it was near hopeless.
Is there any point even trying again? If I was inventing a ship then multiple attempts is fair enough but for poxy ammo it's crazy. As I understand it I'm not even going to get a hundreds of thousands run BP.
I /thought/ Invention was supposed to allow most people to make their own T2 stuff and occasionally have enough left over to sell on the market. From what I can see I'd do better waiting for lottery..even though that's now over. </whine>
Okay so that's the whine over. Seriously - WTF am I doing wrong here? Is it supposed to be this hard just to get T2 ammo? Would I perhaps get something more akin to an infinite run BP that would at least make several dozen attempts per success worthwhile? -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Two small hints :
Make sure you have electronics engineering skill level fairly high as well Base items hardly have a benefit adding to the job - some people even think it has negative effect.
With that into account, you should be around 50 - 60% success rate range - also meaning your first bingo may be after 4, 5 or 10 tries. Perseverance lvl5 is also needed in this profession

No, I don't think invention was meant so people could build their own t2 stuff.
By virtue of the chance based system and the requitements, it is meant to encourage that you go into invention as a profession, as you will need to ride out the lows.
And thank god for that. At least its not another T1 market. The prices might act like it atm (t2 BPOs do not help in that regard), but once people have been burned enough just charging head first into it, then we might see a market were an invention professional can work and function.

devs have posted that the ammo and drone invention dosent work so well, the system didnt really take them into account but they have added it anyway.
Thier main aim is to remove the 100% reliance on T2 bpo's, and more then likly to give you the chance to invnet the T3 stuff when it comes out, which will most likly require an T2 bpc to run a further invention job on. <- (note this bit is just conjecture on what is likly to happen)

You can get long streaks of failures followed by long streaks of sucesses, as a result you kinda need to start Invention to sell and not just make your own t2 crap (or sell the BPO's to manufacturers if you dont want to makem yourself).
Best use for invention so far as i can determine is not simply to start inventing all the popular modules but instead see what t2 orrigionals are not represented in your area and invent those. THis way your not competing with orrigional t2 holders who can beat out your prices by quite a large margin.
Also unless you have R&D agents for most of the cores that you need (for ones you dont sell some that you do to buy them) the costs of buying them all is going to be so great that I'm confident saying your ALWAYSE be in the red, you'll save MUCH more money just buying your t2 modules from other inventers that have lvl 4 agents churning out datacores faster than they can use them as they can do it for much less of a cost.

Has this been tested? Im curious because Ive been having a hell of a time getting my invention jobs to succeed with maxed skills.

It all depends on the meta level of the base item. High meta level = big invention chance improve!

Explain meta level please, are you talking about the physical item or the BPC ---------

physical item you add to your invention job, unnamed T1 = meta level 0, considered to add very little or no success chance at all, through meta level 5 for best named mods like beta SPRs or local hull expanders
unfortunately, the invention which needs any help you can get the most (ships) doesn't have any meta >0 items ---------- KEEP TRY!!!

Its not like there is a lack of a sticky in this forum.
That question tells me you have not gone out of your way to gather information on this subject. Maybe its time to start.
